LOGINDarian’s POV
I have been finding everything stressful. The company that I had built with my sweat and blood or should I say with the backing of my mother had been on a tethering edge. The company was on the verge of collapsing. “What do you mean we are running out of funds?” I shouted at the bank manager who had been managing my assets for a longer time than I can remember. “Sell whatever it is that you can sell. I don't care who you are selling to. I need that money before tomorrow.” “But.” I slammed the phone on the table in anger. My gaze fell on the door at the sound of the door bell. There and behold, my precious wife, Selena. The woman my mother had forced me to marry after I divorced Camilla. The price I had to pay for Alessia brushing my murderous act under the rug. “Where the hell do you think you are going too?” I snapped, anger bubbling inside of me. “Is that another car key?” I asked in bewilderment “This isn't mine, it is yours.” Selena said, throwing the car key at me. She knows I don't fancy cars but maybe she was trying to get me riled up. “Do you know how many you have owned and bought in the last couple of years we get married?” Selena blinked twice, “Don't be so much a joy killer. This is yours. Happy birthday.” She walked towards me and kissed me but then, I could smell another man’s perfume on her. As she was about to walk off, my hand caught her arms. “Wait? Is that yours?” I asked sniffing her body. “What are you talking about?” Selena asked, faking it. “Did you just ask me that?” I got angry and yanked her towards the chair. But a capsule flew out falling on the floor right in front of me. I looked at the capsule on the floor and back at my wife who was now fidgeting. “And what is this?” I asked slowly, bending on the floor in front of me. I read the first wording and my face went pale. The slight dizziness, the body weak and fatigue. Was this the side effect? Have I been on these sedatives? “I can explain.” Selena said immediately, taking off her heels. I clenched my hands in anger. “Are you trying to get me killed? All these years of us being together. Don't tell me you don't want to get pregnant and have my baby!” “I told you, Darian. I am not ready but then you are not listening to me.” Selena said back in anger. A guide to mask the former question. I tried calming down my nerves. “And whose perfume was that on you because I know clearly that is not yours.” I looked at her. “There is an explanation for all of this.” Selena said with her back going towards the door. I dashed towards the cabinet and grabbed my gun. Selena froze. “If you think you are going to get out of here without an explanation then you are joking!” I pointed the gun at her. She made a move from the door and without thinking twice I fired the shot as the door opened. To my surprise, the bullet flew past my mother's face and hit the glass right behind her. I watched as her eyes fell on Selena and back at me. “Were you planning on killing her? Committing another murderer?” The words hit me to my curb. I lowered the gun slowly while Selena ran behind my mother. “What brings you here, Alessia?” I asked angrily I called my mother by her first name when I was in a bad mood. I watched as she dropped her bag on the sofa and marched forward towards me. A hot slap landed on my face making me wonder what I did wrong. I held my face in surprise, “What did I do wrong?” I asked, grabbing my face. “Are you seriously asking me that question?” Alessia asked fuming in anger. “What were you thinking?” Still thinking she was talking about the gunshot incident, I walked away from her. “She caused it, mother. She is planning on making me barren!” I shouted again. “And why is that my business? I married you to her. You are just as weak as your father!” Alessia's face fell hard on me. “Are you planning on selling the company too?” I raised my eyebrows. I guess Nelson told her already. After asking for more time. “Don't tell me you cannot handle things while I am away.” Alessia bombed again “I can handle this. I just need more time.” I sat down beside her forgetting my sorrows. “We just need a few loans and everything will be back to the way it was.” Alessia scoffed, “And who will be willing to lend us that unreasonable amount of money. How much was it again?” “ A hundred billion.” I said, my voice barely audible. “ What?! A hundred…” Alessia looked at me. "...billion dollars? Are you out of your mind, Darian? We can't even get a loan of that magnitude from the bank, let alone from a private investor." I hung my head in shame, knowing that I had made a mess of things. "I know, Mother. I'm sorry. I just didn't know what else to do." “ I think I might be able to help.” I looked back and my gaze fell on Selena. “And what do you think you can do?” “A friend of mine talked about a powerful company that would be more than willing to help out.” She replied looking at my mother and back at me. “Is there a company much more powerful and bigger than Baldore's company?” I looked at my mother. “They are new in business and I am very sure they will be more than willing to collaborate with you.” Selena said again. “I can plan a meeting with them if you are ready.” Selena said trying to redeem herself “And what is this company's name?” I raised my eyebrows.George's povThe fertility specialist's office was in one of the richest‚ and therefore‚ quietest‚ neighborhoods of town‚ and it had a clientele who paid extra for discretion․ I wasn't expecting to get anything out of them directly‚ as doctor-patient privilege being what it was‚ but money and pressure somehow always seemed to get the tongues of professionals to wag when applied by the right person․I'd sent my best investigator‚ a former detective named Marcus Wren who'd worked for me on and off for years‚ someone thorough enough to find a thread in a haystack of paperwork and patient enough to pull it slowly without spooking whoever was holding the other end․ He'd called me twice over the course of that day with updates․ Every time he called me‚ another door was softly and firmly closing in his face․"Nobody at the practice is talking‚" he told me around six in the evening‚ his voice tired through the phone․ "Doctor-patient privilege is airtight here‚ and none of the current staff se
