ASHINA’S POV

By the time I returned to our camp, my wound had opened again. My steps were quite wobbly, but my heart was fixed on my motive. The sentries called out when they saw me, and in moments, Alpha Boris was at my side, panic etched into every line of his face.

"Zelda! I was so worried about you… I’m so sorry…You’re bleeding—"

"I’m fine," I interrupted, waving him off even as he reached to steady me.

“These bastards hit me from behind and took you away! I was so worried about you,” Alpha Boris explained.

"I know you would have saved me… I hold no grudges against you… I need to speak with you right now."

Inside the command tent, I told him everything. Alpha Boris stood rigid the entire time, and when I was done, his fists were clenched so tightly that his knuckles had turned white.

"You made a deal with the enemy?"

"To save my family," I replied softly. "Would you have done anything different?"
