“Charlotte, I apologize on her behalf,” Angela said.

“I mean, it was just a dream,” Emma explained.

“Oh, shut up, Emma!” Olive snapped.

I didn’t know what to say in this situation, but I was happy that today wasn’t so depressing.

They were wild, funny, chaotic, a bit overwhelming—but my heart was healing thanks to them.

“You two are terrible. Charlotte, so are you going out tonight or not? Make a decision”.

Olive said.

My chest ached slightly, but I knew I couldn’t stay here wallowing—not with these three energetic, chaotic friends around me.

So I smiled faintly and nodded.

Angela’s eyes gleamed mischievously.

“And we’ll go shopping too, right?”

I nodded again.

“Yeah!!!” Angela shouted.

“And if he calls your phone, forget it. We’ll hide it in a bag or throw it in the fridge. Problem solved.”

“I… don’t think that’s necessary,” I said, laughing nervously. But inside, I was secretly grateful for the idea.

“It is necessary. We don’t want that annoying man inte

“If you’re a blogger or a paparazzo, you’ve got the wrong person,” Angela cut in smoothly, to defend me,after seeing I was helpless at that time.“We’re not doing interviews. Sorry.” “Ms.Charlotte, please, just hear me out for thirty seconds,” he said quickly, his hands held up peacefully. “I have a professional proposal. This could be a real chance for you to finally act. Not on reality TV. In a film.” My heart stuttered,a traitorous leap of hope I immediately tried to stifle. “What?”I whispered, the word almost lost in the thrum of the bass. “My name is Marcus,”he continued, leaning in slightly so I could hear. “I have a connection with Zaki Films. I can show you proof. The director is actively looking for a beautiful, fuller-figured female actor for a leading role in a short film. It’s a drama. He pays well, and he’s respectful. I’d like to recommend you.” He pulled a shiny, matte black business card from his jacket and handed it to me. I didn’t even glance at it.My chest ti

So I asked Angela to take me to the club again. Shamelessly. Not because I wanted to party—God,no—but because my mind wouldn’t stop spiraling. The more I sat alone in that house alone, the louder the whispers in my head became. That woman from the livestream… the way people were speculating, analyzing bodies, faces, voices. Somewhere between logic and fear, a ridiculous, invasive thought took root and refused to let go. What if she was one of my twin sisters? What if it happened again just like Jun ? I can't seem to point out any suspicious moves from Leo towards them at the family reunion yet my brain and my heart were no longer on speaking terms, and the club’s pulsating noise felt like the only thing loud enough to drown out the chaos inside. Angela, to her credit, didn’t ask questions. She just nodded, swapped her sweatpants for a killer black jumpsuit, and drove us to the club with my car. Once inside, however, she fully stepped into mother-and-protector mode. She slap

“Angela, give it back!”“Only if you admit it’s amazing.”“But I already did! I said it’s amazing,” I insisted, seizing the plate as she loosened her grip.We ended up sitting on opposite ends of the couch, the last echoes of laughter hanging in the air as we shared the cake like kids who’d just gotten away with something.“It tastes so good,” I said again, savoring another bite. “Where did you even get this?”Angela smiled proudly. “My boyfriend baked it.”I froze mid-bite. “Wait—he baked this?”“Yep,” she said, clearly enjoying my reaction. “It was his first time trying. Growing up, they had maids and men weren’t allowed in the kitchen. He said that's how it is in some traditional African households. So… he learned from a YouTube channel and made it by himself. I can’t believe how talented he is. A first timer?! I was blown away.”I blinked. “Wow, that’s some next-level gift. You’d think it was made by a professional.”She laughed. “He is a professional heart-stealer, so I suppose

I clenched my fists tightly. "I don't want to eat," I insisted, the words tight in my throat. "When I'm this down, I just... eat more. And then I get bigger. And if he ever sees me again, he’ll just be thankful he got out when he did." A hot wave of tears blurred my vision. "He said it didn’t matter. He said he loved me this way. So why, Angela? Why go for someone who’s everything I’m not? It makes me feel like the biggest fool on earth for ever believing him when he said he loved my body. I was just a convenient experiment." Angela set the cake box down on the glass table and her voice softened, wrapping around me like a blanket. "Honey, Leo is a chapter you need to burn, not reread. Who cares if he runs off with a yoga instructor or an alien from Mars? His choices are a reflection of him, not you. I know it hurts knowing you were played, but hey—you dated a man most of us couldn’t even dream of. Not because I wouldn’t jump at the chance, but because I’m not that girl. You are

It had been three days since then. Three quiet, expensive days. My new house was already filled with the most luxurious furniture money could buy—plush couches, glass tables, soft rugs that felt unreal beneath my feet. I hadn’t bought them because I needed them. I’d bought them out of anger, and because I wanted his attention. It was the perfect trap to ask him questions about that strange woman. I had expected him to block the card. Or at least call me. Yell at me. Demand answers. But he did neither. Which, unfortunately for him, meant more spending for me. I sat on the couch with my laptop balanced on my knees, scrolling through an audition post. Then my eyes landed on the description—the venue and date. Tuesday, I thought. Should I give it a shot? Before I could think more about it, the doorbell rang. My heart jumped. What if it’s Leo? What if he’s finally come to arrest me for stealing? I frowned. That didn’t make sense—he had no idea about my new house, or even the ad

For a second, I couldn’t move. My fork hovered uselessly above my plate. The food I’d been enjoying only moments ago now looked cold and distasteful. I had lost my appetite. This is all my fault. The thought settled heavily in my chest. I stared at the doorway near the staircase as their arguments continued loudly. “—had no right to slap me—” “—you are a bitch!—” “—Emma, calm down—” “—don’t tell me to calm down!” My stomach twisted painfully. Then I heard something break, followed by cries. They were getting physical. I pushed my chair back slowly and stood, my legs shaky. I am the problem. They were happy before me. Olive was angry because Emma compared me to her. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. I didn’t even know Olive was hurting so much that she would hit Emma. My throat tightened. Why does everything about me turn sad? I should go and say something to them. I can’t just sit here and leave Angela trying to separate them. But I couldn’t m
