Chapter 6

ผู้เขียน: Jasmine Flower
A few hours after the explosion, I landed safely in Silvercrest. As I walked out of the airport, I saw a familiar figure standing under the soft lights.

"Luca?" I called out in surprise.

Luca Ysidro was my senior in college. After graduation, he moved to Silvercrest to work at a research institute.

Years had passed, yet he still looked as handsome as ever, only steadier and more composed than before.

"Isabella, long time no see." Luca walked over with a warm smile and pulled me into a brief hug.

"What are you doing here?" I asked curiously.

"I came to pick you up," he replied lightly. "I heard you were coming to Silvercrest, so I volunteered."

"Thank you, Luca."

"You never need to thank me. We're family in academia," he said with a laugh. "How have you been all these years?"

"It's… complicated." I sighed, not wanting to go into detail.

"You don't have to tell me anything." He was considerate as always. "Come on. I'll take you to the institute."

I followed Luca to the car. W

Five years passed in the blink of an eye. With Luca and me looking after her, my daughter grew up healthy and bright. He kept every promise he had made—treating her as his own, giving her affection and patience, and supporting me in my research work without reservation. Now, my project had reached a major breakthrough.I stood at the conference podium, microphone in hand, facing rows of experts and fellow researchers. My heart raced with excitement."Hello, everyone. I'm Isabella Valenti." I drew a deep breath. "Today, I want to share our latest findings in the development of an anticancer treatment. It can reverse tissue damage caused by cancer cells…"After I finished explaining my methods and results, thunderous applause erupted beneath the stage."Thank you for your recognition," I said, my eyes glistening. "Lastly, I want to give special thanks to someone."I glanced instinctively toward the front row. There sat Luca, pride and emotion written plainly on his face, tears shi

As the days passed, my belly grew heavier. With Luca's careful attention, my pregnancy went smoothly. At last, the day of delivery arrived. I was wheeled into the operating room while Luca waited outside anxiously. He usually gave me a sense of calm and stability, yet in that moment, even he could not hide his fear and nervousness. The procedure went well. My daughter and I were both safe. When the nurse carried my baby out to show Luca, tears streamed down his face at once. He followed us back to the recovery ward, still shaken, still emotional. He looked at my daughter and me, his gaze filled with warmth."Signorian, thank you," he said softly. "Thanks for letting me witness something so beautiful."I froze for a moment, unsure what he meant. Then he spoke again. "Actually… I've always liked you. "Do you remember your freshman year? The first time your group came into the lab?" he asked gently."At that time, your team members accidentally broke the machine. They were afraid

Lorenzo's POVIsabella's phone buzzed, and a new message popped up. It was from Marjorie."Isabella, you must've died in that explosion."Someone like you, unloved and unwanted, deserves such an ending."Lorenzo is mine now. You'll never have him again."Lorenzo's face darkened instantly. He gripped his phone tightly, fury flashing in his eyes.He stood up abruptly and stormed out of the hospital room. He made his way to Marjorie's ward, throwing the door open.Marjorie looked up, surprised and delighted. "Lorenzo, you're finally here. I missed you so much. My stomach hurts… Could you—"She pretended her stomach hurt, trying to gain his sympathy. But Lorenzo struck her across the face with a sharp, merciless slap."You filthy bitch. How dare you contact Isabella behind my back? What made you think you could show your face in front of her?"Marjorie reeled from the slap, dazed and unsteady. She covered her cheek, staring at him in shock."Lorenzo, what are you talking about?"

Lorenzo's POVDebris from the plane fell from the sky.Lorenzo's expression changed instantly. He rushed toward the service counter, his voice shaking."About that flight… Was Isabella Valenti on the passenger list?"The staff quickly checked and nodded. "Yes. Ms. Valenti was indeed on that flight."Lorenzo staggered as if struck by lightning. "No. Impossible. She can't be dead. She couldn't—"He ran toward the explosion site like a madman, but the police restrained him. "Sir, you cannot enter. It's too dangerous!"He collapsed to his knees, staring blankly at the wreckage as tears streamed down his face."Isabella! Isabella!" His desperate cry carried raw pain, enough to tear a man apart.A doctor approached and spoke with heavy regret. "Sir, all passengers on board perished. I am very sorry."Hearing that, Lorenzo's strength drained from his body. He fainted on the spot. That night, he woke up in a hospital bed. He looked pale, as if he had just aged a decade in a few hour

Right after that, I received an anonymous message. Marjorie did not introduce herself, but I knew who the sender was.She sent photos of every gift Lorenzo had bought for her. One picture showed the two of them standing in a maternity store, picking out baby items together. He looked genuinely happy."Lorenzo said the baby in my belly will become the heir of the Alvarez famiglia."I ignored her, but she grew even bolder, flooding my phone with messages. I turned off my phone as I did not want to see her texts anymore.Although I already knew the truth, every message still felt like a blade stabbing straight into my chest. I couldn't stop crying. At least this betrayal would be over soon. Once I left Frostholm Isles, I would disappear. The next morning, Lorenzo and I arrived at the airport. Just as we reached the boarding gate, Marjorie sent a new message."I heard you two are traveling? Going back to where you first met?"You think returning there will make him remember his old
