"Why did you buy me?"

The question was soft, unsure and shaky, but it might as well have been a punch to the gut.

My eyes locked with Ruth's in the rear view mirror, she looked away immediately, shrugging like this was my problem only. Though technically, it was.

"I wanted you." My reply was vain and shallow, but it would have to do.

"But you didn't fuck me last night. Did I do something wrong?" The innocence in her voice was choking, like a rope wrapped around my throat.

"You didn't....don't do that again. That's not why I took you." The car window rolled down, the streets of Chicago flying by in a blur, the calm breeze hitting my face.

"But, that's what I'm for."

"And that's not why I took you." My knuckles paled from how hard my fist clenched. She leaned back, like she was trying to fade or blend into the leather seat of the car.

Her eyes were fixed on my clenched fists, glassy and somewhat wide. "I'm not going to hit you, Ariella." The pain of my nails digging into my palm gave way to relief when my fist unclenched.

The car drove to a halt at the entrance of the estate. A tall golden gate stood, connected to the concrete wall that went around the white, illuminated mansion where my whole life was based. Even through the gates the sound of the angel fountain that stood right infront of the golden steps attatched to the front door still rang in my ears

The gates parted, giving way for the car to drive in. Ariella was still pressed firmly into the seat when the car parked, sitting still and staring at her palms even after me and Ruth stepped out of the car.

Moving to the other side of the car, my hand closed around the handle of the door, pulling it open. She startled, looking up at me. "Come out, we're here."

She stepped out of the car keeping her head down. A warm hand wrapped around my wrist. She held it firmly, like it was a lifeline for her.

The guards pulled open the ivory front doors as we climbed the few steps to them. Ariella loosened from my side with every guard we approached. The tension never left her body and she didn't release my hand, but at least we were getting somewhere.

As soon as we were in though, the shrill shriek that greeted us though sent Ariella right back to the trembling being she'd been last night.

My head raised to the direction of the voice at the top of the spiral twin stairways that stood in the end of the waiting room, plain otherwise for the exotic paintings that hung from the white walls. My mother raced down, her gaze fixed on Ariella. Towards the bottom of the stairs she nearly slipped, her heels bent on the brown polished tiles, tangling into her silk red maxi dress. She barely managed to catch herself on the golden railings.

"Mother, stop running. You'll hurt yourself." My voice felt tight.

Her grey eyes glistened with unshed tears, ignoring me she approached Ariella. The girl was still pressed into me, peaking slightly at my mother. It would have been cute if it wasn't already so fucking heart breaking.

"Is this...really her?" Her voice shook, fingers trembling as they cupped Ariella's cheek gently. "Ella? It's really you." Her

"She's still in shock. We're not sure if it's her, but we'll take her to the hospital tomorrow, and make sure." Ruth chirped, eyeing me with her lips pursed.

"Is that even necessary?" My mother finally broke, pulling Ariella into a hug and running her fingers through her hair.

"I'm sorry. Did I do something wrong? I didn't mean to make you cry. Please, I'm sorry." Ariella's eyes were wide, her hand squeezing my wrist slightly.

"Oh, my little girl. What did they do to you?" Mother sniffled, holding her tighter. "It's ok. It's all over now. Let's get you settled."

"Where's dad?" His absence shouldn't have been a surprise to me. To think he would have jumped at the chance to see his possible missing daughter was just wishful.

"Your father had something to handle on short notice. Perhaps I should place a call to him? Let him know of your arrival." Ruth said, already reaching for her phone.

"Have the maids bring her things to the room we prepared. The one opposite mine." My eyes still hadn't left my mother hugging Ariella.

The words she'd said to me before I went to Vegas still rung in my head. 'If there's even the slightest chance that my little girl is alive, is living in some filthy brothel, you bring her back home to me. Bring her back and destroy the people who took her.'

As Ruth walked out giving orders to the maids, my mother finally released Ariella, using her fingers to brush her hair, her eyes raised to mine, smiling shakily. "Thank you. Thank you so much, Killian."

An ache built in my chest. My mother hadn't given me that much recognition since Stella went missing. The one bond we still shared apart from blood had been our obsession with finding Stella. And now there was a chance that it was gone.

My mother led her to the twin stairs, taking the one on the right to the bedrooms. Ruth shuffled back to my side, holding an old green backpack.

"That's all her stuff?" Not exactly shocking at this point.

"Yes sir. We can get her some clothes after we confirm she's truly miss Morozcov."

My eyebrows drew together into a frown. "We'll get her something regardless of the outcome. Give me the bag." Ruth's lips parted as she handed me the bag. The memory of my mother's relieved, overjoyed face echoed in my mind. "I need to go upstairs to check on them. Tomorrow's test...whatever the results are, let's just keep it to us, ok?"

"Sir, with all due respect, what are you asking me to do?" She eyed me warily.

"I'm saying that if she really isn't Stella, that information stays between us, not a soul more. Am I understood, Ruth?"

"I won't say a word to anyone boss." She said, stepping away from me. "Not a soul."

