Chapter 3

Author: Mohini
Rachel quickly put her phone away, guilt flashing across her face as she deliberately changed the subject.

"I only made you wait for a little bit. There's no need to look so miserable. Once I overcome it, there'll be opportunities in the future."

Seeing the perfunctory impatience and barely concealed disgust on her face, my heart twisted painfully.

With Rupert, she could indulge in passion without restraint, completely free of any so-called germophobia. But when it came to me, she would probably never overcome the instinctive revulsion she felt.

I clenched my fists tightly, so numb that I could no longer feel any physical pain.

-

On the day of the auction, as Rachel searched through her closet for an evening gown, she spoke in a casual tone.

"Go take a proper shower first. I'm bringing you to an auction tonight. I heard there's a finale item everyone's dying to get their hands on. Pretty much everyone attending is there for that piece. We should go join the excitement too."

The moment I heard her words, it felt like an electric shock ran through my body.

"I'm not going," I refused immediately, panic rising in my chest. "And I don't want to bid on anything."

Her expression instantly darkened.

"What kind of childish tantrum are you throwing now? Rupert even said he'd buy you a few pieces of jewelry. At your age, all you know how to do is sulk like a child…

"You're going whether you want to or not. Ever since we got married, all you do is stay home, washing clothes and cooking meals. The housekeepers barely have anything left to do. Anyone who didn't know better would think you were trying to steal a servant's job. Come out to see the world for once."

My gaze fell on my scarred, ruined hands, and suddenly I found the whole thing laughable.

For years, to accommodate her so-called mysophobia, I washed the bedsheets three times a day and hand-washed all her clothes myself.

And in her eyes, it was nothing more than the work of a servant. Something shamefully beneath notice.

When she saw me staring silently at my hands, Rachel finally lost the last of her patience. She shoved me straight into my designated "disinfectant bathtub."

Afterward, she steeled herself and wiped down my body personally, though the disgust on her face was impossible to hide.

Once she finished drying me off, she disinfected herself again before dragging me into the car.

By the time we arrived at the auction venue, the room was alive with clinking glasses and lively conversation about the upcoming event.

The instant he spotted me, Rupert walked over with a smile and carefully examined my hands.

Years of soaking in disinfectant had turned both hands unnaturally pale and flushed red at the same time. My skin had become paper-thin, covered in angry rashes.

"Tsk, Michael, you have such delicate skin," he teased with a grin. "I heard Rachel can't even bear to touch you. She's probably afraid you'll break."

The next second, someone abruptly exposed the truth.

"Hahaha! It's not that she's afraid of breaking him. She just doesn't want to touch him! Otherwise, why would he still be a virgin after five years of marriage?"

Another wave of explosive laughter crashed over me mercilessly, swallowing me whole.

For five years, she truly hadn't allowed me to touch even a single strand of her hair.

My brows furrowed as heat burned across my face. I spoke coldly, "Have you said enough?"

Rachel clicked her tongue, displeasure obvious in her dark eyes.

"They're complimenting you for being pure, and you can't appreciate it? Can't you tell good intentions from bad ones? It means you're clean. Anyone else would secretly be thrilled. Don't be so ungrateful."

Seeing my expression remain icy, one of the women nearby raised her wineglass toward me.

"Exactly, handsome, don't be such a poor sport. She was praising you just now. Come on, have a drink. This wine's very expensive."

I looked around the room.

Every single gaze had locked onto me in unison.

The moment I remembered they were planning to auction off my virginity, understanding hit me instantly. Coldly, I pushed the wineglass away.

"Wasn't this supposed to be an auction for collectibles? I don't drink."

At my response, the fingers wrapped around Rachel's wineglass tightened until her knuckles turned pale as she forcibly suppressed her anger.

