My teeth chattered harshly as the chilly night air hit my exposed skin. I had received a sudden text instructing me to Mr Chevalier's home for an emergency and of course it had to be at the middle of a chilly night. I moved my feet quickly across the dimly lit street that led to his home or more like a freaking mansion. My brows furrowed instinctively as I noticed there were more guards stationed around the perimeters. “What the hell?.....” I muttered to myself. Anxiety makes it’s way to my heart causing my pulse to quicken as I walk towards the large gate. The stoic guard says nothing but guides me through the long front yard of the mansion. The air felt tense as my eyes glanced around in slight fear, something doesn’t feel right. “E-excuse me, is Mr Chevalier okay?” The stoic bodyguard doesn’t reply, instead he quickens his steps to the main entrance of the mansion. My body instantly felt relieved as the warm air seeped into my skin, I let out a relieved sigh. They shrugged my coat and scarf off and I was left in my embarrassing clubbing outfit. Yes, I was at the club when I received the abrupt text so there was no way I would head back to change before coming over. I stuck out like a sore thumb in my sparkling pink dress and thigh high boots. The guard scanned my outfit and awkwardly cleared his throat before guiding me to the elevator, going up to Mr Chevalier’s office. Mr Chevalier’s calculative striking blue eyes landed on me with his eyes scanning my outfit. Oddly enough, there was something undeniably commanding about him like he held quiet power in his frail body. “Nurse Josephine.” He gestured for me to sit which I did awkwardly while a guard placed a throw pillow on my exposed thighs to prevent me from flashing poor old, Mr Chevalier and I was thankful for that. “Your text was sent as urgent.....but you seem fine.” I commented softly. He takes a drag from his cigar and puffs out smoke before clipping the end off. “You’re here as my first aid.” My brows furrowed in confusion. “A-as first aid?” He nodded. “I would be expecting a guest and some actions may occur in which i might need first aid so that is why you were called.” “Then I think we need to call the cops too if something like that should happen.” My heart raced frantically. Mr Chevalier gave me a blank stare before signalling a body guard to come over. The guard proceeded to guide me out of his office, towards a room just two floors above his. “W-wait, if you’re going to be in danger shouldn’t we call the cops?!” I yelled out in a rush. The guard pulls my arm gently. “This way nurse Josephine.” Thoughts ran through my mind as I purposefully shuffle my feet towards the room ahead of me. “I don’t think it’s a good thing for me to stay if Mr Chevalier feels threatened by his guest-” “You are Mr Chevalier’s personal nurse, it is also your duty to keep him safe and so your life is also a priority.” His voice was blank without any emotion as he spoke in his thick French accent before excusing himself out of the room, leaving me dumbfounded. This is the most confusing night ever. I’ve always wondered what business Mr Chevalier ventured into because he has so much security and makes billions of dollars. A small knock sounds through the door and a familiar maid walks in with a tray of refreshments in her hand. She gives me a small smile and places the tray on the bed table before leaving silently. “What the hell is going on?.......” I mutter to myself. On cue my phone rings with the screen blaring the name of my boyfriend, Mathew. He always seemed to bombard my phone with calls and texts whenever i go out clubbing with colleagues, it always created a fight between the both of us. My jaws clench as I pick up the call. “Mathew-” “Where the fuck are you, Jo?” he growled with anger. My brows furrowed in confusion and annoyance. “I went out Mathew, I told you that I was going clubbing so why the question?” He scoffed through the phone and I hear something bang in the background like he just smashed he fist against a wall like he usually does. “No the fuck you’re not, I’m at the club to pick you up and you’re not even here.” My brows ticked with irritation as I check the time on the wall clock, ‘9:46pm’. Why the hell is he at the club to pick me up by this time when I clearly told him I’ll be home by 11?? “Jo, tell me where the fuck you are!” He yelled. “Calm down, Mathew I got an urgent text from Mr Chevalier and I had to leave.” He laughs sarcastically, I could imagine his judging eyes scanning my whole form. “I knew it.” I frowned. “Knew what, Mathew?” “You’re fucking that rich geezer aren’t you?” He sneered. My eyes widened in utter shock, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “Excuse me?!” “Admit it, Jo....you’re cheating on me with that rich bastard.” His voice cracks and Its like i could see the manipulative