Chapter 10

Author: Autumn Three
Before the wedding was even planned, Mom and Dad kept urging me to register my marriage with Dylan. They seemed worried that I would regret my decision, so they wanted me to marry him as soon as possible.

As for Dylan, I decided to be upfront and tell him everything about my first relationship with Vernon. After hearing me out, Dylan brushed his fingers against the faint red scar on my wrist and kissed it tenderly.

"Let me handle the surveillance footage. Don't worry about anything. Once your wrist is completely healed, I'll take you to pick a gown for our engagement party."

I nodded in agreement. I happily let Dylan handle everything for our engagement party.

Over the past six years, my world revolved around Vernon. Now that I had ended things with him for good, I felt free. It was as if a burden had been lifted from my shoulders.

I watched Dylan personally select the venue and order various colorful flowers to be delivered by plane. He also personally wrote out the invitatio

Later, once the scar on my wrist had completely faded away, Dylan took me to pick a gown for our engagement party. So much time had passed since I last saw Vernon. He had shown up in front of the shop with a bouquet of red roses. However, I was no longer excited to see him. "Avril, I don't want to marry Peggy anymore. Over the past few days, I've already come to understand who I truly like. You're the only one I love now!"Gone was the cold pride in Vernon's eyes. All I saw was desperation in his gaze. At that moment, he looked like any other man in the world. He was no different from those exes who begged their ex-girlfriends to forgive them and take them back. But I looked away in disgust. The sight of Vernon made me recall what he did with Peggy in the hotel room on our sixth anniversary. The scene became clearer as it replayed in my mind.Vernon had kissed Peggy not long ago. Yet he was telling me that I was the woman he loved. I was truly amused. I couldn't even be both

After resigning from my job, I no longer had to waste time learning computer science, which I had no interest in. In college, I majored in jewelry design after all. Now, I could use my drawing tools and papers again to work on some jewelry designs. I could pursue the career I had always loved. In the afternoon, I was painting in the greenhouse when Dylan suddenly showed up. He had bought me a sapphire and diamond tiara. As soon as I laid my eyes on the tiara, I immediately recognized it since I had seen it in a book before. It was an antique piece from the previous century. I really liked the lover's knot design on the tiara. The sapphires shimmered in the light, and they were arranged from the smallest to the largest. The sapphires were intricately placed among the diamonds, making them look like teardrops on the crown.Dylan wanted to give me the tiara, but I said I hadn't done anything to deserve it. All he said was he had kept the tiara for me for a long time. He was simp

After hearing my story, Mom and Dad felt sorry for me. Dad said, "Serves you right. You should suffer in your relationship, so you'd appreciate how much we usually protect you."But I also saw the veins bulging on the back of his hands. He wore a grim expression. It looked as if he was on the verge of dragging Vernon home and beating him up.Mom patted my head and comforted me. "That's enough. Since you're home, let's not talk about these depressing things. "It's just a diamond necklace. I'll get a few more of those from the auction tomorrow. That way, you can wear them every day."Whatever sadness I had from recalling the past was washed away instantly. Despite the tears in my eyes, I couldn't help but smile. I decided to retire for the night and rest well. The next day, I received many phone calls from an unknown number. Before I went to bed, I always had a habit of putting my phone on airplane mode. As soon as I turned it off, the notifications on my phone poured in at on

"Avril, Dylan's genuinely good to you. He dropped by several times before to ask for your hand in marriage. Since he already passed our test, I'm sure there's nothing wrong with him."I nodded. Throughout the journey home, I noticed how considerate Dylan was.I suddenly recalled that Vernon and Peggy would be getting engaged today and how everyone would be congratulating and complimenting them. But I ended up being accused of stealing the necklace. In the end, I decided to tell Mom and Dad everything about my relationship with Vernon. In college, everyone considered Vernon as an attractive man who was out of their league. I often prayed for his health and even got lucky charms for him. I had pursued him for two years before he finally agreed to be with me. While I was in college, I did hear about Vernon having a childhood sweetheart. Since I never saw Peggy by his side, I didn't think much of it. Vernon also had rosary beads on his study desk. One time, I accidentally touche

Of course, I did the same thing my ex-colleagues did. I congratulated Vernon and Peggy on their engagement before deleting all his contact information. Soon, my flight touched down at Paloria. Mom and Dad personally came to pick me up from the airport. Mom held my hand, looking rather dismayed. "My sweet daughter. You studied and worked so far from home. Look at you! You're so thin!"Dad also patted me on the shoulder and kept saying, "I'm glad you're back!"Next to Mom and Dad was a man with a straight posture. He had broad shoulders and a slim waist. The man wore a three-piece suit. He seemed a few years older than I was and had deep-set features. A humorous glint flashed through his gentle gaze as he quietly looked at me. I couldn't help but blush under his intense gaze. By then, I already had an idea of who the man was. Mom and Dad hurriedly made the introductions. "Avril, this is Dylan Walker."I reached out to shake his hand. He did the same and gently held my finger
