A dim light faintly illuminated the room. It was decorated in a princess style, but instead of the usual pink, everything was gold. The air felt soft—yet gloomy, reflecting the mood of the girl sitting on the plush bed.

A gentle knock sounded on the door, followed by a small voice.

“Miss, it is time for dinner.”

The tone carried caution, as if afraid of provoking her.

The girl stood up and walked to the door, pulling it open.

The maid on the other side looked visibly shocked to see her come out on her own, but quickly bowed.

The girl showed no reaction as she walked through the brightly lit hall, her heels clicking softly against the floor.

The moment she stepped into the dining hall, the man seated at the table paused.

He looked at her in disbelief. “You came out without being forced?”

The girl pulled out a chair and sat down calmly. Picking up her cutlery, she replied,

“It’s tiring to throw tantrums every day. It’s not getting me what I want.”

The man still couldn’t believe it, but she began eating quietly. Soon, she was done.

She stood up to leave.

“Where are you going?” he asked quickly.

“To the garden,” she replied simply.

“You’re being unbelievably calm today,” he finally said, voicing his thoughts.

Throwing tantrums, refusing to eat, smashing valuable items, scolding people over minor things—that had been her routine. So this sudden calmness was suspicious.

She paused midway.

“Maybe I’ve accepted my fate, Papa,” she said softly, her voice empty of emotion.

He studied her for a moment, then slowly nodded.

“Good,” he said with a faint smile.

So it’s good that I’ve accepted being caged, she thought as she walked out.

Stepping into the garden, her fingers brushed over flowers now asleep under the night sky. It was quiet—lonely, as always.

The moon followed her steps, her only companion.

Her name was Arya.

Her mother had died giving birth to her, leaving her to be raised solely by her father. In all her eighteen years of life, she had never seen the world beyond this mansion.

Or rather—

This cage.

As a child, she believed there was nothing outside these walls. She was content.

But as she grew older, she began to notice things.

Like the butterfly that flew out of the garden—

And never came back.

Curiosity took root. Then longing.

She tried everything.

Acting cute. Throwing tantrums. Refusing to eat.

Nothing worked.

Her father never wavered.

“You are not safe outside,” he always said.

Arya stopped and looked up at the sky.

“It ends tonight,” she whispered.

The longing. The tears. The frustration.

All of it—

Would end tonight.

Because tonight, she would escape.

She glanced around carefully.

When she was sure no one was watching, she turned a sharp corner.

There it was—

A small hole in the wall. Just big enough for someone to squeeze through.

Her escape route.

She had found it the previous day while exploring.

Without hesitation, she pushed her head through and began twisting her body to fit.

It hurt.

But she didn’t stop.

Minutes passed before she finally managed to get halfway through.

Then—

She saw a pair of legs.

Without thinking, she grabbed them and used them as support to pull herself out.

When she finally tumbled free, she was still clutching the stranger’s leg.

Arya burst into laughter. Her ribs ached, and a tear slipped from the corner of her eye.

She was free.

Finally—free.

She was about to look around—

When a calm voice sounded above her.

“Looking for death?”

The voice was low, almost quiet—yet it sent chills down her spine.

She slowly looked up.

And froze.

A pair of piercing eyes stared down at her, as if they could see straight into her soul.

But then—

She truly saw him.

And her breath caught.

He was the most beautiful man she had ever seen.

Sharp jawline. Defined features. Pale skin. Dark hair falling over his forehead.

Arya was completely speechless.

He crouched down to her level, a wave of strong scent of sandal wood brushed her nose. Suddenly his hand wrapped around her neck.

His gaze turned cold.

Deadly.

As if he could end her life at any moment.

But instead of fear—

Arya smiled.

Her eyes sparkled as she looked at him up close.

And without hesitation, she said—

“Be my boyfriend.”

A flash of lightning split the sky.

Thunder roared.

And the rain began to fall.