Camila's povSelena Grey. Darian's wife. A woman I'd met exactly twice, both times at events neither of us wanted to attend, both times exchanging nothing more than the coldest, most surface-level pleasantries two women could manage while quietly despising the situation that had thrown them into the same room.I remembered the first time clearly, a charity gala years ago, back when I was still new to J and F, still learning how to move through rooms like this without feeling like an imposter in someone else's expensive life. Selena had approached me at the bar, unprompted, and looked me over with an expression I hadn't been able to place at the time. Not hostility exactly. Something more calculating, more assessing, like she was trying to figure out where I fit into a puzzle only she could see the full shape of."You're the one everyone whispers about," she'd said, swirling her drink. "The girl who came back.""I suppose I am," I'd answered carefully."Interesting," she'd said, and w
George's POVPriya's office at midnight looked like a war room, papers spread across every surface, three associates she'd called in on emergency notice working through case law while Camila sat rigid in a chair across from Priya's desk, her hands wrapped so tight around a cup of coffee that her knuckles had gone white.I stood near the window, watching the city lights below, feeling helpless in a way I wasn't used to feeling. I'd spent years learning how to solve problems with money, with leverage, with the kind of quiet influence that made obstacles simply disappear if you knew which door to knock on. None of that worked here. A judge couldn't be bought, not without destroying the exact case we needed to win, and Alessia knew that better than anyone, which was exactly why she'd chosen this particular battlefield."Emergency temporary custody motions are difficult to grant," Priya said, trying to sound reassuring, though the tightness around her eyes told a different story. "Courts
Camila's povPriya arrived at nine sharp the next morning, her expression grim in a way that told me whatever she'd found wasn't a minor complication.I'd barely slept, George's arm the only thing keeping me tethered through another long night of doom-scrolling headlines and rehearsing testimony in my head, imagining every possible question a judge might throw at me and trying to find an answer that didn't leave me raw and exposed in front of strangers. When Priya walked in with that particular tightness around her mouth, I felt my stomach drop before she'd even said a word."Just tell me," I said, before she could ease into it gently. "Whatever it is, I'd rather hear it straight.""There's a clause buried in the original filing," she said, spreading the documents across the table. "Alessia isn't just petitioning for grandparent visitation. She's requesting a court-ordered paternity test to formally establish Cora's legal relationship to the Baldore family. If it's granted and confir
George’s povBy morning, the clip had over two million views, and Camila's public image, which had taken months to rebuild into something the board and the press actually respected, cracked wide open along exactly the line Alessia had been aiming for from the start.I hadn't slept. Neither had Camila. We'd spent most of the night watching the number climb, refreshing the same headlines over and over like doing so might somehow change what they said, both of us too exhausted and too furious to actually rest. I spent the entire night on calls, first with our media team, then with Priya, then with three separate reporters who owed me favors I intended to finally cash in."We need our own statement," our media director said, exhausted, her third cup of coffee going cold beside her laptop. "Something that reframes the narrative before the custody hearing. Right now the story is 'CEO used her own daughter as leverage in a business relationship.' We need it to be 'devoted mother protecting
Darian’s povI hadn't meant for it to go public. That was the truth, even if nobody would believe me once the clip started circulating. I'd agreed to sit down with a journalist I trusted, someone who'd covered our family for years without ever twisting a story too far from the truth, intending to finally, quietly, put on the record everything my mother had done. Aurora. The confession she'd forced Camila into. All of it, laid out plainly, my own small attempt at correcting seven years of silence.I remembered sitting across from the journalist, a woman named Elaine Voss who'd covered three separate scandals involving my family over the years without ever once sensationalizing them beyond what the facts actually supported, and feeling, for the first time in longer than I could remember, like I was finally doing something right instead of something that only benefited myself. I'd told her everything. The confession. The murder. My mother's confession to me directly, word for word as clo
