Chapter 3

Author: Like a Dream
I didn’t love photography because I still had feelings for Regina.

The truth was that all my feelings for her had already died when I saw her suicide note in my last life.

It was only after I was reborn that I realized all my savings had already been spent on photography equipment.

I couldn’t resell it online. So, I picked it up myself.

In the end, I fell in love with it.

This time around, I wasn’t doing it to please anyone. I was doing it for myself.

I gave Regina another polite but distant refusal. “My hobby earns me more than enough. Thanks for your concern.”

Her expression tightened, anger flashing in her eyes.

“I’m offering you an opportunity. Don’t come crying to me later when you regret it!”

I stayed silent.

I didn’t bother to tell her that my photos were regularly published in national magazines and even top international journals. The royalties alone weren’t any less than her income.

However, if I said that, she’d probably just think I was bragging, especially since I was standing there in wrinkled pajamas.

It was all my son’s fault. He insisted I play in the sandbox with him, and when I turned around, he had run downstairs.

I didn’t have time to change before I rushed after him.

Just as I was thinking of leaving, the same waiter noticed something.

He pointed at my clothes.

“Balenciaga? Where’d you pick that up? Don’t tell me you’re a janitor here who stole it from a guest’s room?”

I frowned.

“Why can’t it be mine?”

Tyler let out a mocking laugh.

“Yours? Can you even afford it? What kind of rich person would run around looking like a slob?”

He pinched his nose theatrically. “Dirty, too. Probably didn’t even wash it before throwing it on.”

Regina’s brows knitted so tightly it looked like she might crush a fly between them.

“Daniel, look at yourself. Do you still want to argue?”

I ignored them and looked straight at the waiter.

“If you really think I stole something, then call the police.”

I knew he was only trying to curry favor with Tyler by stepping on me.

Sure enough, his arrogance deflated immediately. He muttered under his breath, “If it weren’t for some very important guests at the hotel tonight, I’d have already called the cops.”

Tyler’s eyes lit up, and he quickly cut in, “Important guests? You mean the Browns’ daughter, right? I heard she’s here with her family, staying at this hotel.”

Regina nodded, her eyes flashing with excitement.

“If our company’s project could get the Browns’ support, that would be incredible.”

The mention of the Browns was like pouring water on hot oil, stirring up conversation.

“Isn’t that why we all came tonight—hoping to meet Ms. Brown? Her family owns this entire building.”

“I heard she married young, in her early twenties, and already has kids. I wonder which family she married into.”

As people gossiped, the hotel manager suddenly rushed in, sweating and anxious, followed by a group of staff.

“Everyone, have you seen a seven-year-old boy? About this tall.” His eyes scanned the crowd with urgency as he wiped off his sweat.

The guests caught on quickly. With such a fuss, there was only one possibility.

“Could it be the Browns’ young master? I heard he just turned seven this year.”

The ballroom buzzed with excitement as people scrambled to help search.

After all, whoever found the boy might get the chance to connect with the Browns.

Even Regina and Tyler eagerly joined the search, leaving me alone.

I scanned the chaos, then walked calmly toward the dessert table.

Sure enough, my son was there, his face smeared with whipped cream.

I stretched out my hand.

“Come here.”

He jumped in fright, hugging the table leg tightly. “I don’t want to.”

I was about to pull him over when Tyler appeared out of nowhere, stepping between us with righteous indignation.

“Daniel, what are you doing?!

“Even if you want to cozy up to the Browns, you don’t take it out on a child!”

Regina hurried over, her eyes filled with disappointment.

“Daniel, I didn’t think you’d stoop this low, using a child just for money and connections.”

The waiter jumped at the chance to accuse me again, grabbing the manager.

“That’s the guy! He crashed the gala and even stole a guest’s clothes!”

The manager’s face darkened immediately. He waved the security forward.

“Arrest this thief and send him straight to the police! If he frightens the young master, none of you will keep your jobs!”

