Chapter 1

Author: Shirley
My adopted brother, Knox, the heir to the Falcone family, absolutely loathed any woman who fell for him.

So I kept my crush a secret for years, never daring to say a word. I stayed by his side as his sister, the only woman allowed to remain.

That was until my true feelings were exposed, and I realized he had been watching me make a fool of myself all along. I finally woke up, turned my back on him, and accepted an arranged marriage with a rising mob boss.

And that arrogant mafia boss kicked my bedroom door open, his eyes burning with fury.

I just stood there and laughed softly. A master hunter often acts like the prey.

Returning to my room after a boring family dinner, the first thing I saw was Knox holding my freshly washed leopard-print lingerie that was drying by the bed.

"Since when did your taste get so wild?"

He stood in front of my bed, practically naked as usual. His muscles looked like they were carved from marble, and that thin piece of fabric dangled from his long fingers.

My eyes uncontrollably trailed down the deep cut of his lower abs, landing on the loose pajama pants hanging low on his hips.

I wasn't sure if it was my imagination, but he seemed to stand a little straighter on purpose, making what little was hidden even more obvious.

My throat tightened. "Knox?"

He didn't care at all about being half-naked. His deep voice carried a lazy drawl. "Going to take a bath? I already got your nightgown out for you."

"I can do it myself."

I snatched the clothes from him. My fingertips accidentally brushed against his warm, firm chest, and my cheeks instantly caught fire.

I thought to myself that living in this house was seriously testing the limits of my sanity.

I was the daughter of the family's former Consigliere.

After my parents died, the Don adopted me and brought me into this estate.

Knox and I were siblings in name only. Maybe because we grew up together, he had zero sense of boundaries with me.

Or rather, he never saw me as a real woman.

He would casually kiss my forehead, drink the leftover whiskey from my glass, play with my lingerie, and do every ambiguous thing possible to set the air on fire.

But to him, I was always just the little sister who had kept him company since childhood.

There was no denying that Knox was flawless in both looks and body. Every woman in the family blushed just mentioning him. Normally, I should have claimed a man like him a long time ago.

But fate had a sick sense of humor. This cold-blooded heir had a deep-seated trauma.

When he was a child, he saw his mother cheating behind the Don's back before she was thrown out on the streets. Ever since then, he was disgusted by any woman who tried to get close to him.

Those beautiful women who tried to strip and climb into his bed either ended up getting kicked off his territory at gunpoint or simply vanished.

The only reason I was the sole woman allowed to stay safe in his territory was that I hid my desire for him behind a sweet, sisterly act.

He always treated me as his own, as his closest family.

Thinking of this, I often regretted staying at the estate to play his game. Being this close meant crossing the line was bound to happen. Once he figured out how I felt, I would lose even the right to stay by his side.

Because I liked Knox. I was desperate to have him.

The chilled wine slid down my throat, calming the heat in my chest. My mind drifted back to the dinner party a few days ago.

The family had just taken over some new businesses, and the Don had him step up as the heir. For the entire night, Knox's hand never left my waist.

We weaved through a crowd of politicians and gang bosses, even attracting the flashing cameras of a few gossip reporters.

An older, wealthy wife finally walked over to us.

She smiled and asked, "The young boss is holding Eden so tightly. Are you two going to announce a wedding soon?"

My hand stiffened around my glass. Before I could answer, Knox's eyes turned cold with disgust. "Don't drag us into that. Eden is my sister."

The temperature in the room seemed to drop.

Everyone looked at me with sympathy.

I took a sip of my champagne like nothing happened, but I couldn't help thinking. With the way you're holding me, anyone would get the wrong idea.

Well, maybe no one actually believed him. Or maybe men just didn't think that way.

I carefully pieced together the details in my head, and finally figured out why I didn't recognize Bastian at first. He always wore sunglasses, deliberately hiding his childhood edge. He disguised himself flawlessly as a mafia boss. So much so that before that night in the VIP booth, I failed to connect him as Knox's underground ally.I narrowed my eyes, scrutinizing Knox's stoic face. A far more absurd thought flashed into my mind. "Did you already know I liked you?"The room went quiet for a few seconds. He replied in a low voice, "I knew."At this moment, I felt like a fool.Knox had never been a slow person. He took over half the family's businesses in his teens, and redrew the power map of the outer districts in his early twenties.Every woman in the past who tried to use her body to get close to him, he could sharply detect and mercilessly reject. With a brain like that, how could he not see through the feelings of a girl who hovered around him every single day?He just never bro

