When I had heard that Ashina was going to the border to fight, I could not believe my ears. Was she crazy?

Well, perhaps if she had gone to the border once I was back, she could have lost her life and I could have inherited her wealth while still married.

The realisation hit me like a punch to the gut. Years of struggle, years of relentless work, and yet, I had nothing to show for it. I had spent so long believing that I was securing a future, that my efforts would amount to something stable, only to find out that everything had vanished into thin air.
