Chapter Sixteen

In no time, Cassie arrived at her mom's hospital, feeling a sense of betrayal and loneliness weighing heavily on her mind. With her mother being her only solace, various thoughts raced through her mind as she entered the hospital grounds.

Seeing her mother peacefully sleeping, Cassie's expression softened with emotion as she approached. The nurses kindly excused themselves to give Cassie some privacy with her mother.

"Hey, Mom, how are you doing?" she asked, her voice filled with emotion as she tightly held her mother's hand, her face reflecting a mixture of love, concern, and hope.

As her mom's eyes flickered open, Cassie's face lit up with excitement. "How are you, sweetheart?" her mom asked, her voice filled with tenderness despite the effort it took to speak. Cassie's heart swelled with relief and love as she supported her mom, who struggled to sit upright, determination etched on her features.
