Chapter 5. Prophecy

He was not an Alpha. He didn't want to be an Alpha, even if the pack asked him to be one. He was Walter Gerard. The most respected man in Freemega. He was the father of the pack. He guards, protects, strategizes, divides tasks, gives directions, and makes decisions. Everyone respected and obeyed him.

"Quickly put out the fire! Get the kids into the house and turn off the light! Lance, go with Bryan! Keep an eye on him! If he makes it through Wolfsbane Gate, report to me immediately!" Walter ordered.

"I'm on it," said Lance.

"Jeff, Mark, Bob! Prepare your weapons!" He ordered the others.

"Roger that," they replied.

Everyone seemed to be deftly performing their duties, while Ryn just stood there like a fool, watching it all in confusion.

"Albert. Is he really coming to attack Freemega? Is he after me?" thought Ryn.

Everyone was panicking, but they were able to do their part in an organized manner. Ryn scrolled through the scenery with guilt building up in her chest. They were such nice people. Ryn was afraid that she would cause them harm because of her carelessness.

"Is this what those visions mean?" she thought again. "No! Are they going to die because of me?" The girl was getting scared.

Ryn began to lose control. The horrible visions seemed to be cramming into her head, like lightning striking. Blood, screams, and corpses lying on the ground. Were they visions of the future? Was it a warning that she would bring disaster to the herd?

"No!" Ryn shook her head quickly.

It all felt too much. The girl pressed her chest due to her choked breath. Her net moved restlessly at the sight of people running around. Ryn opened her jaw and breathed with her mouth as her chest grew tight.

"I'll make them all die. No!" The girl was starting to have trouble handling her condition. Ryn stepped back unsteadily. The images pounded her defenses sadistically. The girl tripped and fell to the ground. She couldn't take it anymore. She was overwhelmed until everything turned dark. Ryn fainted.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Wolfsbane Gate, Albert stood in the darkness alone. His nets were flaming red, looking straight through the darkness along the vast expanse of wolfsbane plants. Then the man closed his eyes, deeply inhaling the scent of Ryn that lingered along the path he walked.

After standing in silence for some time, Albert turned around and left Wolfsbane Gate. The man returned to his palace with unsatisfied curiosity.

"Tell Jayden to meet me in the library!" Albert ordered one of his wolves.

The man didn't break stride and went straight to the library. He went to one of the shelves, then opened the secret door behind the shelf. Albert went in there and took a notebook from a drawer. After that, he came out and sat at the table while pointing the reading lamp at the book in front of him. He unfolded the worn sheets of paper one by one and read them carefully.

"Come on, there must be something in this book," he monologued.

Not long after, the library door opened.

"Were you looking for me?" asked Jayden.

Albert, who was sitting behind the desk, raised his eyes.

"Close the door!" he ordered.

Obediently, Jayden closed the door and walked over to Albert. He sat on the chair opposite the Alpha. His gaze fell on an old notebook in front of the Alpha.

"I haven't seen that book in a while," Jayden joked, pointing at it with his chin.

The book Jayden was referring to was the notebook belonging to Christian Dexter, Albert's father, who was the previous Alpha of the Golden Moon Pack.

"I'm trying to find out about the prophecy. I'm pretty sure my dad knows more than he's telling me," Albert said.

Jayden's face instantly turned serious. He straightened his back and placed one hand on the table.

"You mean... Bloodwolf?" Jayden asked.

Albert looked at Jayden for a moment and then nodded his head.

Shortly before Christian died, the man told Albert about a disturbing prophecy. The prophecy said that the Golden Moon Pack's Alpha Mate was a catastrophe. The mate would bring death to the Alpha. Not many knew about the prophecy. Christian was very guarded about this secret. It was a curse and a weakness. He did not want other packs to use the prophecy to destroy the Golden Moon Pack.

One message Christian told Albert before he breathed his last was, "Find your mate and kill her!"

"Did you find your mate?" asked Jayden.

Albert was silent for a while. He then closed his eyes for a moment while taking a deep breath. The girl's scent was still so strong, as if it continued to linger in his sense of smell. Albert glanced at Jayden and shook his head.

"I need more information about the prophecy. I need to find it soon," Albert said.

They didn't have much information. All they knew was that the girl was born just as the red moon phenomenon was at its peak.

"We've searched all over Wolfspring, but we haven't gotten any results yet." Jayden stopped talking because he remembered something. Then he raised his gaze and said, "Mave Hendrick. Do you remember what the old man said about the great power that would destroy you? I think he knows something about that prophecy."

"He's an old man who likes to brag. His words can't be trusted," Albert said.

"Maybe so, but I found some notes about... seers!" Jayden exclaimed as he snapped his fingers, remembering something. "They must have known about the prophecy," he continued.

"It'll be a little hard to find their whereabouts. Seers can foresee impending danger. They can anticipate and leave before we get to them. They consider our kind a threat, you remember that," Albert said.

Jayden shook his head with a sigh.

"What's your plan?" asked Jayden.

"I'm thinking about it," Albert replied. The man paused for a moment and then asked, "Do you think there is life in Wolfsbane Hill?"

The question caught Jayden's attention. The man squinted and replied, "Other than werewolves, of course. Did you hear anything about that place?"

"The girl we met in the woods—I smelled her scent not far from Wolfsbane Hill," Albert explained.

"That girl! She's human, isn't she? Oh, no, don't tell me she's the girl in the prophecy!" said Jayden.

"No, she's not. I feel something strong about that girl, but I'm pretty sure she's not my mate," Albert said.

"Maybe she's not an ordinary human. Maybe she has special abilities or something. And if that's the case, I think we need to check out Wolfsbane Hill," Jayden said, sounding like he shared Albert's thoughts.