The servant went on to explain, "ARC Institute, which stands for Anomalous Research Consortium. They specialize in researching unexplained biological phenomena, and they firmly believe in the existence of supernatural beings."The servant emphasized the words supernatural beings before continuing."But that's only the surface. They research the existence of supernatural beings to study their genes and create superhumans.""Creation of superhumans?" Alpha Kayden questioned, raising a brow."I thought those only happened in movies. Who knew people actually wanted to create superhumans?" Luciano was equally stunned by ARC's ambition."Anything about their CEO?" Finn asked. He was the only one who remained calm, along with Daxiel, who wasn't even listening."Yes. Their CEO is well known for his insatiable hunger for power. He would do anything to keep his company afloat and prevent it from sinking," the servant said. The air fell silent, and the tension became palpable. The servant quietl

The door to the interrogation room pushed open, and Luciano walked out. Finn had been standing outside the whole time.To Luciano's surprise, Daxiel was also standing with him. His head rested against the wall, his eyes closed.Luciano brought his palm forward, showing Finn that it was covered in blood.“He’s dead,” Finn said, not asking but stating.Luciano nodded. “Yes. He killed himself.”Finn’s expression remained unfaltering, and Luciano asked, “You don’t seem surprised?”Finn gave no reply.Luciano shook his head. He should have known. Everything that happened was always within Finn’s expectations. Things rarely went beyond what he anticipated. From being called over to investigate the human, to the human trying to tempt him, and finally, to the human killing himself—Finn had probably expected all of it.And that was the truth.Finn had known from the very beginning that the human was probably working for an organization.People like him were like soldiers. They either survived

"So, how do I get out?" James asked, not wasting any time.Luciano looked up at him and said, "There are four exits out of the palace. Three are heavily guarded, while one is unguarded—the forest at the back of the main building."James listened attentively. When Luciano stopped speaking, he asked, "How do I get there?""Through me," Luciano said casually."Through you?" James questioned, trying to process the meaning behind Luciano's words.By the time he finally understood, it was too late.Luciano released his aura, sending James flying several feet backward. His back slammed against the wall, and he let out a painful groan."Ouch."He held his back, his teeth grinding together in pain."Enough joking around. Let's get to business, Boss James," Luciano said as he grabbed James and slammed him back into the chair."I'm sorry," Luciano apologized. "I didn't mean to hurt you, but you did it first."James tried to fight back. He tightened his grip on the knife and lunged it toward Luci

“You have ten seconds to get to your feet,” Finn said coldly.Luciano remained unmoving. The first second passed. Then the second. Then the third.Just when worry was about to seep into Finn’s expression, Luciano suddenly jumped to his feet.“Didn't you see the warning that no one is allowed to shift during this period?” Finn questioned.“Uhm?” Luciano murmured, his eyelids lifting slightly. “No shifting during this period? Why?”But how could Finn explain?Instead, he simply turned and walked away.Luciano waved at a servant standing nearby.“Come here,” he called. The servant immediately greeted him. “Prince Luciano.”But Luciano cared little about the greeting and went straight to the point.“Why are we banned from shifting?”“You don't know?” the servant asked in surprise.Luciano shook his head.“Well, the thing is, a human made a video of a pup shifting and sent it to three unidentified sources, which are currently under investigation,” the servant explained.“What the hell?” Lu

"Daxiel," Arya thought to herself. Why should she call him? She had nothing to tell him. She thought you only called people when you had something to say to them."What would I say to him?" Arya asked with a genuinely curious expression.Butler Neil suggested, "You could just ask about his well-being.""Oh," Arya muttered to herself. Then she passed the phone to Butler Neil. Not that she still felt like calling to ask about his well-being, but she knew that if she refused, Butler Neil would persist.Butler Neil took that as a go-ahead and dialed Daxiel's number, a wide smile appearing on his face.On the first ring, Daxiel didn't pick up the call. That was certainly deliberate. On the second ring, he finally answered, and Butler Neil quickly passed the phone to Arya. She took the phone and said, "Hello."There was silence on the other end of the phone. Then Daxiel finally spoke in a slightly annoyed voice. "What do you want?""I just wanted to ask how you are," Arya said in a very sma

“I was only asking,” Crystal managed to say.Luciano paused in his fury and asked, “Aren’t you asking because you want to chase me out?”“I am not,” Crystal said.“Really? You won’t ask me to leave?” Luciano asked in disbelief, as if trying to confirm whether Crystal was lying or not.“Yes, you can stay as long as you want. It’s just one human. I can afford it,” Crystal said generously, as if she were talking about keeping a pet.In reality, Crystal never wanted him to leave. Over the past few days that Luciano had been with her, she had grown accustomed to his presence. For the first time in a very long while, she had met someone who cared about her without caring about her weakness. Or perhaps he didn't even give much thought to it.Luciano sat and looked at her. Seeing her arrogant expression, he finally believed her.“Good, then.”Crystal’s face brightened, but she was quick to mask it.“If you want to go out, don’t forget to lock the door.”“I have nowhere to go,” Luciano said, c