A triumphant glint flashed in Tyler’s eyes. He crouched down, smiling warmly at the Browns’ heir.

“Come here, little one. Uncle Tyler will protect you.”

My son ignored him, though.

Instead, under everyone’s stunned gaze, he carefully reached out and grabbed my hand.

“Daddy, I know I was wrong.”

After that day, Regina never bothered me again.Sadie, however, asked me about her a few times. She was always a little jealous, so I told her everything that had happened at the park. I thought that gala would be the last time I ever crossed paths with Regina. However, on a photography trip, I ran into her again. She was in a white dress and no makeup, looking just like she had back in college. The moment she saw me, she stood up.“Daniel, I knew you’d be here.”Her lips trembled, her eyes full of pain and turmoil. “You haven’t forgotten the past. You still love me, don’t you?”Instinctively, I stepped back, glancing around. Only then did I realize this was the park we used to hang out at. I’d just come here today because the lakeside made a good shooting location. I hadn’t expected Regina to show up.However, from the looks of it, she’d been waiting for me.I could feel a headache approaching. Why couldn’t she just let this go?“Regina, the past is over. I don’t know why you keep coming to me. “You want me to answer if I still love you? I’ve said countless times that I don’t. Why won’t you believe me?“Do you want me to say I do? Then what? I divorce

Those last five words hit Regina like a hammer, leaving her frozen in place. Tears welled in her eyes and rolled down her cheeks.“Daniel, have you really forgotten everything we had? I don’t believe it. We were together for so long. You loved me so much.”Sadie’s displeasure grew more obvious. She let out a cold laugh.“Wasn’t it only a month? Is that longer than the time we’ve been married?”I knew Regina was talking about our past life, the ten years I had stayed by her side. However, Sadie would never believe it, no matter how I explained it to her.I shook my head and cut Regina off.“I haven’t forgotten. I’ve just moved on and don’t care anymore. Since we chose different paths this time, the past doesn’t matter.”I repeated her own words back to her.“Regina, why cling to something that’s over? Between the two of us, it ended a long time ago.”Her eyes turned red instantly. I had no interest in continuing, and just as I was about to walk away, Sadie spoke up in a lazy

I twisted his ear and said coldly, “Did you forget what the dentist said? You’ve got cavities and you’re still sneaking sweets!”My son winced in pain, baring his teeth, and Tyler immediately jumped in to scold me.“If he wants to eat, let him eat! Who are you to boss him around?”I replied evenly, “I’m his father. Who else would have the right to stop him?”Only then did Tyler realize what my son had just called me. He froze, his eyes darting between the boy and me.I let go, and my son instantly clung to my side, trying to play cute.“Daddy, I only ate a little. I won’t get cavities again.”The cream on his face smeared all over my clothes. Disgusted, I pulled him off.“Just wait until your mom finds out. I’m not going to cover for you when she scolds you!”He was still at the stage of losing baby teeth. Since he loved sweets too much, he already had several cavities. Every time his teeth hurt, Sadie’s heart ached, but she could never resist his whining and always let him

I couldn’t understand why she had reacted so strongly.Wasn’t it normal to delete an ex’s contact after a breakup?Besides, I have someone at home who’s notoriously jealous. If she found out I still had my ex-girlfriend’s info, she’d give me hell for it.“Weren’t you the one who told me not to come looking for you ever again after we broke up?”Regina’s expression froze at my words. She looked like she wanted to say something, but stayed silent in the end.I added flatly, “And I don’t need your money either.”Her face darkened further. After being turned down again and again, her tone went cold.“Why are you still pretending? If you weren’t so pathetic right now, I wouldn’t even bother saying a word to you.”Tyler comforted her gently. “Regina, you’re just too kind. A guy like this isn’t worth your time. Look at him, all pathetic and hopeless. A complete loser!”His tone dripped with disdain, as if he’d forgotten that ten years ago, he was even worse. In our last life, Regina