tears that gathers in his eyes. This always happens whenever we had an argument. Mathew assumes things, the argument gets heated and then he proceeds to cry and it works on me......always. “Mathew.....” I mutter softly. He sniffles. “Okay, just come home to me baby.” A pang of guilt hits me. “I will, don’t stay up it might take sometime.” “Just come home to me....” I end the call and let out an agitated sigh, I would have to go home to explain to Mathew and talk things over with him. Tomorrow is my twenty fourth birthday and I had gone out today to celebrate with colleagues because I have work the next day. Mathew and I have been dating for a year and a half now, we first met while I was in my last semester at nursing school and he was working as a construction worker. We were friends for a while before he confessed his feelings and we’ve been dating ever since. The sound of the Mansion’s gates opening up cuts me out of my thoughts as I hurry to the window with curiosity. My heart raced with anticipation as I see three luxury cars pull up in the driveway. “Damn......” The cars were slick black with tinted windows and I’m not a car person but I sure as hell know that these cars were expensive as hell..... four bulky men in suites came out of the cars but I couldn’t really see who came out from the one in the middle. What the hell does Mr Chevalier do to be involved with such powerful looking men. Don’t get me wrong, Mr Chevalier was extremely wealthy but these men.....I could feel their aura from the window I peeked from. One of the bulky men looks up to the window and my heart jumps as I duck quickly but I’m sure as hell that he saw me. Anxiety creeps it’s way as I crawl away from the window, back to the bed. “Stay calm, stay calm, stay calm.....” I whispered to myself. Are you sure those men aren’t traffickers and Mr Chevalier is willing to sell me for a pricy amount? They didn’t have anything illegal on them but from just their presence, it scared me.... My grip tightened on my phone as I clutch a lamp in another hand for protection. Everything was oddly quiet but the air felt thick with tension which unsettles me. I crawl back to the window and it seems like the men had gone inside while a few guards stood by the door. If there was a chance to escape, my thigh high boots would probably be a hindrance so I immediately took it off. After what felt like an hour or two, there was a knock on the door which caused me to jump with the lamp in my hands. A guard walks in and scans me with confusion but doesn’t comment on it. “You can leave now, Nurse Josephine.” The guard side steps. I let out a sigh of relief and quickly packed my boots in my hands and walked out barefooted without a care in the world. It seems like whatever predicaments that Mr Chevalier was expecting never occurred and I was thankful for that. “Is Mr Chevalier okay?” I whisper to the guard as he guides me to the elevator at the end of the hallway. The guard gave me a stiff nod. “The driver would drop you off at your home.” “Thank you....” I murmured. The elevator had transparent doors that made it possible for me to see everything as I went down the three stories of the mansion. It went smoothly, passing the first level and then the second level until my eyes suddenly locked with striking grey ones. I let out an audible gasp, he was huge, bigger than the men I had seen while peeking out the window. It was as brief as a second that our eyes met but I could feel the power radiating off him, his presence was commanding and that terrified me to the bones. As soon as the elevator dinged open, my legs hurried towards the maid that held my coat and scarf. I could feel eyes on me and knew that I was being watched from somewhere above but I didn’t want to look up. Rushing a quick ‘thank you’, I hauled my ass into the car waiting for me and let out a relieved sigh as the driver sped off. Tingles spread through my skin at the thought of the haunting giant with striking grey eyes.....Josephine “Апорт!” (“fetch!”) The slobber-soaked chew toy squelched in my hand before I tossed it across the wide expanse of the indoor gym. Mila launched after it with powerful strides, her nails clicking faintly against the polished floor. The toy bounced once, twice, before she snatched it up and turned back, her thick tail wagging so hard in excitement to play more. I laughed under my breath as she dropped it at my feet, chest heaving with excitement, big brown eyes locked on me with eager expectation. “You’re relentless, you know that?” I teased, nudging the toy with my sneaker. Pavel had taught me a few Russian dog commands to use on Mila, and it seemed to have been working for the past hour that I lounged at the gym. Evelyn and Oma had gone out shopping while I decided to stay home because my mood over the past few days has been sour. Although I would have liked to go, I didn’t want to spoil the mood for them. Sasha had spoken to me this morning while he was