Yet, the one who was supposed to be back in the country for her wedding—Rachel—suddenly appeared in front of Paige and me.The moment she saw us together, she clearly froze before rushing forward to question me."Is she your ex-girlfriend?"I pulled Paige's arm slightly toward me and gave her no polite response."That's none of your business."But Rachel stepped in immediately, blocking the path with a disbelieving look."How is it not my business? Don't tell me you're living with her now?"Seeing Rachel's hostile attitude, Paige stepped directly in front of me."This is between Michael and me. Please respect his choice."Rachel suddenly slapped her. Paige was knocked to the ground."What are you doing!" I immediately rushed to Paige's side. "Are you okay?"Paige shook her head and slowly stood up.At the sight of this, Rachel's eyes turned red."You only care about her now? Don't forget—I'm your wife!"In my understanding, a wife would never betray her husband. But she h

It seemed Grandma Marilyn had already told Rachel about Paige. But whatever feelings I had for Paige no longer had anything to do with Rachel.I let out a cold laugh."Do you dare say nothing was going on between you and Rupert? I'll be honest with you—I heard everything. The two of you together. That day, you locked me up in the room, butt-naked, exposed for everyone to see. I heard it all."At my words, Rachel staggered back in disbelief, panic flashing across her face."So… you knew everything all along?"I met her eyes and nodded. And yet, strangely enough, I was glad I had heard it. Otherwise, I would have remained in the dark my entire life, letting my wife secretly do such disgusting, filthy things behind my back. That would have been the real nightmare.Seeing my reaction, Rachel's lips pressed together as all her arrogance finally drained away."It was just a moment of confusion with him. Don't overthink it, okay?"So that was her excuse. The classic line of someone

I boarded the plane in a daze, and when I opened my eyes again, I was already lying in an apartment."Michael, you're finally awake."The first thing that came into view was Paige's familiar face.In just a second, all the strength I had been forcing myself to hold onto collapsed. I broke down and clung to her, sobbing uncontrollably.Rachel and the others had stripped me naked and locked me inside that crystal display case, subjecting my body and mind to humiliating torment. I never wanted to go back there again."It's okay… it's okay. I'm here," Paige comforted me, holding me tightly in her arms—warmth I had not felt in five years.Rachel always said I had "ulterior motives" toward her. A sharp slap landed immediately after—cracking across Rupert's face.Rupert clutched his cheek in disbelief, staring at Rachel."What's wrong with you? You used to be so desperate for me. Just because that filthy piece of shit left, you're hitting me now?"Rachel showed no sympathy for his pitiful expression. Instead, a warning flashed in her eyes."Don't you ever call him that again. Michael is still my husband."Rupert's eyes filled with defiance at her sudden change. He let out a cold laugh."Your grandmother said your marriage to him is over. He's no longer your husband. He's probably already gone off and made vows with another woman."The next second, she slapped him again. This time, blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, and his hair fell into disarray."I didn't agree to a divorce. So it doesn't count."With that, she pulled out her phone and dialed Michael's number."The number you dialed cannot be reached at the moment…"She tried again and again, but the resul

With that, Grandma Marilyn let out a cold snort and, leaning on her personal caretaker, left the venue without another word. The news landed like a bomb.Rupert could barely contain himself—he almost screamed out in excitement."Rachel! Your grandmother actually agreed for you to marry me! Isn't this exactly what we wanted? We don't have to sneak around anymore!"His friends immediately chimed in with congratulations, raising their glasses toward her."Things worked out in the end, Rachel. Didn't you always find Michael disgusting? Now it's perfect—your grandmother's backing you, and you finally get to marry Rupert.""Congratulations, Rachel!""Michael used to cling to you like a ghost, like some shameless man who just wouldn't leave you alone. Now, he's finally out of the picture. Honestly, this turned out better than expected.""Yeah, in a weird way, this mess worked in your favor!"Laughter and flattery filled the air. Glasses clinked one after another.Rupert casually toy

"G-Grandma? Why are you here?"Clutching her cheek, Rachel shot to her feet in panic, like a mouse spotting a cat.Grandma Marilyn trembled with rage and let out a cold snort."If I hadn't come, I never would've known you were auctioning off your husband's virginity. You've really outdone yourself!"Rachel instantly lowered her head, fumbling awkwardly for excuses."We were just joking around. I just thought Michael had been feeling depressed lately, so I brought him out to have some fun."Then she complained softly, "And Grandma, what was that thing you slapped me with? That really hurt."Rachel bent down to pick up the document from the floor. The moment she saw the words printed on it, the playful smile on her face vanished completely. Her heart skipped a beat as she stared at the divorce papers."T-This… what does this mean, Grandma? Michael and I are legally married. What is the meaning of these divorce papers?"Grandma Marilyn sighed heavily, disappointment etched deep i
