Chapter 2526

Author: Marina Vittori
"You're wrong, Tristan," Matthias said with a meaningful look.

He continued, "Sure, I've got the Moseys to back me, but I'm still far from securing the throne. Nathaniel's got strong backing too, and this won't be an easy win. But if you were to support me, I'd say my chances shoot up to 80%."

In his eyes, Tristan's support was worth more than the Ballard family.

If he could win Tristan over, his odds would jump from 60% to nearly 80%. The only question now was whether Tristan would be willing to shelve his own ambitions and place his bet on Matthias.

"You know me, Matthias. I've never been one for ambition or glory. This kind of power struggle just isn't for me. I hope you can understand that," Tristan said.

After thinking about it thoroughly, he finally turned his brother down. He knew his chances of winning were slim, yet he couldn't let go.

Tristan was the eldest legitimate son, the rightful and undisputed heir to the throne. Aside from his poor health, he had no real shortco

  • An Understated Dominance   Chapter 2651

When the Shardturtle's massive body surfaced, the sound of cracking ice exploded across the snowy plain like thunder. Murky lake water mixed with ice chunks erupted from below and froze into a steep ice slope along the shore. The ice covering its shell gave off a cold, blue-gray glow, with each raised plate looking like carefully carved ice rock. Its edges were sharp enough to slice through the air.Two crimson eyes swiveled around, scanning the panicked crowd on shore. When that gaze settled on Matthias, it held an almost human intelligence as it studied him with cold scrutiny."Fall back!" Neville roared, grabbing Matthias with his lone arm and dragging him backward.Having just survived the fight with the Brineclaw, Neville knew exactly how terrifying these deep-sea creatures could be. The Shardturtle before him was wider than the Surgebreaker's deck, with ice spikes hanging from its shell edges that were over ten feet long. It was clearly no ordinary beast. The soldiers pan

  • An Understated Dominance   Chapter 2650

A massive shard of ice slammed down beside the camp, shattering on impact. Flying splinters shot out like thrown daggers, cutting several soldiers and staining the snow crimson.Startled by the sudden chaos, the snow foxes retreated and disappeared into the depths of the snowy plain, and disappeared into the night.Rising to his feet, Matthias surveyed the wreckage around him with a heavy sense of dread pressing down on him. They had not only lost many soldiers that night, but the camp was also severely damaged. Their already scarce supplies were now in an even more desperate state. The next morning, the sky remained overcast, and the wind howled bitterly. The soldiers began clearing the camp, repairing tents, and treating their wounded comrades.Matthias led several elite soldiers to climb a nearby hill to get a better look at the island. Standing on the hilltop, he could see that the entire place was blanketed in thick ice and snow. Mountains in the distance were shrouded in mi

  • An Understated Dominance   Chapter 2649

The ice sculptures gleamed in the biting wind. The soldiers frozen inside had twisted, agonized faces, as if still telling the story of their pain before being trapped in ice.Matthias stared at them, and his Adam's apple bobbed as he suppressed the tremor in his chest. He rubbed his arm, which was still stiff where the white mist had touched him. The skin there showed a faint purple discoloration, and the cold seemed to have seeped deep into his bones."Your Highness, the freezing breath from that spiritual stag is incredibly lethal," Neville said, leaning on his sword. The wound on his lone arm split open again due to the cold. Blood seeped through the bandages and left bright red spots on the snow. He looked in the direction where the spiritual stag had disappeared, and his eyes were filled with apprehension. "We should focus on defending our camp and stop provoking the creatures on this island," he said.Matthias nodded in silence. The loss of several of his elite soldiers f

  • An Understated Dominance   Chapter 2648

Storm clouds still hung heavy over the Surgebreaker's sails when shards of ice rode the waves and struck the hull with a sharp crunch.Matthias held onto the rail, chilled by the sea wind, and stared ahead. The outline of an island had suddenly appeared on the horizon, and joy flickered in his eyes. After they had survived the Brineclaw's attack and struggled through the mist-shrouded depths, they had finally found Elysium Isle. But as their ship drew closer to shore, everyone was shocked. The island before them was nothing like the ancient manuscripts had described, with their promises of endless spring and white blossoms that never withered. Instead, it lay buried beneath a heavy sheet of ice. The land and sky blurred together in a single field of white. Even the wind carried a biting chill that stung like blades against the skin.Jagged rocks along the shore had turned into dark, bluish-black ice spires. Each wave that crashed against them froze solid on impact, leaving behind

  • An Understated Dominance   Chapter 2647

Nathaniel and his men waited for three days and three nights. The days and nights on Elysium Isle shifted at an unsettling speed. Blazing summer heat scorched them during the day, while snow fell from the sky at midnight. The soldiers took turns keeping watch outside the yard. They watched the morning glories on the fence bloom and wither repeatedly. The baskets of wild fruit inside the yard emptied and filled again. However, they never saw the child again, nor did they find any sign of the immortals. Some began whispering among themselves, claiming this was nothing but an empty island where the child was merely a spirit guardian. Others secretly threw stones into the grove, only to have them rebound off an invisible barrier, hitting their own heads and leaving bloody welts.Nathaniel hadn't spoken a word at all. Every morning, he would straighten his battle robes and stand respectfully before the closed gate. Then, he would sit on a stone with his eyes closed, as if certain someo

  • An Understated Dominance   Chapter 2646

Leander was sent flying, and for a heartbeat, everyone in the yard stood in stunned silence.Weapons slipped from soldiers' hands and clattered to the ground, and their eyes widened in terror. Many instinctively stepped back and bumped against the wooden fence, but no one dared look down.Nathaniel's sword gave a sharp, buzzing tremor. He tightened his grip on the hilt, holding it so hard that the red marks of his fingertips were left on the scabbard. The child's earlier punch had been nothing but a blur. The small, chubby fist seemed harmless, yet when it struck Leander's chest, it landed like a meteor.Nathaniel saw Leander's black armor cave in. He heard the sharp crack of ribs breaking, the grinding of bone scraping against bone."Captain Grimsby…" A guard trembled as he tried to step forward and help Leander, but he froze after only two steps.Leander, curled up beneath the fence, choked as black blood bubbled from his throat. Each breath was more ragged than the last, and
