The door to the suite opened again.

Both women turned.

Theon stood there, a chart in his hand.

"Forgot my pen," he said blandly.

His eyes met Lena's. Just for a second too long.

Lena’s stomach tightened.

He retrieved a pen from the side table and walked toward the door. But before he crossed the threshold, he paused and glanced back.

"Lena." His voice was smooth. "I have something to discuss with you.”

Her breath hitched.

“Related to your father,” he added slowly, his smile deepening just sligh

Evelyn had completely forgotten about the Hayes family. After she chose to cut ties with them, she had blocked every possible means of communication. Calls, messages, emails—everything. As far as she was concerned, that chapter of her life was closed. And truthfully, life had been so… Roman lately that she hadn’t even noticed how little she thought about them anymore.Until now.For some reason, curiosity stirred in her chest.“What kind of news?” she asked again, leaning back into the couch. There was a brief pause on the other end of the call.“Well…” Lena began slowly. “You know Richard has been desperately trying to keep things afloat after the whole mess they created—which, by the way, you should honestly be grateful for.”Evelyn rolled her eyes. But she had to admit Lena wasn’t entirely wrong.Without the Hayes family’s betrayal and everything that followed, she might never have completely broken free from them.Lena continued.“Without the Sinclair connection, a lot of doors ju

Evelyn looked at him conflicted, her heart thumping loudly in her chest."But the board—your elder brother is back—the executives—" She shook her head, backing away. "No. No, Roman, this is insane. I can't just walk into Sinclair Industries and take over.""Why can't you?""Roman!" Her voice rose. "You're on sabbatical! How on earth are you going to just make a drastic decision like that without the board revolting? Without your brother using it against you?”"Evelyn." He caught her face in his hands, gentle but firm. "I'm Roman. And you're my wife. There's no harm in you handling the company."She stared at him, searching his face for any sign that this was a joke. There was none.He continued, his voice steady. "Yes, I was placed on sabbatical by my father. I can't go back. Not yet. But someone needs to be there. Someone who represents me.”Her breath grew heavy."You'd really trust me with your company?" she whispered."I'd trust you with my life." He brushed his thumb across her c

Evelyn avoided Roman’s stare as she broke the seal. The sound of tearing paper was unusually loud in the quiet room. Her fingers trembled slightly, unsure if it was nerves or anticipation. She walked back to her chair and slipped into it, pulling the documents out steadily. She skimmed through the papers in silence, then exhaled softly.“Well…” she began, still not looking at him. “A few months ago, I applied for a role at Sinclair Industries.”She paused, gathering her words. “Senior Strategic Analyst. In the corporate strategy division.”Roman’s brows lifted slightly.“I wanted to get in without anyone’s help,” she continued. “I knew how hard it was to get in—everyone knows that. The tests are brutal.”A small, humorless laugh escaped her.“But I… I tried anyway. At the time, Nathan was set to officially resume at the company. I thought…” She swallowed. “I thought it would be nice to work together. It was supposed to be a surprise.”Roman’s expression didn’t change, but his gaze sha

“Nine years?!” Evelyn repeated, pulling away from his embrace completely now. She turned to stare at him, her gaze complicated, disbelieving. She didn’t know what to feel. Her chest tightened.Nine years. That wasn’t just a relationship. That was almost a lifetime of memories.“That’s almost a decade,” she said quietly. He watched her carefully, his expression unreadable. "It was.""Were you engaged?"The question slipped out before she could stop herself. He went silent for a moment."...At one point.”Her breath caught.Of course they were. Nine years. Families must have known. There must have been plans, discussions about the future, a life mapped out together.“Why did it end?” she asked, her breathing uneven.Roman’s jaw tightened. “It ran its course.”“That’s not an answer.”He held her gaze this time. “Let's just say our plans for the future didn't align. She wanted a life that didn’t align with me. Or my current values.”There was something in his tone she couldn’t decipher.S

Roman immediately turned to look at her.Her eyes remained closed, her breathing slow and even. She might have been talking in her sleep. The thought made something warm flicker in his chest. He couldn't help the soft, helpless chuckle that escaped him.“You’re really asking that now?” he murmured, amused. His mood lifted slightly despite the exhaustion and weight in his chest.“You held onto that question even through all this?” He found it cute. He brushed his thumb gently over her knuckles.“Has it been bothering you that much?”No answer. He studied her face, thinking she had finally drifted off.He exhaled quietly. But then her lips parted again. “…Is she someone I should be jealous of?”Her voice was faint. Fragile, but awake.Roman’s expression softened.A faint possessive light flickered in his eyes as he stared at her affectionately. His free hand moved to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. He leaned down and pressed a slow, gentle kiss against her forehead.“No,” he sai