Knox's acting was so natural that anyone who didn't know the truth would think he really was my boyfriend.Bastian asked, "Eden, what do you want for dinner? How about Italian?"Knox immediately vetoed it. "Her stomach is weak. She can't eat too much heavy cream sauce.""Then let's try seafood?""She's allergic to shellfish."My mouth twitched, listening to one ordering and the other rejecting. At first, it sounded reasonable, but later it just turned into pure arguing.Clearly annoyed, Bastian hit the gas and parked the car in front of a fusion restaurant. The menu here covered everything, completely blocking Knox's excuses. The three of us sat in a booth. Bastian and Knox sat on opposite sides, and I sat in the middle with that bouquet of roses. The waiter came over five times. It wasn't until the head chef personally came to ask for the third time, "Gentlemen, our dining limit here is two hours."Knox finally pulled back his long legs. "Let Eden eat first."I secretly breathed a sig

Knox went dead silent.I looked at him in surprise. He pressed his lips together. When he didn't smile, his features were cold and hard. He seemed to notice my gaze and tried to force a smile, but failed. "Eden, you've only known each other for half a month. Isn't this too fast? You should at least get to know him."Knox frowned, gritting his teeth as he added, "Besides, one look and you can tell he's a bastard who just wants to trick you into bed. Giving you strong liquor on purpose, and wearing a tailored suit with two buttons undone, he's just a shameless bastard!"I almost laughed out loud at the double standard. The lighting was so dim earlier, it was a miracle he could even see how many buttons his rival had undone. My eyes landed on Knox's perpetually unbuttoned shirt collar, thinking to myself: when it comes to being shameless, he took the prize."Just trying it out. If it doesn't work, we'll call it off."He sat rigidly in place. The large bedroom fell into a deathly silence.

I stared down at the glass, lost in thought. I felt the hair on the side of my head being gently tugged. Bastian had his arm draped over the back of the booth, casually twirling a strand of my hair.I frowned, feeling uncomfortable with the closeness. But before I could move, a figure strode toward us.My hair was released. I looked up in shock, meeting a dark, terrifying face.It was Knox. The Knox who was supposed to be dealing with family business miles away!He was followed by two men in black suits, and the atmosphere instantly grew tense.Without a word, he grabbed Bastian's wrist. His eyes were frighteningly cold, and his other hand reached inside his jacket. My heart stopped. I jumped up from the sofa. "Knox?! Why did you bring so many people?"The music in the booth stopped. Everyone's eyes were glued to us. One of Bastian's men muttered, "Boss, is that Miss Eden's fiancé?"Damn. With just that one sentence, the gossip exploded in the room.Knox released Bastian's wrist, and

The sofa cushion beside me sank. A cold scent of cedar hit me. I turned my head and saw Bastian. He was leaning against the backrest, casually loosening his dark tie.His eyes landed on my phone. "Boyfriend?"I put my phone face down. "Not exactly. It's just a one-sided crush."In front of a business partner, I didn't bother to hide it."Is that right?" A smirk touched his lips, and he let out a low chuckle. "I thought the prettiest little girl in our old neighborhood had long since become Knox's exclusive property."Neighborhood? Little girl? Knox?!How did he know! That name came up too suddenly. My mind raced, and I looked at him, almost losing my composure. He didn't mind and reached up to take off his sunglasses."Can't recognize me? Back when you lived in the Seventh District, I saw you at the end of the alley every day. But after you got taken in by the Don, I was just a spectator."Once the sunglasses were removed, Bastian's mysterious aura shifted. Those deep, sharp eyes awake

His intense scent wrapped around me. My head was spinning. Before I could process what he meant, his hand slid up my waist and squeezed gently. A shiver shot straight up my spine. My legs went weak. I gritted my teeth and glared at him, igniting a wild spark inside me. I reached down and gave him a harsh, vengeful squeeze right through his expensive slacks.I heard him gasp in my ear. The heat against my palm was shocking, hardening instantly. His eyes turned dangerous. My instincts were screaming at me. I wanted to let go, but it was too late. His large hand covered mine, pinning it in place so I couldn't escape. Then, he crashed his lips onto mine."Don't worry, I'll make you feel good."I eventually put a stop to that crazy encounter.I was terrified that once we crossed the line, the fragile balance between us would shatter forever. The second I regained my senses, I shoved him away. There was no denying his touch was intoxicating, leaving my cheeks burning and my legs weak. B
