“You’re going to help us?” Mia asked, almost jumping to her feet, but she remained seated and just looked at Nyx.

The witch didn't look at her as she answered, her eyes fixed on Dalian instead. “Of course. I’ll help you. But I have one condition, though.”

Mia and Dalian tensed. Of course there was a condition. She wouldn't just agree to help them without asking for something. And with the way she was looking at Dalian, Mia didn't think she was going to like that condition.

She was ready to stand up and defend Dalian, demand that she ask for something else, and drag him out of here if Nyx refused.

But Nyx only just said, “I want to be invited to your celebration.”

Silence. A shocked and suspicious silence. That was her condition? Out of all the things she could ask for, that was it? Even though Mia had thought it would be something more, she felt even more on edge.

Something wasn't right with Nyx. That glint in her eyes said it all, but they just had to understand what it meant.

A Few Hours Ago....Dalian was finally alone with Mia in his room. They had just finished talking about Aria with the others. Dalian had told Mia how Aria refused to break their mate bond, and how fiercely she had refused. And how he hated the thought of it. Mia, on the other hand, even though she was clearly worried, had listened to him and was offering her quiet support. Her touch was a comfort against his swirling frustration."She won't let go," Dalian sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. He walked over to the window, then stared out at the sky. "She made it clear. That she was never going to do it. What do we even do now, Mia? This is a huge problem. It's not just about us. It's about the pack's safety."Mia came over and stood next to him. Her own hands moved out gently, taking his hand."I don't know, Dalian," she said softly, as her brow furrowed with concern. "It's... It's a very big problem. But I want you to relax. I don't want this to weigh you down. We'll figure it o

Aria's final words hung in the air. “Never.”She faced Dalian for another breathless moment, her eyes burning with a mix of rage… and something else. Then, as silent as the stone beneath her feet, she turned on her heel. Her black hair whipped around her as she retreated into the lodge. The door slid shut behind her with quiet finality.A dismissal.Dalian stared after her, chest heaving with anger and disbelief. His mission had failed. Aria hadn’t just refused—she’d declared war, and made it clear: it was either her way… or her way. No compromise. No middle ground. He exhaled sharply, dragging a hand down his face. This was worse than he had expected.Turning away, he made his way back to the main packhouse, where Mia, Darius, and Ravenna were waiting. The pack was steady now—nothing like the chaos of the night before. Though the wounded wolves were still being treated, and warriors continued scrubbing the bloodstained grounds, the air was less frantic. Yet for Dalian, the relief tha

Dalian faced Aria's lodge. Aria had just come with him, and now they were alone, they stood together in the cold air. The silence between them was thick, and for what seemed like a long time, nobody said anything to each other.Dalian's mind was heavy, with all that had happened and all that needed to be said. He had to prepare his very first statement in his mind before even uttering it.And even though his outward appearance seemed relaxed, his heart pounded like a drum against his chest. He felt the tension in the air, a recognizable tension that reminded him of the battle that had happened hours ago. But this was a different kind of battle, it was his personal battle. He took a deep breath, trying to settle himself. He had to do this. For Mia. For his pack. For peace's sake in general."Aria," he started, with his voice low but level. "Thank you. For last night, I mean. You and Nyx. You helped us. You fought alongside us. It was unexpected. Even when the others fled, you stood bac

Dalian's room was still, with only soft noises of breath coming from him and Mia.Dalian was resting on the edge of his bed. His arm was still bandaged, but his mind was never still. Victory was theirs, but the real challenge was yet to come. He needed to talk to Aria, but he hated to think of it because he really did not want to see her. And even before now, he had forgotten that there was a weight he had to bear. Not until Darius reminded him of it.Mia stood up and sat next to him, gently placing her fingers on his uninjured hand. "Hey," she whispered. "Are you still worried?"Dalian winced, dragging his hand through his hair. "Worried? No, Mia, I’m not worried... I just hate the idea. I don't want to see that witch for any gentle talks," he blurted, his voice calm and firm but laced with obvious worry. "Not after what happened, after she tried to almost kill you, frame you..."Mia squeezed her hand on top of his. "I know," she whispered. "I know it's hard, and I know you don't wan

"Aria and Nyx?" Mia questioned, her voice still trembling from the events of that morning.Darius looked shocked by the question. "I was as surprised as anyone to find them," he admitted, running his hand through his hair. "They were good, really helpful, to my greatest surprise. But I haven't seen them since the battle stopped last night."The door creaked open and Dalian arrived. He had a tiny limp in his step, but his eyes were beaming as he saw Mia. "Mia," he said, hurrying to her side. He squeezed her hand, like he hadn't seen her for days."Looks like someone found their peace after the war, huh, Dalian?" Darius teased."Oh yes… I did," Dalian cooed, his face beaming with a smile while still looking at Mia. His hand flew to her hair to remove an invisible speck.Ravenna chuckled. "Lovebirds! Not even a pack fight can keep you both apart."Dalian simply rolled his eyes in a friendly manner, a small smile laced on his lips. Mia blushed, but she didn't pull her hand away."Hey Luc

Mia's keen, concerned eyes dropped to his hands immediately. She could discern the red colour across his arm in the dim light, and a deep, ragged cut that was into his left forearm, still oozing blood slowly."It's just a few scratches," he dismissed, but she pulled on his arm."It needs tending," she said softly but insistently. "Come on."The air was cool and carried the distant sounds of their pack falling back into place to defend the territory. Mia perched on the edge of the bed beside Dalian, a basin of warm water and a clean cloth was placed on the space between them. She gently cleaned the slash of claw in his forearm. Her fingers were light as a feather, almost respectful, as she wiped away the dried blood. The short, deep scratch looked hurtful, it was a testament to the brutal fight."You truly were fantastic," Dalian said once more, watching her. Her brow was furrowed in concentration, as she was still tending to his wounds in a quiet, intimate gesture. "That instant the J
