MiaJonathan gently pulled his lips away from mine, his gaze dropping wearily on my face. “What’s the matter?” I asked as he let go of my hands. I watched his lips open to speak but he swallowed his words again. After a few seconds, he cleared his throat and stood up straight, adjusting his shirt. “Uhmm… I have something to ask you, but I need you to be honest with me..” he started. My heart dropped heavily into my stomach instantly. I could hear the loud pounding in my chest like my heart was about to leap out and run away. I lowered my eyes, took a deep breath and lifted my face once again. Maybe today might just happen to be the day when I tell Jonathan everything there is to know about me and about why I’m here with another face after three years of separating from him. “Go ahead and ask..” I sighed and he nodded. “Mia… what is your real name?” I swallowed hard. My father’s voice echoed in my head and I tried to shut it out but it only grew louder. And then came Collins.

MiaI woke up to the noise of a busy house and I slowly sat up on the bed, stretching my arms high above me. The tenderness I once felt around my back and waist was going away faster than I thought. As I climbed down from the bed and wrapped myself inside my bathrobe, the first thing my mind thought of was Collins and how far he’d gone with tracking my phone. I brushed and went downstairs to see what was for breakfast but as I approached the dining room, the aroma I expected to greet me wasn’t there. I knew something was off but I pushed the door anyway. All that welcomed me was a king sized loaf of bread, some peanut butter spread and plain milk. “Where’s breakfast?” I asked just to make sure this wasn’t what I’d be eating this morning. MiaMy fists clenched as I held my breath hoping he wouldn’t have more questions for me because I was already running out of answers for him. “Well…” Jonathan exhaled and stood from the bed, “I’ll just leave you to keep resting so I don’t stress your brain any further..” I nodded, putting up a faint smile as he walked towards the door. He paused, glanced over his shoulder and smiled wryly at me, “thank you for being honest with me..” My head almost exploded. Why would he try to guilt trip me like that? My eyes twitched and I forced myself to nod and keep smiling. Only after he left was I able to actually breathe properly. I gasped for air, running my fingers through my hair. Jonathan might actually be onto me if care is not taken, because he’ll definitely go home, check his study and of course he won’t find anything related to his cabin or his brother. Panic burst through my veins as my entire body broke out in cold sweat. “Uhmm..” “That’s not an answer Mia..” Jonathan growled, slowly getting up from the bed like he was frightened by my presence. “Jonathan I mistook you for one of my friends, I thought we had that conversation. I guess the trauma probably just messed up my brain.” A nervous laughter rippled through the air. He stared at me long and hard, doubt obviously etched on his face. I watched him pace back and forth, his hands tucked away in his pockets as a smile plastered on his face. “Mia, I won’t ask you again. And this time, if you still choose to lie to me, it’ll be the last conversation we both will ever have until this contract is over..” he warned. Something about the way his voice sounded made me shudder. Sweat trickled down my face, my heart pounded loudly in my ears. MiaI sat up on the bed, trying to figure out what to do but even my body was way too tired to do anything at the moment. I just tucked myself back under my sheets and allowed myself to sleep. The warm morning sun rested on my bare face, forcing me to get up from my slumber. I stirred on the bed, trying to continue from where I stopped but the thought of that article jolted me down from the bed. I sat up, stretching my arms until a loud crack sliced through the morning’s silence. There was nobody else in the room, not even the nurse. So I quickly ran a bath, changed into a floral dress and headed downstairs immediately, while still trying to be as quiet as possible. I needed to get out of here by all means and reach Collins because he could at least track that phone. I heard clanging of plates and pots in the kitchen, so I just assumed the nurse was in there.
