The sphygmomanometer beeped, indicating it was done checking Mr Chevalier’s blood pressure.

It read, 156/109 which made me purse my lips in disappointment, he hasn’t been taking his anti-hypertensive medication.

“Sir, why haven’t you been taken your medication?” I ask with worry.

He scoffed and looks down at the reading. “Those are just numbers, I feel fine.”

Sighing, I unstrapped the cuff from his arm. “Sir, you may feel fine now, but hypertension is a silent killer.”

  • BRATVA'S OBSESSION    CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVEN- Ambush

SashaI opened my eyes to darkness softened by the dim glow of the bedside lamp. For a second, I stayed still listening to the quiet hum of the air conditioner and the distant footsteps of guards somewhere downstairs. And the soft, steady sound of Josephine breathing beside me.I turned my head carefully, holding back a groan as the dull throbbing in my temple reminded me I still wasn’t fully healed.Kratoska slept curled against my side, one arm draped loosely over my waist beneath the blankets. Her blonde hair was spread across the pillow like silk, messy from sleep and falling over part of her face.A faint snore escaped her.It almost made me smile. She looked peaceful. Too peaceful for someone who had been ripped into the middle of my world and nearly destroyed by it.My gaze lingered on her face longer than it should have. The faint crease between her brows even in sleep, the dried tear tracks I could still barely make out against her cheeks. And suddenly, all I could think abou

  • BRATVA'S OBSESSION    CHAPTER EIGHTY-SIX- Ease Pain

JosephineSeeing Pavel wrapped in gauze was more painful than I imagined. The image still clung to me even hours later, the steady beeping of machines. The way almost every inch of exposed skin on the left side of his body had been covered carefully with thick white dressings.I still remembered the way Evelyn had broken down the second she saw him awake. The sob that tore out of her had sounded almost painful, like she’d been holding it in for days.“I’m so sorry…” she kept crying, clutching his uninjured hand carefully. “Pavel, I’m so sorry… this is all my fault…”And despite the state he was in, despite the pain medication clearly making him sluggish, Pavel had still tried comforting her.I remembered the faint squeeze of his fingers around hers. The rasp in his voice. “It’s not your fault, solnyshko…”That only made her cry harder.Even Sasha had gone quiet beside me and I knew he was hurting. Because those three weren’t just friends, they were brothers. And I could see the grief

  • BRATVA'S OBSESSION    CHAPTER EIGHTY-FIVE- Revenge

JosephineI blinked awake slowly, for a moment, everything felt… warm, soft and comfortable. Then it hit me that I wasn’t on the chair. My eyes snapped open fully as I took in my surroundings, the white sheets, the quiet hum of machines, the familiar sterile scent of the hospital, and the fact that I was very much in Sasha’s bed.Tucked in with a duvet pulled over me like I was the patient. My heart lurched and I sat up immediately, panic rushing through me.Why am I in his bed?Where is he?I was holding his hand- The memory hit all at once. I must have dozed off because I remembered sitting beside him, fingers wrapped around his, telling myself I’d just rest my eyes for a second.I swung my legs over the side of the bed, my bare feet hitting the cold hospital floor. Just as I pushed myself up, the bathroom door clicked open and I froze as Sasha stepped out.And for a second, my brain struggled to catch up. Because the man walking toward me now… didn’t look like the same man from tw

JosephineThe moment I slid into the car, the adrenaline started to fade. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking and I stared down at them, at the faint tremor running through my fingers… then at the gun still clutched tightly in my grip.I swallowed hard.I shot a gun…The thought hit me all over again, heavier this time.I actually pulled the trigger.Even if it was just the ground… even if it was a warning. My stomach twisted violently. I forced my gaze away, pressing my head back against the seat as the city blurred past the window.Being around Sasha… living in his world… it had changed something in me.There was a part of me now that reacted before thinking. That didn’t hesitate and would grab a weapon and pull the trigger if it meant getting to him and I didn’t know if that scared me more… or comforted me.The car turned sharply, slowing as it approached the hospital. It wasn’t hard to tell we were in the right place because men were everywhere.Stationed at the entrance, along the per

JosephineThe cathedral felt nothing like ‘safe’.Its tall, arched ceilings stretched into darkness with broken stained glass casting broken shadows along the cracked stone floors. What used to be sacred now felt hollow and deserted. And yet… it was the safest place according to Sasha…At least, that’s what they told me.A dozen armed men guarded the perimeter outside with their silhouettes moving behind the broken windows.Evelyn was safe, she had balled her eyes out and apologized the moment she laid eyes on me. I was relieved she was okay, and also, Mila was here too, prowling around restlessly. And Sasha…I swallowed hard.Hours had passed since they took me from the chaos of that penthouse. Since I last saw him covered in blood, barely able to stand. My chest tightened.I threw the ball again. Mila barked happily, sprinting across the wide, empty hall, her paws echoing against the stone as she chased after it like nothing in the world was wrong.I forced a weak smile. “Good girl…

SashaA guttural groan escaped my throat as I eased into the leather passenger seat of the SUV. Every muscle in my body felt like it had been shredded and stitched back together with rusted wire. The movement sent a tug of pain to my temple, thrumming in sync with the heavy beat of my heart."Sasha, look at you." Sergei said, not putting the car in gear yet.He just stared at the blood matted into my hair and the way my hands were trembling against my knees."You’re pale. Your pupils are blown. Go to the hospital. I’ll go to the shipyard. I’ll handle the recovery. I’ll find Pavel."I didn't spare him a glance. My eyes were locked on the side mirror, watching the back of Josephine’s head as two of my trusted men guided her through the chaos. A massive crowd had already gathered around the sidewalk where Gustav’s body lay, a broken, twisted heap of meat. The spectators were a perfect shield. While the gawkers and the amateur photographers focused on the gore on the pavement, my men wov

His groan vibrated against my lips, sending a rush of heat spiraling down my spine. “Josephine…” Sasha’s voice was low, thick with restraint as his hands tightened on my hips. “You don’t know what you’re starting.” I smirked softly, brushing my lips against his jaw, my fingers teasing the hard

Josephine The car rolled into a slow stop in front of a towering black gate with intricate gold designs and patterns. I craned my neck to take a good look at the freaking mansion beyond the gate. “Its a good thing that we’re at her family’s house.” Oma murmured, securing a gun inside her coat.

Josephine E-mails after E-mails flashed on the screen of my new phone, a few spam ones here and there but countless from the hospital. I scrolled through them slowly, my chest tightening with each subject line. “Urgent: Employment Status Review” “Final Warning: Unauthorised Absences” “Te

Sasha The city blurred past the tinted windows as the convoy moved in silence. My hand rested loosely on my thigh, fingers drumming a slow rhythm against it. I wasn’t impatient but calm. Every step I made from now on was calculated and precise so I would be in control of the situation, even
