Chapter 2

Author: Spoiled Wolf
I frowned. "What do you mean?"

Amelia smiled brightly as she replied, "Oh, Dr. Kaiser saw this necklace back then and thought it suited me and bought it. But my neck is very slender, and the chain was a little too thick on me. It didn't fit right, so I asked him to return it."

This necklace had been a seventh-anniversary gift that Jayson gave me six months ago.

He had told me, "I was too busy looking at my students' graduation projects all day, but I managed to free up my time to pick out a necklace for you at the mall. I thought it suited you perfectly, so I bought it for you."

I had looked at the pink heart-shaped pendant on the necklace and teased him back then, saying, "I'm nearly 30 years old! Why are you still buying jewelry meant for young people for me?"

He just pressed a kiss to my forehead and said, "Because you'll always be the same young woman I fell in love with ten years ago.

"Alright, I'm going to make dinner for us now. Let's properly celebrate our seventh anniversary together with a home-cooked, candlelit dinner tonight."

My tears welled in my eyes again. I was certain that I looked quite a sight now. I tugged the necklace off at once and flung it to the ground. The pink heart pendant cracked.

Jayson frowned in displeasure. "You should just calm down. I forgot our anniversary back then and didn't have time to go back and get a present for you, so I just gave you the necklace. You'd already been wearing it for half a year. That means you liked it, didn't you?"

I completely lost it at that moment and splashed the iced coffee in his face.

"I wore it not because I liked it, but because you were the one who gave it to me! What have you been taking me for, Jayson Kaiser?"

But just as I said that, I felt a sudden sharp pain in my abdomen and fell back onto the seat. Then, a sticky hot cup of latte was poured all over my head.

"Mrs. Kaiser, I've always respected you, but how dare you throw coffee in Dr. Kaiser's face in public! Consider this your payback!"

Jayson comforted her at once. "Forget it, Amy. We're only meeting her today to get the signed divorce agreement from her. Don't make this any uglier."

Amelia carefully wiped off the coffee stains on his face. Then, Jayson held out his hand to me.

"Hand over the divorce agreement and stop wasting both of our time."

"I won't sign it," I said. "As long as I refuse to divorce you, Amelia Greene will forever be the other woman who can never see the light of day!"

Hearing that I refused to sign the agreement, Jayson flew into a rage.

"You're also cheating on me, Sherry Abbott! We'd be doing us both a favor by getting a divorce!"

I repeated, "I never cheated on you! It was April Fool's Day yesterday, and I thought you were just pulling my leg! That's the only reason why I said it back as a joke! The only person who ever betrayed this marriage is you, Jayson Kaiser!"

However, he replied, "You can say whatever you want, but I'm divorcing you nonetheless. Amelia just gave me her first time last night. She's not a slut like you. And I should be responsible for her because of that."

That line cut me right in the deepest of my wounds.

Ten years ago, I had been drugged by a group of hooligans. That night was the worst night of my life as I was repeatedly defiled and filmed by them in an empty warehouse.

I had only been 18 at that time.

Jayson had been the one who rushed in to save me with a team of police officers behind him. He was like a ray of light in the otherwise dark and dreary warehouse when he saved me and made sure that the disgusting video was deleted.

He had said, "Don't be afraid. This is nothing to be ashamed about. Just go along with the police officers to give your statement. They will make sure that justice is served. I'll keep you company all the way."

We used to be classmates, but now, we shared a secret and an unspoken bond. Eventually, we grew closer and even managed to enroll in the same college.

After we graduated, we married when we were 22 years old.

He was the one who told me that he didn't mind my past. But now, he was using that very past as a knife to stab deep into me.

The pain made it hard to breathe. I finally managed to gather my thoughts and asked him, "When did the affair start?"

He didn't even hesitate as he replied, "Yesterday marked exactly one year since then. Today is our 366th day together."

He remembered it so clearly.

