Chapter 4

Diablo:

“I’ll go and find her.” I said, walking toward the dressing rooms where I saw her heading.

“Diablo, I don’t think that it is a good…”

“I don’t need your lecturing, Maria.” I said, stopping my sister. “For all I could care, you can go and tend to our guests. I’ll go and get her. You know, she has been announced as my wife. The least that I could do is call her out myself.”

Maria didn’t say a word to respond but I could see her annoyance in her eyes as she watched me heading toward the dressing room. I knocked on the door twice, frowning when she didn’t open the door at first.

However, what made things more complicated was who opened the door.

“Lexi,” I said, and she smiled.

“Normally, you would have been kissing me by now.” She said, frowning when she followed my gaze. I shook my head at the sight of Sienna who was laying on the couch, knocked out with a bottle of champagne by her side.

“You got her drunk,” I said, snapping at Lexi who smiled.

“She wouldn’t have gotten as drunk, but then again, with everything that is going on; the two of us figured that she could loosen up a bit.” She wrapped her arms around my shoulders, pulling me to her, waiting for my reaction. “I figured that it would be a nice side for you to see before you married her. You know, you are going to be that husband to her, and…”

“The two of us, you and me, have already spoken about this. You know that she is going to be my fucking wife on paper. Our families depend on us getting married and I am not going to allow your jealousy to be ruining what we have allied for.” She scoffed, and I watched as she unwrapped her arms from around me, clearly annoyed by my response.

“You are saying this now, and then there will come a time when she catches your attention. You might not be noticing her now, but sharing a room with a woman is bound to make you do so. And when that happens, I do not intend to be the one who is thrown aside as one of your…”

I connected my lips with hers, stopping her from completing her sentence. She smiled into the kiss and I cupped her cheeks, deepening it as she put her hands on my torso, holding me to her.

“You and I both know that this is not going to happen. While yes, she is my wife, it is going to be on paper. I have seen enough women to know that I have my heart to one alone. I do not intend to soften for a woman simply because she is sharing my bed.” I said, and she frowned. “Lexi…”

“You are going to share a bed?” She asked, shocked by my statement.

“I doubt that you expected her to be sleeping in the guest room?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

“There are tens of rooms within your household, she could have had one of them. Make a fucking excuse to do so. I don’t care, but you are not going to share a bed with her, Diablo.” She said, and I took a deep breath.

“Are you done?”

“I am being serious. I am not going to sit back and watch you sleep with the woman, even if you are going to claim that it would be…”

“Lexi, it is bad enough that you got her drunk. The two of us are supposed to play the happy couple, and rather than do so, you just got her drunk.” I said, and she looked away from me.

“I needed to speak to you, and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to do so if she was roaming around your feet. But now it seems to me that it doesn’t make a difference. The woman is going to be sleeping in your room, beside you on your bed. It is only a matter of time before she has caught your attention, somehow, and I am just going to be that extra woman. It is not something that I want for myself, but it is what you seem to be wanting for me.” She said, and I scoffed.

“You are speaking like some jealous woman who has just met me. It is not like you haven’t known me for a long time, and if anyone saw you, they would think that the two of us…”

“I do not need to look at or even consider how others would be seeing me. What matters to me is how I see them, and right now, I am not very happy with what I am hearing, what I saw, and what I think that I am about to see.” She said, taking a step back. “If you choose to have her in your room, then there is no place for me with you, Diablo.”

“Lexi, you are not going to pull that card on me.” I said, and she scoffed, wiping the tears that formed in her eyes.

“I said the same thing when you were getting married. You claimed that it was for family, but here we are.” She said, looking at the door where she had Sienna laying on the couch. I didn’t even know what she had her drinking, but I didn’t know how I was going to manage getting her out of the room without catching everyone’s attention.

“Enjoy your new wife. It seems to me that it’s what you’re going to be doing anyway.” She said, taking a step back. “Only don’t be coming to me when things backfire on you. You know, you tend to have a habit of doing so…”
