The next morning, I had a quick bath but took my time picking something to wear. I ended up wearing a form-fitting black trouser and a denim jacket over a white T-shirt.
After taking one last look at my reflection in the mirror, I rushed outside to go have breakfast downstairs. A few maids, all werewolves, curtsied when I walked past them... Something I still hadn't gotten used to even after a month of getting here. Being the mate of the Alpha's son did have its perks. When I got downstairs, I met Dad having breakfast at the dining table alongside Orion's father, Alpha Michael, and his mother, Luna Laria. My father, who had a well-trimmed beard, was the first to notice my presence and raised his head. "Ah, Aria." A warm smile stretched across his face as his gaze softened. "Good morning, darling. How was your night?" I smiled sheepishly before responding. "Good morning, Dad. My night was..." I paused, remembering the embarrassing incident with Orion. Ugh, someone bury me right now! "...Good. My night was good." I turned to the Alpha and Luna and bowed slightly. "Good morning, Mr and Mrs Silver Moon." Alpha Michael was a huge dark-skinned man with peculiar clear blue eyes like Orion. He had a trimmed grey beard but his hair was black and left in a low-cut. As for his wife, Luna Laria, she had a smallish frame and looked to be in her early forties. She had curly black hair and clear blue eyes. "Good morning, Aria," Luna responded with a radiant smile, whereas Michael simply gave me a smile and an acknowledging nod. Just then, right on cue, Orion climbed down and almost immediately wrapped his arm around my neck before pecking me in the face. "Good morning, princess." He winked with a sly smirk before he finally sat beside me. My face heated up with a blush as I glanced at Dad. He pretended to be focused on his meal but still glanced at us occasionally. Eventually, Orion and I were done with breakfast and hurried out to get into his car. It was a white Ferrari without a roof. "Ready for another day in that hell hole called 'college'?" Orion asked me with a rather unenthusiastic sigh after getting into the car. I opened the front passenger seat door and got in before replying. "Yup. Just like every other day." He sniggered before starting the ignition and soon, we were off. . . . The University of New Orleans' College of Sciences was a bustling campus filled with the nauseating smell of teenagers and young adults. However, what the humans in this prestigious college didn't realize was that there were supernatural creatures among the populace. Werewolves, vampires, witches... The whole enchilada. But here, within the school grounds, every race intermingled. There was no separation between vampires and werewolves or witches and werewolves. After Orion and I jumped out of the car, I walked up to him and kissed him on the lips. However, as expected, he got too carried away and wrapped his arms around my waist. I had to control myself from doing anything stupid in public and gently shoved him away. The look on his face made me know he was disappointed, but he masked it behind a smile. "So... I'll see you during General Biology in twenty minutes?" I asked, fist-bumping him lightly on the shoulder. His gaze lingered on me for a few seconds too long before he finally shrugged. "Yeah, see ya." With that, we both went our separate ways to catch up with friends and stuff before the first lectures. While I was in my first year of college, Orion was a fourth-year senior. We only saw each other a few times during school hours, like during general lectures. I walked into the campus library building, expertly squeezing myself through the crowd of students of different castes. I scrolled through my phone aimlessly as I clutched my bag tightly behind my back. The library could get really crowded in the morning, as students came in to borrow or return books that they might need during lectures. However, I wasn't here for either of that. I paused close to a shelf, my eyes scanning through the faces there. Eventually, I found the face that I'd been on the lookout for. A smirk crept up my lips as I snuck toward her. She had her face buried in a book and had a pile stacked up close to her. She had light brown hair that flowed down the left side of her chest and wore a bohemian black dress that reached her knees and lacked shoulders. Meet my best friend, Elizabeth Stormborn. Or at least, that's what we called ourselves some time after I got here a month ago. She's also a first-year student like me, but unlike me, she was a massive bookworm of all genres... Fictional and non-fictional. She was currently seated alone at a table as other students merely walked around grabbing the books they needed before walking out to attend lectures or do other stuff. Finally, I got to the table and was about to scare her from behind. However, as always, she spoke before I could do anything. "Nice try. I almost didn't sense you coming this time." After saying that, she slowly turned to face me with a smug smile. I rolled my eyes before sitting close to her. "Show off." We giggled softly until she tapped me on the shoulder. "So, any update on you and Orion?" Her tone sounded suggestive, causing my face to heat up with embarrassment. As my best friend, Elizabeth knew a lot about my love life. She also knew about my hesitation to... Have sex with Orion, even though he was my mate. We were literally fated for each other, that's how it works! "Gosh, girl." Elizabeth shook her head in disbelief when she noticed my silence. "Why does this keep happening? I seriously don't get the big deal... You're obviously into him, aren't you?" 