Josephine The stairway felt colder as we stopped halfway, leaning against the railings while staring at the thought of us returning to the states in silence. I huffed, easing the anger that bubbled within my chest. Evelyn stood beside me, arms crossed, her lips pressed into a thin line of frustration. Silence stretched between us. “I feel like I’m being handled.” I finally muttered, the words tasting bitter on my tongue. Evelyn scoffed, leaning against the wall. “Handled? More like shipped off like fragile cargo.” I let out a hollow laugh. “Exactly.” The weight of everything settled, and now only guilt remained. Guilt for compromising Evelyn’s safety by being friends with me, and now she’s left unemployed... After a few minutes of silence, I spoke up. “I’m sorry.” Evelyn glanced at me with furrowed brows of confusion, so I continued. “You were dragged into all this because of me, you lost your job also because of me and-” She cut me off. “Hey, what are you sayi
Josephine We were sucked into a blur of heated moments, swiftly moving to the back seat for more room. Our hands flew to grasp each other, pulling and tugging his shirt to which he obliged by taking it off. He grabbed the back of my head again, pulling me into another heated kiss with tongues. I arched into him, trailing my hands down the muscle ridges of his back and abs. “You have to finish what you started, Kratoska.” Sasha rasped against my lip. My nipples hardened, feeling the familiar ache between my legs. “ I plan to....” I reply breathlessly. His hands travel to my thighs, grabbing them to straddle me while leaving a hot trail of kisses down my neck. I moaned softly, grinding down to the hardness of his crotch. “Hnngh...” My heart raced with excitement and anticipation, clutching hard on his broad shoulders as he formed a hickey on my neck. I ran my fingers through his hair, which elicited a low groan from him. “Fuck...” Delicious shivers dance across my ski
Josephine “Sasha-” Katya started, reaching towards him cautiously. “Outside, now.” Sasha spoke lowly, not even raising his voice but every decibel of tone echoed in the room. His piercing grey eyes fixed on me like a prey. I swallowed, the silence in the room made tension to thicken. He cocked his head. “Or do you prefer to talk in here?” he said, not as a suggestion but as a dare. My eyes widened a bit before muttering lowly, rubbing my sweaty palms on my jacket. “There’s no need to cause a scene...” He stepped aside, waiting fir me to brush past him before following me down the hallway. I hadn’t bothered to look back at Katya or Alina, not wanting to die of further embarrassment. My heart raced, feeling his looming presence that followed from behind as we made our way down to the front driveway where the SUV’s were running and ready to leave. Oma stood arms crossed, with an ‘I told you so’ look on her face that made me want to cringe inwardly. One guard opened the
Josephine The car rolled into a slow stop in front of a towering black gate with intricate gold designs and patterns. I craned my neck to take a good look at the freaking mansion beyond the gate. “Its a good thing that we’re at her family’s house.” Oma murmured, securing a gun inside her coat. I swipe a nervous tongue across my bottom lip, glancing at her. “Why?” She looks up with a smirk. “Because if she attempts something, it’ll implicate the whole Morozova family." Anxiety tingled at the tips of my fingers. “B-but that doesn’t really stop her from trying anything....” “Yeah but at least she’ll be smart about her actions.” She murmured. That doesn’t put my anxiety at rest. ‘You wanted this’, I reminded myself grimly. ‘You’re the one who agreed to meet her.’ The gates groaned, opening slowly as the car rolled forward, I couldn’t help but squeeze my fist tighter, bracing myself for an attack that never took place, it seems like Ptsd from the past attack was star
Josephine E-mails after E-mails flashed on the screen of my new phone, a few spam ones here and there but countless from the hospital. I scrolled through them slowly, my chest tightening with each subject line. “Urgent: Employment Status Review” “Final Warning: Unauthorised Absences” “Termination of Employment – Josephine Beaumont” The words blurred for a moment, my thumb hovered over the screen before I forced myself to open the last one. |Dear Miss Beaumont, |We regret to inform you that, due to repeated absences and failure to communicate with your department, your employment at Saint Peterson’s Hospital has been terminated effective immediately. |Please arrange to collect any personal belongings within 14 days, or they will be disposed of. |We thank you for your service and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
