DON CARLITO’S POV

Today, the clouds were pouring down on us. The endless sparks and flashes of the lightning, followed by the incessant drum rolls of thunder strikes, took over the morning here in Draymoor.

I sat in my study, leaning backward in my collapsible chair, my legs crossed on the table, swirling with a glass of alcohol in my left hand while a thin smoke from my cigarette, fixed in between my fingers on the right, curled upward before disappearing into the air.

I watched as beads of rain slid down the window. Tall trees far beyond dancing to the tune of the wave. All these did little to calm the storm in my mind. Every second that passed, I lost millions of dollars to Marcos Gonzalez, and it hurts.

JAKE'S POVA soft knock on the door yanked me back to my mind from my afternoon siesta. I had been thinking of Gregory's revelation about my mum and my step-brother, which was confirmed after I saw one of Pandora’s letters in my late mum’s box. I didn't realize when I slept through my thoughts.“You can come in!” I answered in a groggy and hoarse tone. My voice, still cracking from the long sleep. The door softly creaked open, and Charlie walked in. His face reeked with fear. “You don't have to act like you just stepped into a hanging room, waiting to be executed. Ease off, man!” I pulled off my duvet, sliding my feet into my slippers.“Good afternoon, Your Grace! I apologize for disrupting your rest. Maybe I could return later,” he said, leaning in a bow.“Come off it! What do you have for me? Are there any developments?” I queried, raking my hands through my hair in front of my dressing mirror. “God! I look so messy, I think I need a haircut,” I muttered under my breath before shift

DAMON’S POV“Thank you so much, sir. I'd get the shipments out tomorrow morning, so it would get to seaports on or before 9 a.m.,” I responded to Jake, putting together the paperwork of our client’s coal order.“Alight, Damon, I am super exhausted. I'd be retiring for the day. Endeavor to let me know when you send them out to the seaport tomorrow,” Jake said in a low tone, sluggishly pulling his suit jacket along with him.I hurriedly cleared the table, leaving to do one last security check before heading home. The moon was out, though not bright, but enough to cast dim light in the dark. I made my way to the courtyard as I strolled to the security post, when I heard hushed voices coming from the corner.Who are those? And why are they gathered there gossiping instead of carrying out their routine sweep check across the pack house? That should be Charlie's voice I'm hearing. Perhaps, he is giving them instructions as one of the head security guards in the pack.I shrugged it off, abou

AEMOND'S POVI ran my fingers over the silver edge of the picture frame I held, staring down at it with emotions running through my veins. The beautiful smile of my mother, Pandora. Every moment, I missed her. The pain of her having to suffer till death after she was banished for having me without a mate.I had sworn to avenge her, and so far, everything is falling into place. It was just a matter of time, and justice would be served, and I'd claim what is mine. Reaching for the other item in the box beside me was a heartbreaking note she wrote to my father, but never got a chance to deliver it. “I swear to you, mother, I will fight till the very end, and I'd make sure I get what was rightfully yours. I'd make them pay for every tear you cried!” I growled beneath my breath, clutching tight on the frame in my left hand and the letter in my right hand.I hesitated a bit before neatly tucking them back into the box I had kept them. Moments like this one made my heart bleed. Thoughts of

ELDER GREGORY’S POV“What the hell did you just say?” Jake barked at me, his tone dripping venom- I was sure he would have punched my face if I were a younger version of me. “Give me a reason why I should believe any word you just said to me?” he continued. “My mother never kept anything from me. So tell me why I should believe what you,” Jake spat, banging the table in front of me.I hesitated, allowing him to vent his frustration. “Look here Jake, all I did was respect your parents' wishes! All I did was be the loyal Beta to your father, Alpha Julian! It wasn't my place to spill the beans here. Get that straight!” I rose to my feet, returning the aura. I stared him squarely in the face, setting things straight.I watched as the rage in Jake’s eyes flickered at that point giving way for brokenness to surface. His shoulder collapsed as he slumped back into his seat. “Look here man, I understand what it feels right now for you figuring this out. But I can’t sit back and watch a war e

JAKE’S POVI groggily woke up to my phone ringing, pulling me up from the moment of peace I had, away from the harsh reality that I had just lost the one person that meant everything to me. I slowly peeled my eyes open, blinking into the bright light till my room came into focus. I ran my hands across the sheets till I reached my phone, which was under my pillow. The call ended immediately.I sat up, rubbing my eyes when I spotted Lyra lying on the couch opposite me with her legs crossed, fiddling with her phone. “How long have I been out?” I asked in a hoarse tone, going through my contact list.“Ohh! You’re awake now. You’ve been out for about an hour and a half or two,” Lyra responded, crossing over to the bed. “Two hours? And it felt like I had just closed my eyes for thirty minutes,” I quipped.Lyra sat next to me with a soft smile, looking into my face. “Why are you staring at me that way?” I chuckled softly with my brows knitted together in confusion.“Nothing,” She beamed. “I

JAKE’S POV"She's gone?" The news struck me like a sting from a fire ant. No! The maid must be out of her mind or something. I just left my mother an hour ago before coming down here. She was down, yeah! But not...not death. I scraped my seat backwards, scrambling up with my eyes popping out of their sockets in disbelief.“Damon, take Caspian back to his cell,” I said through clenched teeth, my eyes meeting Lyra as she stood breathless, racing off ahead of me. “How about...” Damon tried to speak, but I wasn't willing to listen to anything right now.“Now,” I barked at himHe nodded sharply, grabbing Caspian by the arm. Lyra was already ahead of me. I ran as fast as my legs could sprint, brushing off and pushing aside anybody who stood in my way."No..no...no, this better not be true," I whispered under my heavy breath, my heart drumming like a war drum into my ears. The door to her room was already open, and I barged into it, not pausing to knock like before. I was brought to a halt

LYRA’S POV"Help! Help!" I heard the sound of what seemed like distant echoes, distant cries coming from somewhere, far away. It sounded muffled or perhaps hollow, like they were coming through a tunnel. Maybe it was the distant cries of galagos, also known as bush babies. They were common in this area. But it came again, this time clearer, like it was right beside me. I sprang up from the shade I lay under, my senses spiking.Tara surged within me, restless as she sniffed the air, the soil. “Something's wrong,” she whispered. “Use my senses!”I shut my eyes, linking with her. I began to hear the faintest gush of the wind, the distant rustle of dry leaves, melodies, chants of birds building their nest, and every little movement here in the wild. Then I caught the scent- they were real people. I followed it until I found them.Down in a deep, dark pit—at least a dozen of them. Pale faces. Bloodied clothes. Children clinging to their mothers. One of them looked up and screamed, “Please

LYRA'S POVMy fist hurts as I pounded violently against Jake's chest. "Open that damn cage, Jake! Let him out!" I yelled, my voice came out rough with rage. Each word hitched with sharp breaths, my nails clawing at his shirt like they could peel reason into his heart. "You had no right! You can't just lock him up like an animal!" I kept thrashing and telling.Jake stood still, wincing from each hit I threw at him. Not a step backward. One would think he was planted at the spot. He clenched his jaw so tight that the muscles of his head twitched. His chest was rising and falling, but not in rhythm with mine. No words from him. Just utter silence that infuriated me even more."Say something! Do something! Don't you dare keep quiet on me, staring at me like I was some barking dog!" I yelled right in his face. So much, I bet he would have samples of my saliva in his eye. Then, with a suddenness that snapped me back, his hand clamped around my arm. Not harshly, but firm to keep me still. "E
