Anya’s POV

I turned sharply, my phone nearly slipping from my hand. Kennedy stood a few feet away, his jaw clenched, eyes bloodshot. His expensive suit was slightly rumpled, and the smell of alcohol hit me before he even moved closer. His smile—if it could be called that—was sharp and cruel.

“It’s none of your business,” I said, though my voice trembled a little.

He took a step forward. “It is my business,” he said, his tone low and dangerous. “You’re my fiancée now. Or did you forget that already?”

Before I could respond, he grabbed my wrist hard. His fingers dug into my skin, and I winced. “Let go,” I snapped, trying to pull away, but he didn’t.

“Forget whoever it is,” he hissed. “You belong to me now.”

I shook my head, my voice rising. “I don’t belong to anyone!”

That made him angrier. His grip tightened, and in one fast movement, he shoved me back against the wall. The sound echoed, and I gasped as pain shot through my shoulder. His face was inches from mine now, his breath reeking of whiskey.

“Don’t embarrass me again,” he said quietly, the calm in his voice more terrifying than if he’d shouted. “If you do, I’ll make sure you regret it. Understand?”

Tears stung my eyes, but I refused to let them fall in front of him. I stared back, silent, my heart pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears.

He finally released me, straightened his jacket, and gave a twisted smirk. “Good girl,” he muttered before turning and walking away as if nothing had happened.

I slid down the wall slowly, shaking all over. My arm ached where he had grabbed me. I could still smell his cologne—too strong, mixed with alcohol and anger.

My phone was still in my hand. I looked at the screen. No missed calls. No messages.

For the first time that night, fear settled deep inside me. Not just fear of Kennedy—but fear that something was wrong with Chase. Fear that maybe my father had been right… that love didn’t stand a chance in our world.

But I wasn’t ready to believe that yet. Not while my heart still belonged to him.

I sneaked out of the house carefully, trying not to make a sound. The hallways were quiet and empty, and I could almost hear my own heartbeat echoing off the walls. The night air was cold as I stepped outside, a shiver running down my spine. I grabbed my car keys with shaking hands and hurried to the garage. The cold metal bit my fingers, and I almost dropped them, but I caught them just in time. My car felt like a lifeline as I got inside, slammed the door, and started the engine.

I drove to Chase’s apartment building, my mind a whirlwind of hope and fear. What if he was gone? What if something had happened? My fingers drummed nervously against the steering wheel as I parked and ran up the stairs, my heart pounding like a drum. I didn’t care that my heels clicked loudly against the concrete steps, that my chest was tight, or that my legs burned. I just needed to see him.

When I reached his door, I knocked hard, my hand stinging from how fast I was pounding. “Chase… it’s me,” I called, my voice trembling. My heart sank when there was no answer. I knocked again, louder this time. “Please… Chase, answer me!”

Still nothing.

Panic began to coil in my stomach. This wasn’t like him. He always answered my calls, always came to me. Why wasn’t he here? What had happened? My mind raced with every possible terrible scenario, each one worse than the last.

Then I heard a door open behind me. I turned quickly and saw an older woman stepping out—it was their neighbor. Her face was kind, lined with age, but there was a softness in her eyes that made me feel slightly better… until she spoke.

“Are you looking for Chase?” she asked, her voice gentle.

“Yes! Do you know where he is? He’s not answering the door!” My words tumbled out, desperate.

She sighed, shaking her head slowly. “They moved out… him and his grandmother. They left earlier today.”

My stomach dropped. My chest felt like it had been ripped open. “Moved out? But… where? Do you know where they went?” My voice shook, barely a whisper.

“No, dear,” she said softly. Then she paused, as if thinking. “But he left something for you. He said you’d come looking.”

My hands trembled as she disappeared inside for a moment and returned with a small, white envelope. My fingers brushed over it, and the paper felt impossibly heavy. I took it from her, my hands shaking so badly I could barely hold it. “Th-thank you,” I stammered, my throat tight.

I stepped into the hallway, leaning against the wall for support, and carefully opened the envelope. My heart hammered painfully in my chest as I unfolded the letter. Chase’s handwriting greeted me like a ghost, familiar yet distant. My eyes scanned the words, and I felt like the floor had disappeared beneath me.

He wrote that he had always known we could never be together. That he was only after my father’s money. That everything between us—every laugh, every look, every word—was a lie. My heart twisted, and tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. I wanted to scream, to throw the letter away, to burn it, but I couldn’t move.

He continued that now, since I was getting married to someone else, my father had offered him money to disappear—and he had taken it. That he couldn’t pass up a fortune for something that wasn’t real. He told me not to look for him and wished me happiness in my new life.

By the time I finished reading, my hands were shaking so badly the letter slipped from my fingers and fell to the floor. I just sat there, staring at it, unable to breathe.

He was gone.

The boy I had loved—the boy I thought loved me—had left. And worse, he had done it for money.

Tears blurred my vision as I sank to the cold floor of the hallway. The pain in my chest was unbearable. It felt like my whole world had shattered in one night.

I had loved the wrong person.

I had trusted the wrong person.

I had believed in love… and now I was paying the price.

