(VINCENZO'S POV)

“I'll make them pay for what they have done to her” I gritted as I watched Marianna from across the hall, noting how the dark circles under her eyes are slowly becoming more visible.

Her hair was a bit messy with some strangs falling to her face. She looked like a walking ghost

My phone vibrated in my pocket which I pulled out to reveal a contact I'd been waiting for.

"I'll be back in a few hours," I told Anna, grabbing my keys from the desk.

The rain beat my windshield as I drove across town to the abandoned warehouse district and I pulled up beside a black SUV

A man stepped out, flanked by two guards. Salvatore Donati.

"Vincenzo," he said. "Never thought I'd see you crawling to us."

I kept my expression neutral. "Yet here you are waiting for that chance."

We stood under the warehouse overhang, the sound of rain creating a barrier of white noise that would mask our conversation from any listening devices.

I explained Marianna's issue as I slid a folder across the

(VINCENZO'S POV) I left Marianna in my room, locking the door behind me and I pulled out my phone to dial a number I'd been saving for this moment. He answered on the third ring. "Salvatore Donanti speaking.""I've been expecting your call," I said, my voice deliberately casual. "We need to meet. The Canary Wharf pier. One hour."A pause. "Very well."By the time I arrived at the pier, the sun was above the Thames, blanketing the entire place with heat. Salvatore was already there, leaning against the railing, smoke curling from his cigarette. He looked deceptively ordinary in his tailored suit despite being the heir to the Donati dynasty."Vin," he greeted me, not bothering to extinguish his cigarette. "Quite the show your Kingwicke girl gave us this morning.” I kept my expression neutral. "Not as much as your man Rodriguez did." I said sarcastically “He gave a damn good show”Salvatore scoffed, flicking ash into the water. "I'm only doing what I was paid to do.""Guess the Pearso

(MARIANNA'S POV) I winced as Vin helped me out of the car, my body aching with each movement. The familiar facade of the mansion offered little comfort given the night's event. Maria rushed out to the driveway, her eyes widening at the sight of my bandaged head."Miss Marianna! What happened?" she gasped, wringing her hands. Before I could answer, Vin stepped in. "Maria, prepare breakfast. Something light." His tone left no room for questions."Of course, sir. Right away." She hurried back inside, casting worried glances over her shoulder.Vin's hand rested at the small of my back, guiding me through the grand entryway. The television in the living room caught my attention, the morning news was on, volume low.I froze mid-step. My face stared back at me from the screen. The headline scrolled beneath: "Heiress Suspected in Journalist's Murder."That explains Maria's worry. "No," I whispered, moving closer. "That's impossible." The reporter's voice grew louder as Vin increased the

(VINCENZO'S POV) I strode away from the car, leaving Marianna behind as I made my way toward the burning warehouse as smoke filled the night air My men spotted me approaching and straightened immediately."What the hell happened?" I demanded, keeping my voice low but unable to hide my fury.Marcos stepped forward, his face smeared with soot. "Boss, we were questioning him just like you ordered until a fucking explosion occurred," Rodriguez cut in. "Back of the warehouse. We barely made it out."I pinched the bridge of my nose. "And Kline?"They exchanged glances. "Dead before the fire. Throat slit.""Son of a bitch," I hissed. "Someone got to him first. This wasn't an accident.""Boss," Marcos said quietly, "what about the journalist's body?""Leave it," I replied. "We have no business with it…. ""Vin!" I whipped around to see Marianna rushing toward us, panicking."I told you to stay in the car," I growled, grabbing her arm to steady her.She was breathing hard. "Someone was w

  • BOUND TO LOVE MY ENEMY   CHAPTER 25 — UNPLANNED REUNION

(MARIANNA'S POV) The plan was simple, stay for a few minutes and leave. But why is Sophia trying to make it much more complicated? “So glad you could make it” she smiled “We've only just started so came at the right time. We have alot of catching up to do."She glided toward me, her expensive perfume arriving before she did, fortunately Sandra stepped between us, blocking her from getting closer to me “This is a reunion for school mates” "Actually, I'm Marianna's plus one tonight." Sandra chipped in, making Sophia roll her eyes "Funny," Tyler interjected, appearing at Sophia's side. "Marianna turned me down when I asked her to be mine. Now she shows up anyway?"I ignored him, moving toward the table with as much dignity as I could muster. The group parted to make room, whispers following in my wake.Jessica's cousin Elaine, a former bully, leaned across the table. "So, what have you been up to lately, Marianna? Besides the obvious... issues." She gestured vaguely. "Sophia's been

