LOGINMiaAs the car pulled into the driveway, I looked at the house I used to be familiar with and all of a sudden, I almost wanted nothing to do with it. I was happy to walk back into Jonathan’s life, but after telling him who I was, I suddenly wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. The car halted and everyone climbed down. One of the staff carried my bag inside and the first person I met at the front door was Lydia. “Oh how I’ve missed you Mrs. Mysterio..” she sighed, tilting her head to the side as her lips curved into a bright smile. I held out my hand and pulled her into a warm hug. If there was anyone who genuinely cared about me, it was Lydia. “I missed you too Lydia…. Especially because I’ve really not had any good meals in a long time.” I laughed and she tapped my back slightly. “Good thing I made your favorite.” She responded, walking me into the house. The sweet aroma of pasta and chicken sauce filled my nose. I drooled as she led me into the dining room, the table was
Jonathan I dropped back into the bench, chin held up by my clenched fists as my mind spiraled. Something shifted inside of me after hearing Mia’s confession. I’d never imagined that a day would come when my past would haunt me this much. I thought I was doing us both a favor by ending things with her. I never knew I was just selfish. My head felt heavy as I exhaled in exasperation. Nothing made sense to me anymore. Now I understand why she didn’t have a life before we met… her father wiped everything off. But what exactly was the reason for getting married to me under a different identity? What was the need for that gun? Sneaking around in the shadows? Meeting with strange people? Getting kidnapped and all that was taken somehow turned out to be her phone?I grunted in frustration as I grabbed a handful of my hair and yanked it until my scalp felt sore. I stood from the bench and walked back to the house, this entire place was starting to suffocate me. George was the first person
MiaJonathan gently pulled his lips away from mine, his gaze dropping wearily on my face. “What’s the matter?” I asked as he let go of my hands. I watched his lips open to speak but he swallowed his words again. After a few seconds, he cleared his throat and stood up straight, adjusting his shirt. “Uhmm… I have something to ask you, but I need you to be honest with me..” he started. My heart dropped heavily into my stomach instantly. I could hear the loud pounding in my chest like my heart was about to leap out and run away. I lowered my eyes, took a deep breath and lifted my face once again. Maybe today might just happen to be the day when I tell Jonathan everything there is to know about me and about why I’m here with another face after three years of separating from him. “Go ahead and ask..” I sighed and he nodded. “Mia… what is your real name?” I swallowed hard. My father’s voice echoed in my head and I tried to shut it out but it only grew louder. And then came Collins.
MiaI woke up to the noise of a busy house and I slowly sat up on the bed, stretching my arms high above me. The tenderness I once felt around my back and waist was going away faster than I thought. As I climbed down from the bed and wrapped myself inside my bathrobe, the first thing my mind thought of was Collins and how far he’d gone with tracking my phone. I brushed and went downstairs to see what was for breakfast but as I approached the dining room, the aroma I expected to greet me wasn’t there. I knew something was off but I pushed the door anyway. All that welcomed me was a king sized loaf of bread, some peanut butter spread and plain milk. “Where’s breakfast?” I asked just to make sure this wasn’t what I’d be eating this morning. The nurse lifted her head from the coffee maker, scanned the table and turned her face to me. “Would you prefer coffee?” She asked blankly. My face twisted in fury as I ran my fingers through my hair. Now I missed Lydia because she would never w
MiaMy fists clenched as I held my breath hoping he wouldn’t have more questions for me because I was already running out of answers for him. “Well…” Jonathan exhaled and stood from the bed, “I’ll just leave you to keep resting so I don’t stress your brain any further..” I nodded, putting up a faint smile as he walked towards the door. He paused, glanced over his shoulder and smiled wryly at me, “thank you for being honest with me..” My head almost exploded. Why would he try to guilt trip me like that? My eyes twitched and I forced myself to nod and keep smiling. Only after he left was I able to actually breathe properly. I gasped for air, running my fingers through my hair. Jonathan might actually be onto me if care is not taken, because he’ll definitely go home, check his study and of course he won’t find anything related to his cabin or his brother. But before then I must have come up with another excuse. For now, I needed to focus on reaching Collins. A knock on the door int
MiaI almost fell into a coma. Panic burst through my veins as my entire body broke out in cold sweat. “Uhmm..” “That’s not an answer Mia..” Jonathan growled, slowly getting up from the bed like he was frightened by my presence. “Jonathan I mistook you for one of my friends, I thought we had that conversation. I guess the trauma probably just messed up my brain.” A nervous laughter rippled through the air. He stared at me long and hard, doubt obviously etched on his face. I watched him pace back and forth, his hands tucked away in his pockets as a smile plastered on his face. “Mia, I won’t ask you again. And this time, if you still choose to lie to me, it’ll be the last conversation we both will ever have until this contract is over..” he warned. Something about the way his voice sounded made me shudder. Sweat trickled down my face, my heart pounded loudly in my ears. It almost felt like it would rip through my chest and explode. “Jonathan…” “Don’t take my words for bluff. I w
Mia povAs the limo pulled over in the driveway, I helped muskets down because I knew Jonathan wasn’t going too. Usually, he would have darted into his room immediately but when I walked to the front door, he was still standing by it. He lifted his sharp eyes from his phone and scanned my face lik
Jonathan“Why did you let him in here?” I asked my assistant and he lowered his head. “He didn’t let me in… I found my way here because you weren’t at home when I arrived. So I just assumed you’d be here because mum and dad were so benevolent to have willed this house to you..” I pinched the spac
MiaDragging my sore leg back into my room was a bit of a hassle, given that the cut was a bit deep. But as I slammed my door shut, I quickly took off my clothes and climbed into my bed, burying myself inside the pile of pillows. “I hate this feeling..” I whispered loud enough for only my ears. I
Mia My appetite disappeared the minute he walked out the door, so I just pushed the plate aside. He didn’t regard me as anything, yet he wouldn’t let me be on my own. What on earth did he possibly want?My phone buzzed, and I glanced at the time before opening the text message that came in, 10 a.m
