Chapter 34. Beginning to Sail

Pepper POV

Memories rushed through my head when I let my mind wander back in time.

I closed my eyes as images from the past flashed before me, frame by frame, like a movie playing in my mind.

“I missed you.” I heard Victor whisper, making my eyes open in surprise.

Anger burst inside. I wanted to lash out at him, and I did. I could not help the onrush of feeling coming in torrents.

"How dare you?" I snarled, turning my head around abruptly to face him. But I was surprised to find that we were only separated by mere inches.

A little inclination of his head and our lips would have touched.

I jumped up to put a good distance between us, but someone from behind pushed at my back, and I lost my balance.

"Ahh!" I cried in surprise.

My arms flailed for balance before I found something to break the fall.

With eyes growing wide in horror, I fell toward Victor.

I could not blink.

It took me a while for the whole thing to sink in.

My hands were pressed to Victor's shoulders, and he was