"No," I told Jayson firmly. "Why didn't you think that something like this would happen the moment you blocked me and my number on every platform?"Jayson frowned harder. "Weren't you the one who blocked me?"He turned and saw Amelia walking out of the courthouse. He marched up to her at once and delivered her a tight slap across the face."You fucking bitch! How many times have you lied to me?"Amelia burst into tears and screamed, "Dr. Kaiser, I only lied to you because I loved you too much! I faked the medical records because I wanted to get pregnant with your baby during that time! I wanted you to get your divorce papers without a hitch! Everything I did was out of love for you!"Jayson laughed like he'd just lost his mind. He wanted nothing more than to punch himself to death for being such an idiot. He suddenly spun around and pulled me into his arms, begging fervently, "Sherry, please, we were together for ten years. Can't you please give me a chance to make things up to y

Jayson's clenched fists relaxed. He first glanced at me, then at Amelia. He shot another look at the defense attorney, then gritted his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut.Upon receiving the signal from Jayson, the defense attorney spoke up and said, "The plaintiff's evidence is extensive, but how can it be proven that the chat logs weren't fabricated?"I snorted coldly and produced the final stack of printed documents."Here, let me digress for a moment. Amelia, would you care to explain the reason for your hymenoplasty? Was it so that my then-husband would divorce me and therefore be available to take responsibility for your pregnancy?"Amelia's face darkened at once.Meanwhile, Jayson's eyes shot wide open as he stared incredulously at the papers in my hand. His eyes turned bloodshot as he furiously demanded an explanation from Amelia."You lied to me?""I never did!""Then how do you explain those documents?" he shot back, pointing at me shakily."S-She forged it all!"Rile

At exactly 8:00 am on the 8th of the following month, I arrived at the courthouse entrance right on time.Jayson was wearing a crisp white shirt, with Amelia standing on his right, dressed in a loose-fitting white maxi dress. He was momentarily stunned when he saw me, as though he hadn't expected me to be dressed so elegantly. He walked straight into the courthouse and spoke to me in a commanding tone, "Let's get the divorce done quickly."The moment I stepped into the building, tears involuntarily welled up in my eyes and rolled down my cheeks. The last time I'd done paperwork like this with him was seven years ago. At that time, Jayson had eagerly pulled me inside while exclaiming in excitement, "Sherry! Oh my god, Sherry, are we getting married for real? Are we really getting married?"Oh my god, I'm so happy! It still feels so unreal to me! Am I dreaming? Are you sure I'm not dreaming? Sherry!"Back then, I'd only just smiled and chuckled along happily with him, gently teasin

"What AI photos? What about smearing you?" Jayson shot back. "What the hell are you talking about?"I sneered coldly. "You saw the court summons, didn't you? Why are you still playing dumb with me?"Before I could continue, Jayson's phone rang. Amelia's saccharinely sweet voice appeared on the other end of the line."Dr. Kaiser… I… I feel really ill… Can you please send me to the hospital?"Jayson immediately abandoned me on the road and rushed back into the villa without another word. But before he left, he said, "Remember to drop the case against Amy. All she did was snap photos of you cheating on me. You'll never win the lawsuit against us."It wasn't until then that I was sure he still hadn't read the court summons after all.I gritted my teeth and got back onto my feet before painfully hobbling back into the villa and up the front porch steps. But before I'd even reached the door, I saw Jayson coming out, carrying a visibly distressed Amelia in his arms.He didn't even give

Once the observation period was over, I was discharged from the hospital and prepared to go back to the villa, pack my bags, and move out.But before I could even step through the door, I caught sight of our wedding portrait sitting outside at the curb, being discarded like it was trash.I felt a sharp pang in my heart when I saw Jayson's beaming smile in the photo. But still, things had changed, and our relationship was unsalvageable now. It was just as well that it was now being thrown out. After keying in the passcode to the lock and entering the villa, I heard the unmistakable, sordid, lewd sounds of a man and a woman panting in the bedroom.I glanced around the living room and saw that every photo of Jayson and me had already been removed. It was clear that he was in a great hurry to break every tie he had with me.As the filthy sounds continued playing in the background, I opened my suitcase and began packing my things. However, when I went to retrieve my parents' memorial p

I felt my heart lurch painfully. I quickly grabbed Jayson's shirt hem and tried to explain myself."I don't even know who this man is, Jayson!""I don't want to hear any of your bullshit," he replied, picking at his ear with his little finger before cutting me off with an irritated look. "You can refuse to sign the papers. I'll just take you to court. We'll end up wasting each other's time, but the outcome will still be the same in the end."The problem is that you're a pregnant woman now, and I don't think you can afford to drag this out. Don't you think so?"The cramping in my abdomen intensified, and my heart throbbed in pain. After a few seconds of silence, I said hoarsely, "You're right. I can't afford to drag it out."I ended up signing the papers. When he took the papers from me, he tossed me a bank card and said, "You kept me company for ten years, so here's five million dollars. That should be more than enough for you to spend in a lifetime."It was hilarious. I'd given
