CHARLOTTE'S POV

The morning sunlight filtered through the wide windows, throwing golden streaks across the sheets. I sat at the dining table with a plate in front of me, untouched eggs cooling as I pushed them around with my fork.

“You’ve barely eaten anything,” Aiden said, his eyes lifting briefly from his phone. His voice was calm, but there was that underlying sharpness like a blade hidden beneath silk.

“I’m just not hungry,” I murmured, forcing a smile.

“Eat, Charlotte. You need your strength.”

It sounded less like care and more like a command, and for a moment I froze. He didn’t even look up again, his focus already back on whatever numbers or emails filled his screen.

I took a bite just to appease him. He finally rose, straightened his tie, and leaned down to brush his lips against my cheek. The gesture was soft, but fleeting, like a performance he remembered to act out.

“Don’t wait for me,” he said. “I’m going to work. I have a meeting, and the meeting might run late.”

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER NINETY-NINE: Haunted in the Flesh

AIDEN’S POVThe drive back to the hotel felt endless.Chicago’s skyline shimmered through the windshield, a blur of white and gold, but I wasn’t really seeing it.My knuckles were white on the steering wheel because of how tightly I was holding it. Every few seconds, I caught myself gripping the wheel tighter. She’s alive. Those two words hit like a drumbeat in my head. Each time I blinked, I saw her face. Alana. The ghost I’d buried, the woman I mourned, the woman whose death I was blamed for. I had held a funeral for her.I had thrown a rose onto her coffin.I had listened to her mother scream at me that I destroyed her daughter.I had believed her.And now… she was walking around Chicago like death was an inconvenience. Like death was a jacket you wear, and once you are tired you drop it off.The traffic light turned red. I stopped, but my pulse didn’t. It took the sound of a horn from a car behind me to make me move. I pressed the accelerator hard, almost like I could outrun my

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER NINETY-EIGHT: The Ghost Who Lived

AIDEN’S POVThe cold Chicago air bit against my skin the moment I stepped out of the private jet.Even through the tailored coat, the wind felt like punishment, sharp, deliberate, and deserved.I hadn’t slept. Not since the call from Theodore Rondolf. His words kept echoing through my head.I’ll take everything that matters most to you.Charlotte.Every breath I took since then had felt heavier. The only reason I was even standing here was because I couldn’t face her with all the guilt burning inside me.Guilt for lying. Guilt for hiding things.Guilt for the man I’d become while trying to protect her.Marcus’s voice came through my earpiece.“Sir, the car’s ready. The officer’s address is confirmed.”“Good.” My voice came out hoarse. I cleared my throat. “Let’s finish this.”The drive was quiet. Chicago’s skyline blurred through the tinted glass. My thoughts drifted to Charlotte’s soft voice, to the way she’d looked at me when I promised her I’d fix things. She believed in me complet

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER NINETY-SEVEN: When Secrets Stir

CHARLOTTE’S POVThe house felt quieter than usual this morning. My heartbeat sounded louder than the ticking of the clock on the hallway wall, and that was saying something, because my heart hadn’t stopped racing since Aiden told me he’d be leaving for Chicago. Two days had passed since that terrifying phone call from Theodore Rondolf, the man who said he’d take everything from Aiden. I still remember the look on Aiden’s face after he hung up that night, not fear exactly, but something close. It wasn’t often that I saw my husband look humanly shaken.Since then, he’d doubled security around the mansion. Guards patrolled every exit, cameras were upgraded, and he barely let me move from one room to another without letting someone know. At first, it annoyed me, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t control. It was fear, fear of losing me, and now he was leaving.I sat up in bed and rubbed my eyes, the sheets cool beside me. He’d already showered; I could smell his cologne strong and expensive

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER NINETY-SIX: When The Devil Calls

CHARLOTTE’S POVIt was morning, and I didn't even realize it was time, not until the sun's brightness touched the edge of my pillow. I slept late yesterday because I was waiting for Aiden to get home. I turned lazily, half-awake, and half-tired to the left. The other side of the bed was warm but empty. Aiden must have come home late and crawled in beside me while I was asleep. The faint scent of his cologne still lingered on the sheets, dark wood, and safety. I searched for him with my eyes around the room, and I heard the shower running. I knew he was home today. Maybe he is not going to work today to make up for not having dinner with me, or maybe he just wants to rest.I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes. The clock read 8:47 a.m. I stretched, trying to shake off the heaviness from last night. No texts. No missed calls. Nothing unusual. Maybe today will finally be normal. When I stepped into the hallway, I could hear laughter from downstairs, Elsie and Lila’s voices echoing all over

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER NINETY-FIVE: When Love Turns To War

AIDEN’S POVThe sun was up, but it felt like the world hadn’t woken.Maybe because I hadn’t slept.Charlotte’s scent still clung to my shirt, soft, sweet, calm, but everything in my life wasn’t.She’d fallen asleep in my arms last night, and I’d held her like she’d disappear if I let go.I didn't want her to be alone all through the night. I wanted her close to me. So I could hold her and console her.Maybe because I needed my wife close or maybe it's for her.She told me everything. Her mother, Barry, lies, and their betrayal. And I could still hear her voice breaking when she said, “I don’t even know who I am anymore.”I’d promised her I’d fix it.Now I was about to keep that promise, in my own little way.I got up and got ready for work. I checked the time. It was already past 6 am. I got dressed and I walked to where Charlotte was still sleeping. I kissed her forehead and she woke up.“Aiden…” I so much love the way my name sounded so sweet from her lips.“Shhhhhh. Just go bark to

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER NINETY-FOUR: Broken Threads

CHARLOTTE’S POVIt was already past noon when I finally opened my eyes. The morning had slipped by without me noticing it, swallowed by the silence that hung over my room like a heavy fog. My head ached, my eyes were swollen from crying all night, and my heart felt like it had been wrung dry.Aiden hadn’t called. Not a text, not even a voice note. For hours, I’d sat by the window waiting for my phone to light up, replaying every word from last night’s conversation in my head, the secrets Barry had spilled, the betrayal buried deep in my family’s past. I still couldn’t process it all. My mother. My stepfather. My biological father. The lies that had shaped my entire life.At my age, I don't have a single clue who my biological father is.I should have reported them. I could have. But something in me hesitated, maybe the part that still couldn’t accept that my own mother could be capable of such darkness.I sighed and wiped my face with my trembling hand, glancing at the clock on the