  • BOUND TO LOVE MY ENEMY   CHAPTER 24 — THE DAY GETS WORSE

(MARIANNA'S POV) I dragged myself across the parking garage, each step heavy with exhaustion. Vin laid me off work two hours earlier and it still feel like I worked a double shift. The allegations had worn me down, chipping away at my resolve day by day."Boo!" I screamed, keys flying from my hand. Sandra jumped out from behind a concrete pillar, laughing."God, Sandra! You nearly gave me a heart attack," I gasped, clutching my chest. Her smiled "Sorry, I couldn't let it pass” she studied me “You look terrible.""You don't say," I muttered, retrieving my keys.Without warning, she wrapped me in a tight hug. The unexpected warmth made my eyes sting."Do you have a lawyer handling this mess?" she asked, releasing me.I shook my head. "What's the point? This goes beyond legal action. The people behind this are probably too powerful.""Probably," Sandra said firmly, snatching my car key off my grip "I know someone from Sullivan and Brooks who can help."My stomach clenched. That's wher

  • BOUND TO LOVE MY ENEMY   CHAPTER 23 — PREDATOR BECOMES THE PREY

(SOPHIA'S POV) I drummed my fingers on my desk, thinking deeply on what to do next. His threat echoing in my mind like a broken record. Who would have thought Vin would approach me with a threat as though I'm a stranger to him? My eleven o'clock meeting had passed in a blur so much so I couldn't even remember what was discussed."Thomas," I called through the intercom. "Come to my office. Now."He appeared moments later, notepad in hand. "Yes, Ms. Kingwicke?""I need background information on Vin Lombardo. Everything you can find. Weaknesses, secrets, scandals, anything we can use."Thomas's face drained of color. "I—I don't think I can do that, Ms. Kingwicke.""Excuse me?" I narrowed my eyes."Vin Lombardo is..." Thomas swallowed hard. "The man has eyes everywhere. He would know I was looking into him before I even get past the surface level. And he would..." He dragged a finger across his throat."Are you serious?" I scoffed bitterly."Deadly." Thomas's eyes darted nervously to

  • BOUND TO LOVE MY ENEMY   CHAPTER 22 — THE SWEET TASTE OF REVENGE

(SOPHIA'S POV) I open my eyes and stretch my arms above my head, feeling the silken sheets slide against my skin. A smile spreads across my face as sunlight streams through the curtains I forgot to close last night."Another perfect day," I whispered to myself as I sat up and reached for my phone on the nightstand.Three missed calls from Niccolò. My heart fluttered with excitement as I traced my finger over his name. Having the most powerful man in the city backing my plans to destroy Marianna felt like divine intervention.“The look on her face will be priceless” I smiled “I wish I could see it. Should I go see her after work?” I pressed my feet into the plush carpet and walked to the window, pushing the curtains fully open. The green garden stretched farther from the building she was in, decorated with colourful ornaments and outdoor sculptures. All these will soon be completely mine, once Marianna is out of the picture. My phone buzzed in my hand."Niccolò," I answered, unab

(MARIANNA'S POV) I clutched the towel tighter around my body, staring in disbelief at the contents of the wardrobe. “What are they up to?” I asked as I picked up a thin layered nightwear “Do they expect me to wear this?” Sheer nightgowns and lacy lingerie hung in neat rows, not a single practical sleeping garment in sight. I slammed the door shut at the sound of someone entering the room and swung my head at the door."How long have you been standing there?" I asked, startled to find Vin leaning against the door frame."Long enough." His eyes traveled from my wet hair to my bare shoulders. "My private meeting with my uncle was brief.""I didn't expect you back so soon." I shifted uncomfortably under his gaze “Well, at least, not until I go to sleep” Vin crossed the room with determined strides. "What were you complaining about?"I blocked his path to the wardrobe. "Nothing important." I said “It's not for you to concern yourself with” "Then you won't mind if I see for myself." H
