Chapter 1

مؤلف: Evil SIL
As I walked out of the Bentley estate, it started to pour.

Within seconds, I was soaked to the bone. Dragging my suitcase behind me, I struggled down the side of the road.

The roar of an engine suddenly came from behind me.

My older brother, Conor Bentley, tore past in his sports car. The tires plowed through a puddle, drenching me in muddy water.

A moment later, the car screeched to a stop in front of me. The driver's window rolled down, revealing Conor's smug, mocking grin.

"Addison Bentley, without us, you won't even be able to feed yourself! Even if you freeze to death out here tonight, don't come crawling back and beg me to let you in!"

The instant the words left his mouth, the text above his head flickered.

[Luck: 5%]

It plunged straight to—

[Luck: 1%]

Death was staring him in the face. He just didn't know it yet.

"Don't worry," I said calmly. "Even if you begged me to come back, I wouldn't."

Conor let out a scornful snort before slamming on the gas and speeding away.

I turned and headed straight for Hawthorne Antique Market.

Suddenly, my attention landed on a grimy rock propping up the leg of a vendor's table. Its surface was caked with dirt, but in my eyes, it blazed with dazzling golden light.

[Luck Aura: 99%]

[Contains top-grade collectors' emerald.]

I walked over, pulled out the last $110 I had, and slapped it onto the table.

"I'll take this one. Cut it open right here."

The crowd burst into laughter, amused that someone who looked like a homeless drifter had the nerve to gamble on rough stone.

Then the saw bit into the stone, and a streak of brilliant emerald green appeared.

"Holy crap! It's emerald!"

"It's solid green!"

The crowd erupted. The same people who had been laughing seconds earlier were now staring so hard their eyes practically popped out.

Ten minutes later, after a jeweler wired $1.4 million directly into my account, I slipped my brand-new black card into my pocket. With that money, I could finally cut all ties with the Bentleys and start over.

I had barely stepped out of Hawthorne Antique Market when three SUVs rushed in and boxed me into the middle of the street.

The doors flew open, and my adoptive mother, Whitney Bentley, climbed out with several bodyguards. Her eyes were bloodshot as she shrieked, "You little curse! Conor was just in a car accident! Both his legs are ruined! This is all your fault!

"Tie her up and take her to the hospital! I don't care if you have to drain every last drop of her blood. Conor is going to live!"

Half a month later, an underground antique auction was being held in Westhaven.Dressed in a haute couture evening gown, I entered the venue with my arm linked through Julian's.The moment I took my seat, I felt someone staring at me.I turned to see Serena. She was wearing heavy makeup and clinging to the arm of an overweight, nouveau riche old man. After the Bentleys went bankrupt, she'd latched onto Warren Oakley, a coal tycoon, in a desperate attempt to claw her way back into high society. The moment she saw me sitting in the front row among the VIPs, jealousy burned in her eyes. Grinding her teeth, she silently vowed to humiliate me at today's auction and win back her pride.Halfway through the auction, a massive rough gem, nearly as tall as a person, was wheeled onto the stage. The auctioneer praised it endlessly, claiming it had just been brought in from an old mine in British Columbia and had an excellent chance of containing top-grade Canadian nephrite jade. The openin

"What?!" Mom nearly dropped her phone in terror.Conor was her whole world. She instantly forgot all about coming after me.Whirling around, she grabbed Serena by the arm. "Serena! You have the same type with Conor! Come with me to the hospital and save Conor!"Without waiting for an answer, Mom dragged the terrified Serena toward the hospital.By the time they arrived, Conor was lying on a gurney, his face waxy and pale. The bandages around his thigh were completely soaked through with blood. He was barely hanging on, and his breaths were shallow and weak."Conor... Conor!" Mom threw herself over him, sobbing uncontrollably.Seeing his eyes slowly beginning to close, she seized Serena's hand. "Serena! Didn't you say you'd let them drain every drop of your blood if it meant saving your brother? Go with the nurse. Hurry! Save him!"Serena shrieked and violently pulled her hand away. "I'm not donating blood! It'll leave needle marks! What if it ruins my skin?"Disgust flashed acr

Serena excitedly pulled out the black card."We still have the black card Addison stole! Once we withdraw the money, we can pay off part of the debt and get Conor's legs treated!"Mom snapped out of her daze. Hope flared in her eyes. She snatched the card from Serena's hand and rushed straight to the bank."Hurry! Withdraw a million dollars in cash immediately!" Mom slapped the black card down on the counter as arrogantly as ever, acting as though she were still the untouchable socialite she used to be.The bank manager saw the elite black card and personally came out to assist them. Mom froze. Her phone slipped from her hand and hit the floor, the screen shattering on impact. The color drained from her face. Her knees buckled, and she collapsed to the ground."No... That's impossible... My money..."Suddenly, she jerked her head up and glared at me with bloodshot eyes. "You! Addison! You did this, didn't you?! You counted down on purpose to curse me! You ungrateful little snake!"Seeing the panic on Mom's face, Serena immediately rushed over and threw her arms around her. Then she looked up at Julian with tear-filled eyes. "Mr. Foster, Addison was devastated after finding out she wasn't the Bentleys' biological daughter. That's why she's pulling these ridiculous tricks to fool everyone."She went to all this trouble just to sneak in here today. She even threw herself at you so she'd have someone powerful to back her while she got revenge on us."Please don't let her innocent face fool you. I couldn't bear to see someone as respected as you become nothing mo

The Bentley family was on the verge of sinking, yet they were still throwing around what little money they had left to put on this lavish celebration.I took a slow sip of champagne. Watching their ridiculous performance, I couldn't help laughing."And you still have the gall to laugh?!" Mom snapped, raising her hand to strike me again. At that moment, the ballroom doors swung open. The entire room fell silent.A man stepped inside. His commanding presence alone was enough to chill the air.It was Julian Foster, the legendary heir to the Foster family, a man renowned among Westhaven's elite for his ruthless decisiveness. He was also the man I'd run into outside the hospital.Conor sucked in a sharp breath, nearly toppling out of his wheelchair in excitement.