  • BOUND TO MY MAFIA KING   Epilogue, 105: KILLIAN

(*SEVEN years later.*)The announcer called my wife's name, proud as I stood to clap.Ariella stepped onto the stage, smiling widely while her graduation gown flowed seamlessly down her body. She received her diploma, shaking hands with all her supervisors before stepping off the stage and joining the other graduates. She was probably the oldest among them, but the light in her eyes never dwindled with each day she'd spent in this college. And now she'd finally gotten the rest of her dream."Wow! Mama looks so nice. Her clothes look funny." Nikolai giggled, clapping as he hopped on the chair he stood on so he could get a good view of his mom.Alina sat next to him, swinging her legs, unbothered by her surroundings and completely occupied with whatever it is that goes through the mind of a two-year-old.Nikolai was three years older and way more self-aware, but in that moment, he didn't seem to care if anyone saw him as he clapped loudly, chanting his mom's name.Alina, suddenly curiou

Killian guided me as I drove, my body stiff and panicked. My feet remained firmly planted on the brake, ready to slam down on it when necessary. And even when it wasn't necessary."Just accelerate a bit. You're not going to go too fast or anything, but we've been in this spot for almost an hour." He didn't sound tired of me, if anything it was like he couldn't get enough."You're the one who told me to drive. Maybe this was a mistake, let's swap seats back."He leaned down, planting a soft kiss on my lips. "Nothing about you is a mistake love. Never forget that. Now let's start."It took another hour before he'd taught me and sweet talked enough to get me moving the car. After a few minutes it wasn't nearly as bad as before. He guided me through turns and junctions until we came closer to the estate."I think she would have wanted this. Me being happy with the woman I love." He glanced at me, his eyes shining.I nodded in agreement, smiling slightly. The next few weeks were absolute b

The words were barely out of Anya's mouth before Kirilli exploded, ranting and insulting Killian. His words blended from English to Russian quickly, but even without understanding I knew whatever words came from his mouth weren't good.Killian gave no reaction, simply standing still while his father berated him.It wasn't until Kirilli reached for me that Killian shifted. It was so fast I almost missed it.Killian's hand wrapped around his father's throat, slamming him onto a wall and squeezing."Killian!" Anya's voice was high and panicked, eyes wide as Killian continued to choke Kirilli with murderous intent.I rushed forward, yanking at his arm to pull him away. My effort made no effect. "Killian, please stop this. This isn't the way. Don't let anyone else in your family die."He froze, glancing at me for a moment. His grip on Kirilli loosened enough for him to escape. We stood in a tense filled silence for a second, before the sound of a heavy slap echoed across the room.Anya gas

She didn't get pregnant.Even after I got her a pill and test, she kept tapping her foot on the ground, completely paranoid.I didn't expect to see her today. After all, she'd never agreed to come to the funeral with me.My parents had already gone ahead, leaving me behind at home alone. With no one to force me to go.A part of me didn't want to at all. Attending her funeral meant acknowledging that my sister was truly dead. That these past few years, all that hope I'd held on to was for nothing, and all because I was too late to fucking save her.A knock on my door pulled my attention away from the framed photo in my hands. An old picture of me and Stella back when my parents dumped me in the little league."I'm on my way down. Who is it?" I waited for Ruth to come in with the message that my parents demanded my immediate presence, or Alex and Dimitri walking in to give me their sympathy. To my surprise, though, the person who stepped through that door wasn't one of those people.Ar

  • BOUND TO MY MAFIA KING   CHAPTER 101: ARIELLA

We went into my apartment right after my panic attack settled. He was so gentle, so calm like he didn't just give me his name and everything else to make me feel complete."Why do you keep doing this? You could have anyone. Literally any woman you wanted. Why do you keep chasing me and making this choice impossible to keep to?" My voice cracked at the end, unable to continue."Because I don't want just anyone. I want you." He sat next to me on my tiny bed, wrapping his arms around my waist and planting a firm kiss in my hair. "No other woman makes me feel like you do. No other woman makes me want to burn the world for them like you do. No other woman can be you."My throat clogged, eyes glistening with tears I'd been too stubborn to allow to fall for years now. "And when you get bored? When you realise you could have had so much better."He laughed. Actually laughed like my words were a joke."Better? Where?" He could hardly strain together those two words through his obvious amusemen

  • BOUND TO MY MAFIA KING   CHAPTER 100: KILLIAN

Ariella and Michael had gone outside to talk in private, comparing stories about their past and discussing their future. They left me with Ariella's tiny roommate. Her appearance was fooling though. She was a monster in a small body."She really likes you, you know that right?" She said, taking a small sip from the mug in her hands. "Yeah, I'm aware. I just wish she'd admit it. Just one more time." I groaned, frustration threatening to make me lash out."It's about time you stop wishing and take some action. You're on the right track with finding her family...but all you're doing now is giving her love to others. Take your share first." My eyebrows curled in confusion. "My share?""Take her on dates, let her feel like she already has a boyfriend. It's not just about you, it's about her too. This is her story too." Samantha turned to face me."And how do I do that?"She sighed like I was completely hopeless. "Honestly? You're already doing it. Your corny lines, persistent presence a