  • BURN ME, ORION : The Billionaire's Reclaimed Obsession   CHAPTER 66

Orion's POVThere was barely a pause before Leon responded. "Understood. How secure are we talking?"Leon knew what I meant by "somewhere secure." We'd had this kind of conversation before—not often, but enough times that we'd developed a certain shorthand. Somewhere secure meant somewhere private, somewhere isolated, somewhere that Kennedy wouldn't be found unless I wanted him to be found. Somewhere I could have a conversation with him without interruption or witnesses."Very secure," I said, my jaw clenching so hard it ached. "I want him found tonight if possible. Use whatever resources you need. However many men it takes. I don't care about the cost.""Any particular condition you want him in when we bring him in?" Leon asked, his tone perfectly neutral and professional. It was a good question. Part of me—a large part of me—wanted to tell Leon to make Kennedy hurt. To give him a taste of what he'd done to Anya. To make him bleed and bruise and feel a fraction of the pain he'd infli

  • BURN ME, ORION : The Billionaire's Reclaimed Obsession   CHAPTER 65

Orion's POVI waited for what felt like forever for the doctors to come out.The emergency room waiting area was sterile and cold, all harsh fluorescent lights and uncomfortable plastic chairs bolted to the floor. The smell of antiseptic hung heavy in the air, mixing with the faint scent of coffee from a vending machine in the corner. A television mounted on the wall played the news on mute, the images flickering across the screen while I sat there, unable to focus on anything except the double doors Anya had disappeared through. The waiting was absolute torture.Minutes crawled by like hours. Each second felt impossibly long, stretching out endlessly while my mind raced with terrible possibilities. I kept seeing her the way I'd found her—crumpled on the floor, covered in blood and bruises, so still and broken. I kept hearing the fear in her voice when she'd called me, the desperate way she'd begged for help. I kept thinking about what might be happening behind those closed doors righ

Orion's POV"Yes, sir," he said, his voice tight with understanding and urgency.I climbed in beside her, keeping her cradled against me, one hand supporting her head to keep it from lolling too much. The car door slammed shut, and then we were moving, pulling away from the curb with a screech of tires. My driver sped off toward the hospital, weaving aggressively through traffic, running lights, doing exactly what I'd told him to do. The city blurred past the windows, but I barely noticed. All my attention was focused on Anya. She was still unconscious. Still so pale and still and broken-looking. The blood from her head wound had soaked into my shirt now, a dark stain spreading across the fabric. I could feel how cold her skin was, could see the way her breathing hitched sometimes like it hurt her to breathe.Broken ribs, probably. Maybe internal bleeding. Definitely a concussion from the way her head had been bleeding. God only knew what else Kennedy had done to her.I talked to her

  • BURN ME, ORION : The Billionaire's Reclaimed Obsession   CHAPTER 63

Orion's POV"No," I breathed, the word coming out strangled and desperate.I ran toward her, my feet crunching on broken glass that I barely registered. I dropped to my knees beside her, my hands reaching for her but hesitating for just a second, afraid to touch her, afraid of what I would find. Her head was bleeding—a dark, sticky patch of blood matting her hair and trickling down her face in thin red rivulets. Her face was bruised, already swelling, with dark purple marks blooming across her cheekbone and around her eye. Her lip was split and bleeding. There was blood smeared under her nose, dried and crusted on her upper lip.But it wasn't just her face. Her arms were covered in bruises—finger-shaped marks where someone had grabbed her, held her down. Her clothes were torn and disheveled. I could see more bruises on her ribs where her shirt had ridden up, dark and angry-looking, the kind of bruises that came from being kicked or punched repeatedly. She looked broken. Battered. Like

Orion's POVMy driver pressed harder on the accelerator. The car surged forward, the engine roaring as we wove aggressively through traffic. Other cars honked at us, swerving out of the way as we blew past them. I didn't care. I didn't care about traffic laws or safety or anything except getting to Anya.I tried calling her back. The phone rang once, twice, three times before going to voicemail. Her voice—calm and professional, from when she'd recorded the message—asked me to leave a message after the beep.I hung up and tried again.Straight to voicemail this time. Either her phone had died, or it was broken, or—I couldn't let myself finish that thought.I tried a third time. Same result."Fuck!" I slammed my fist against the car door, the impact doing nothing to relieve the helpless rage and fear coursing through me.I should have known. I should have seen the signs. The way she'd been so afraid when she'd had that nightmare. The way she'd locked up when I'd asked her to talk about

Orion's POVAfter dropping Anya off at her apartment building, I settled back into the leather seat and told my driver to take me to one of my nightclubs downtown.I needed alcohol. I needed noise and music and crowds of people to drown out the thoughts racing through my head. I needed to wash away all thoughts of Anya, to scrub her out of my mind and forget what had happened between us on this trip.I needed to get her out of my head.Kissing her had been a mistake. I knew that. I knew it. She was married. I was engaged to Kaia. We both had lives and commitments and responsibilities that didn't include each other. That kiss should never have happened, and I should regret it. I should feel guilty, ashamed, angry at myself for crossing that line. But I couldn't regret it.God help me, I couldn't.Her lips had tasted like heaven. Soft and sweet and perfect, just like I remembered from five years ago. Just like when we were younger, when things were so much simpler, when it was just the
