Though Susan finally realized who I was after hearing my voice, she wasn't able to squeeze through the crowd to get to me.

I heard her calling for me, but I had no time or energy to spare for her. All I could focus on was the crystal bangle.

At last, Melissa managed to get a good grip on it and tugged forcefully.

The bangle slipped from my wrist and fell to the ground, immediately shattering into pieces. I bent down and picked up the fragments. No matter how hard I tried, I wasn't able to piece it back together.

"Ms. Chance!" Rushing over to me, Susan wrapped me up in a hug before bursting into tears.

My voice trembled as I said, "Why…"

Susan's face twisted into a furious expression as she glared at everyone around us. "You bastards! This is my mentor! She's—"

I stopped her from finishing her sentence. At this point, I was truly tired of all this.

For a moment, Samuel stared blankly at me and Susan. Several seconds later, he snapped out of it and leaned down to help me up.
