Kiara's POV

My cheeks burned, but that wasn't the only thing on fire. Heat seared through my body, and the cool breeze that rustled through the night did nothing to make me feel better. If anything, it only made me all the more hot, and I couldn't help but stop to wipe the beads of sweat that lined my forehead away from my face.

I pressed my feet deeper into the ground, pushing myself faster than I would like to. Since I was still weak, running wasn't exactly the best option for me, but I didn't really put too much thought into it. Right now, my mind was a total mess, and the only thing I wanted to focus on, was putting as much space as I could between me and what had just happened back there.

No, scratch that.

Between me and him.

My feet caught in some stray vines that had somehow crawled onto the ground, and I almost tripped. Luckily for me, I was able to catch myself in time, right before I could fall face flat onto the ground. I was already having a kind of shitty nig

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 156

Kiara’s POV The sun hadn’t even fully broken past the treeline, yet I was already awake. Not because I wanted to be, but because Darius had told me to. I honestly thought it had been a joke, a sick prank that he had somehow allowed to play into the next day. Hell, one of the reasons I didn't go to bed early was because I stayed up late, waiting and hoping that Darius would come in and tell me he was joking, and had simply forgotten to tell me it was just a prank earlier. However, no matter how hard I tried to delude myself into thinking that it will happen somehow, it doesn't, and the birds chirping early this morning was the only realization I needed to finally snap out of it. I sat at the edge of the bed, elbows on my knees, while I stared at the floorboards. There wasn't much to look at, but it was only every word from last night that replayed like a broken record,in my head. You’ll leave first thing in the morning. Darius had said. It’s for your safety.Safety. I scoffed at t

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 155

Kiara's POV The silence in the air was loud, save for the occasional chirp of distant birds outside the window. Had it been for them, I wouldn't have had the faintest idea that it was already morning. I hadn't remembered falling asleep either, but I was grateful for the little sleep I'd gotten. My body didn't ache as it used to, and the pain in my palm had simply dulled into an almost non existent existent throb now. The headache that had greeted me for the last couple days were nowhere to be found, and I muttered a small string of prayers and thanks to the goddess. Morning light filtered through the curtains, and for a minute, I was mesmerized. The rays were soft and golden, as it cast shadows across the room. While it was a truly beautiful sight to watch, all I could feel was the tightness in my chest. It had lingered from the night before, like a ghost that had refused to stop haunting me. Right now I was scared, still feeling betrayed and partly confused, and yet, there didn

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 154

Darius' POV The council chamber reeked of false civility, and I hated every bit of it. Growing up, and years before I became the Alpha, I used to look up to the council members, why? It was pretty simply back then. They were the ideal image of justice and equality, and their motto was to serve the alpha and their pack with their knowledge, advice and sometimes might. My father had told me I needed their wisdom to become a great leader, but maybe, somewhere along the line, it must have skipped his mind that they were all humans at the end of the day and sometimes, power corrupted even the most tamest of minds. I didn't want to admit it, but right now, every indication was pointing at that fact, and I could only wonder what my father would think of this if he were to find out what had become of his beloved council. A small frown made its way to my face as I took in the sight in front of me. The polished floors, regal banners, and stoic faces, would have impressed me a while back,

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 153

Darius' POV For the next couple of seconds, all that could be heard was the sound of my footsteps. It echoed and bounced off all the walls, but despite that, I still couldn't bring myself to focus on the low sounds my feet were making. It came as a sort of rhythm, but I wasn't the least bit interested in my skills. Right now, all I wanted to do was to rip someone's throat out. I stared at the clock hung high up on the wall and all it did was make me scowl. It'd been an hour since I sent word, an hour since I asked him to get here, and yet, he was nowhere to be found. Where the fuck is he? As time slowly crawled by, the icky change I noticed was the way my frown deepened. I tried my best to school my expression, but the more I tried, the harder it became. My blood was boiling at this point, and I was sure that if I didn't find a way to expell the anger, I was going to combust. A small sigh slid past my lips as I pinched the bridge of my nose. From the corner of my eyes, I caugh

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 152

Darius' POV The moment her eyes fluttered closed, my breath caught. For one terrifying second, I thought she was gone again but her chest rose, slow and steady, and I forced myself to breathe. She was just asleep. Just resting, but the fear wouldn’t unclench from my gut.My eyes went back to her sleeping figure, and once I caught the steady movement of her chest rising and falling again, the rest of the fear and anxiety seemed to dissolve almost instantly. She looked so peaceful while she slept, and for a moment, it felt like all was well in the world and between us. Until my mind went back to the last couple of hours that is. Kiara had been attacked, and I would only be fooling myself if I thought otherwise. It wasn't a coincidence, and deep down, I thought the fact that she was attacked had to be the worst part of this entire scenario, but I couldn't be more wrong. It was the trauma that came with it. Kiara wouldn't accept it, but she was having a hard time going to bed now.

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 151

Kiara’s POV Pain. Red hot pain flared all round my body, and to say I hated the experience had to be the biggest understatement of the year. It was the first thing I felt, thick and overwhelming, pulling me under like waves that wouldn’t stop crashing. My limbs felt like lead, and like that wasn't enough pain for me, it felt like I'd been stitched together by something heavy and raw, something that wasn't even meant to be anywhere near my body at all. My throat ached badly, and my saliva burned as it made its way down my throat and further into my body. My chest felt like it was caving in, and my heart beat like it was this close to combusting all at once. Was I dying? I couldn't help but ask myself. That was the only thing I could come up with at the moment. I'd read papers and research where scholars said death was usually swift and painless. Since I wasn't experiencing any of that, did that mean I wasn't dying? No, no. Dying didn’t feel this loud, so there was no way I coul
