(MARIANNA'S POV)

My head throbbed as I opened my eyes, the room spinning like I was still underwater. Fragments of memory flashed of my struggle and how certain I was that I'm going to die.

Have I gone back in time again like before? I looked around, clearly noting that I was still not in my bedroom.

I blinked hard, trying to orient myself, slowly realizing that I was still at the Lombardos estate.

There, sprawled on the too-small couch beneath the window, was Vin. He was asleep.

I pushed myself up despite the protest of every muscle and slipped from the bed, my bare feet silent against the cool marble floor as I approached him.

This was actually my first time seeing him soundly asleep. Had he always been this peaceful in his sleep?

I noticed beads of sweat dotting his forehead, dampening the dark curls that had fallen across his brow, and wondered if he was sick.

He seemed like a light sleeper, so I couldn't place my hand on his head to check his temperature. I have to get something

(SOPHIA'S POV) I watched Charlotte's face carefully as she processed my words, surprised by how quickly I was able to persuade her. I thought she was going to make it difficult for me after my first encounter with her. So glad she was on board so easily that my entire plan to try persuading her completely faltered “What's the plan?” she asked me, leaning forward across the small café table with intense interest. Perfect. I kept my expression neutral, though inside I was celebrating."There's an important dinner you'll be attending with Niccolò, right?” She raised an eyebrow. “What's this about?” I'm sure she's wondering how I knew"The key is that you need to connect with her,” I pulled out my phone and showed her the screen “Her name is Elena Armstrong. She is actually an old classmate of Marianna's from their school days.” I looked at Charlotte to see if I got her attention and I did. Charlotte studied the photo intently. "I'm listening."Someone who never liked Marianna's gut

  • BOUND TO LOVE MY ENEMY   CHAPTER 59 — THE WEIGHT OF CHAINS

(CHARLOTTE'S POV) I ran my fingers over the delicate sapphire necklace, watching how the stones caught the afternoon light streaming through my office windows. The jewelry pieces my staff had brought gleamed against the black velvet display cloth, each one more exquisite than the last.“Are these all the recent custom made ones?” I asked one of my staff and she nodded “We sold of the very last one from the previous set few days ago” I nodded, my eyes not leaving them. Business has been going well so far and very soon, I'll be rich enough to get my life back, hopefully, with Vin in it"This one's perfect," I murmured, lifting a diamond bracelet with intricate platinum detailing. The client had specifically requested something that would make a statement, something worthy of the considerable sum they were paying."Ma'am?" Rebecca, my assistant, stepped forward with eager eyes."Package this one," I said, handing her the bracelet. "Use the midnight blue box with the gold ribbon. And

  • BOUND TO LOVE MY ENEMY   CHAPTER 58 — LEO'S VISIT

(MARIANNA'S POV) My heart skipped a beat when I spotted the familiar figure approaching us. I squeezed Vin's arm instinctively, a smile spreading across my face."Who is that?" Vin asked, his brow furrowing slightly."Leo!" I called out, waving excitedly. I turned to my husband, eyes bright with unexpected joy. "It's my cousin, Leonardo.""Your cousin?" Vin's voice carried a note of suspicion. "You never mentioned he was coming to visit.""I had no idea he was coming either!" I stated. When we got down, I was assisted down from the chopper and watched Leo dropped his bags to pull me in a tight embrace. "Mari! Look at you.""What are you doing here?" I pulled back, holding him at arm's length to get a good look at him. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming?""Where would be the fun in that?" Leo winked. "Besides, I wanted to see this grand house and famous husband of yours without any rehearsed introductions."Vin approached, extending a hand that seemed more obligatory than welco

  • BOUND TO LOVE MY ENEMY   CHAPTER 57 — THE HUNT AND THE HUNTED

(VINCENZO'S POV) The deer disappeared into the underbrush as I lowered my rifle. "We should head back to the rendezvous point," Rosa suggested, checking her watch. "We're falling behind."“You guys should go ahead” I said, “I'm going to check up on Marianna”“Is she hurt?” asked Rosa but I simply ignored her as I walked back to where I had left Marianna but the oak tree she was leaning against was empty."Where is she?" I asked, scanning the surrounding woods.A cold feeling settled in my gut. Marianna didn't know these woods. I raced back to my teammates. “I can't find Marianna” I uttered "Spread out and find her. Now."They scattered without question. Rosa’s expression mirrored my own concern."She wouldn't have wandered off," Rosa said quietly. "Not on her own."We headed back toward the starting point, hoping she'd simply returned there. She wasn't. The hunting parties were starting to gather, comparing their kills, tallying scores. I scanned the crowd, looking for that famil

(MARIANNA'S POV) The world tilted. My hands flew up instinctively, fingers tangling in the fabric of his shirt as shock rippled through me. The way he kissed me felt like discovering fire. Soft at first, tentative, then growing bolder when I didn't pull away.Heat bloomed in my chest, spreading outward until my skin felt too tight. I'd imagined this moment countless times in secret, but reality was overwhelming, the weight of him above me, the taste of champagne still lingering on his lips, the way his thumb brushed against my cheek. His hand moved lower, fingers finding the silk tie of my robe. The gentle tug made me gasp against his mouth, and suddenly the fog of sensation cleared. My pulse spiked for entirely different reasons."Wait," I breathed, catching his wrist. His skin was warm under my palm, his pulse as rapid as mine. "I….I'm not ready for this yet."Vin went completely still. For a heartbeat, I feared I'd ruined everything but then he lifted his head, and instead of ang