'Into him ' was an understatement. We were mates... I couldn't stress that enough. However, I had five wolves inside me and only one of them was mated to Orion. The others were almost completely uninterested, making it hard to navigate my feelings. How do I go about having sex with him if there was a chance my other wolves would gag within me whenever he got too close? I sighed before getting up. "Can we forget about Orion for a second? I forgot to check out something for the lab project later this week." Not waiting for Elizabeth's— Liz for short— response, I walked toward a nearby shelf for sciences. My fingers trailed the books on the shelf as my eyes tried searching for the book. When I was about to give up my search, however, I saw it in the hands of someone in front of me. "Excuse me, can I check something real quick?" I asked meekly, but my heart lurched, and my stomach danced when the person turned to face me. Those eyes…ARIA ****Sylvain Blackthorn had some serious guts, I'd give him that! I can't believe I confronted him in PUBLIC and then let him drive me home only to listen to him whine about another girl. Worst of all, now I had a better understanding of his beef with Sir Nikolaus. The dude was pure evil! And what the heck was Ravenna doing in his house? I'd always suspected their relationship but he'd assured me nothing was going on between them beyond the platonic. If that was the case, what secrets did he have to share with her that he had to resort to telepathy to do so? "If he wasn't so sneaky, maybe I wouldn't be so suspicious of him." I scoffed as I walked home. Yup... Sylvain had watched me storm out of his house in anger and did nothing. And now I had to walk back home and it looked like it was about to rain too. The clouds were dark and everyone on the road seemed to be in a hurry. Suddenly, my nightshade wolf spoke up with her usual soulless and melancholic voice in my head. "D
"This better be good, Ravenna," I grumbled, turning my gaze away from the door and heading to the kitchen. The sound of her stiletto heels clicking on the floor echoed around the room as she followed behind me. "Well, Sylvain. It depends on your definition of 'good'." She remarked, chuckling with a teasing tone.I paused, swerving my head to her, my expression blank. That was enough to tell her I wasn't in the mood for her antics, causing her to sigh. "Nikolaus got away. I lost track of him." She muttered with an embarrassed tone.Ravenna was known as one of the best vampire trackers in our coven. Back in London, when there was a rampant issue of vampires from Lord Darius's line turning people carelessly, she'd been of great help fishing them out. But unfortunately, Nikolaus's hiding skills far outmatched her tracking skills, not to mention he was more powerful than her. Anyway, I brought out a bottle of Bloody Mary from a cabinet and poured myself a glass. I gulped it all, breat
I stared at Aria in surprise at first before I asked hesitantly. "Why? Do you need something there, or...""Seriously, Sylvain?" She threw her hands in frustration. "For Christ's sake, you're my boyfriend! I haven't been to your place and barely know anything about you ever since we started dating."Dating? Was I sure I'd like to call what I had with her "dating"?“Never mind." She sighed. "I guess I'll–""Wait!" I called her back before she could step out of the car. She glanced at me, arching an eyebrow. "I'll take you to my place, then. But does your father know?"She blinked with what seemed like a surprised look at first before shrugging. "I'm an adult. I'm sure he'll be cool if I go somewhere else other than school and this boring house." I glanced hesitantly at the Alpha's mansion, which loomed like a mountain beside us. With a shrug, I started the ignition and drove to my house. Once we got there and stepped out of the car, I suddenly got a telepathic message from Ravenna.
I watched Maria's facial expression change from surprise to excitement within a couple of seconds as a warm smile spread on her face. "S– Sir Sylvain." She bowed slightly, still managing to keep her gaze on me. "It's so nice seeing you again." I smiled politely. "The feeling is mutual, Maria. I'm glad to see you're doing okay after that unsightly incident earlier today." Her smile widened, and she just stood there staring, neither moving nor speaking. However, she flinched when Ravenna cleared her throat. "Uh, our drinks please." She waved at Maria with a teasing tone, occasionally glancing at me as she leaned forward to grab the drinks. Now why was she giving me that look? Maria gave an awkward smile and dropped the drinks. She was about to walk away when Nikolaus suddenly called her back. "So, you're the niece Dorothy was talking about?" He asked with a curious gaze. I knew that look all too well. Nikolaus was shameless when it came to his pursuit of women. Every
FLASHBACK 1816, England. On a cold winter night, on the roads of England, Nikolaus, Ravenna, and I walked through the streets like we owned the place. In a way, we did. Vampire supremacy in this part of Europe was unlike any other part of the world. No other supernatural races dared challenge our authority and allowed us to do our business in peace. Not even the resident werewolf pack stood a chance.Anyway, the three of us stepped into a nearby tavern and immediately got welcomed by the stench of rum and the sweaty bodies of tens of men, all drinking and laughing like there was no tomorrow. With the drought going around the country and most of Europe, it was a surprise that these people could still be so merry."Bartender," Nikolaus walked straight to the counter where a female bartender stood. "Get us your finest cups of... The usual."The female bartender raised her head the second those words came out of Nikolaus's mouth. The 'usual' he was talking about was nothing other than
SYLVAIN ****As I walked toward my car on campus grounds, I kept getting bombarded with messages from Aria. I tried my best to ignore them, opening the car door and stepping in. However, before I could start the ignition, I raised my head and was shocked to see Aria sprinting toward the pickup zone."Sylvain! Sylvain, wait." Her voice was filled with desperation as she ran toward me, ignoring the curious stares she got from onlookers.I gritted my teeth, torn on what to do. As much as I wanted nothing more than to step out of this car and embrace Aria, this was for her own good. Not only was I getting too attached, but I was getting overly emotional. A vampire unable to control his emotions was a time bomb waiting to explode.Closing my eyes and diverting my gaze from Aria, I started the car and was about to drive off. Suddenly, I heard a bump on the car, forcing me to raise my head only to see Aria already standing in front of the car, using her hands to hold it from moving forwar
