Chapter 4

Autor: Anonymous
In the hospital, the pungent smell of disinfectant invaded my nostrils.

The sunlight from the window shone on my face, and I instinctively reached out to shield my eyes.

The nurse next to me exclaimed, "Kid, don't move! Your wound is too severe. If you were a few minutes late, you might have needed an amputation!"

I was stunned, wondering, 'Yes, how could I have forgotten about my condition? However, more importantly, the competition I had been longing for…'

I forced myself to sit up with all my strength, my voice hoarse as I spoke. "Miss, has the national sprint competition ended? How did it go?"

The nurse thought I was just a sprint enthusiast and came over to tuck my blanket under me with a smile. "It just ended this morning. I heard that a kid named Simon Ahern won the championship. How young and promising! He was so full of spirit when he was on the podium. How enviable."

The nurse next to her heard our conversation and came over to join us. "Yeah, some people are just lucky. Not only is he the national champion now, but he also has a beautiful girlfriend cheering for him. When the results were announced, the two of them hugged each other. That was something right out of a romance drama!"

The two chatted back and forth, neither noticing my increasingly pale and unwell expression.

Simon won the championship. His so-called girlfriend must be Cecelia, if I was not mistaken.

Pure friendship? How ridiculous.

I suddenly reached out and grabbed the sleeve of the doctor next to me. "Doctor, will my legs ever fully recover?"

The doctor probably felt sorry for me, seeing how young I was. He avoided looking me in the eye. "Walking normally will be no problem, but you won’t be able to do strenuous exercise. Oh, young man, you're still young; don't lose hope in life."

His statement felt like a bucket of cold water poured on my face, completely shattering all my hopes.

My life used to be all about training and studying, but now I had to accept that I could never run again. That would be difficult.

While I was stunned, the door was suddenly pushed open.

Simon swaggered in, pulling Cecelia along, wearing the medal I had always dreamed of.

My face was frigid. "What are you two doing here? Are you upset that I'm still alive?"

Simon immediately put on a guilty look. "I'm so sorry, Spencer. I didn't know this would happen. Besides, I came to see you as soon as the competition ended, just in case you wouldn't be able to take it."

He placed the medal beside my pillow. "I know this medal means a lot to you too. I came to share this joy with you."

I slammed the medal to the ground. "Cut the good-guy act. Don't you know Cecelia ruined my leg because of you?"

Cecelia was shocked by my reaction. She then stepped forward and confronted me angrily. "Have you lost your mind? Why are you telling him that? Besides, your leg won't get better; what's the point of taking it out on us?"

I suddenly found the scene hilarious.

I would always remember Simon's defiant gaze when he lured me to the rooftop. He said Cecelia would be his sooner or later and told me to stay away from her. He even said Cecelia would do anything for him if he said the word.

Back then, I thought he was just bragging, but it turned out it was all true.

I grabbed the water glass on the table again and threw it at him. "Both of you get out! I never want to see your disgusting faces again!"

Cecelia was startled and instinctively shielded Simon behind her. "You're insane! We came all this way to see you, yet this is how you treat us?"

I felt a sharp pain in my temples, my head feeling like it was going to explode. Just before I passed out, I used all my remaining strength to tell her, "Cecelia, let's break up."

It had been three years since we last met. I heard that she had given up treatment and missed the best time for recovery. She was now completely dependent on a wheelchair for the rest of her life. After finishing my business meeting, I went to pick up my wife, Ashley Reagan, from work.Just as I was exiting the underground garage, I ran into Cecelia. She looked much more haggard than before, nothing like the radiant woman she used to be.After learning about what Cecelia had done to me, my aunt secretly used her influence to suppress her family's business. The Holt family declared bankruptcy last year, and she had had a hard time over the years. When she saw me, a surprised expression appeared on her face. "Spencer! Why are you here? Are... Are you here to see me?"No matter how many years had passed, she was still incredibly full of herself.I did not reply, only looking at her. "Why is Simon not with you?"Her eyes contained unconcealed disgust at the mention of his name. "Do

Cecelia's leg was injured, and she was much worse off than me. She would be bound to the wheelchair from now on.Her best friend told me about this. After she finished speaking, she begged me to go and see Cecelia. We were in love; how did we become enemies? However, I had no patience to listen to her, and hung up right away after that. What did Cecelia's well-being have to do with me? I would never forget how my mother died.Janice got sick after returning home and was struggling to adjust to the environment. As soon as I got out of work, I hurried to the hospital. However, Simon suddenly blocked my way just as I reached the third floor. "Spencer? Why are you here? I know. You came here because you heard about Cecelia being in this hospital, right? Didn't you say you had given up on her? I knew this was one of your tricks!" 'Where did this lunatic come from? How would I know which hospital Cecelia is staying in?' I thought as I tried to bypass him and leave.Unexpectedly, he g

  • Basement Betrayal   Chapter 8

We had not seen each other for a long time. Cecelia no longer looked like the confident little princess she once was. She held tightly onto my arm, fearing that I would leave again. Her eyes, full of emotions, started to well up with tears before she could even speak.I frowned as I tried to pull my arm away, but failed. "You must have mistaken me for someone else. We don't know each other."Perhaps not expecting me to be so ruthless, she became even more agonized. "Spencer, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I truly realized my mistake. Could you give me another chance?"However, all she received in response was my indifferent gaze and sneer. "Chance? How many chances have I given you? Have you changed at all? Didn't we come to this point because of all you’ve done? How dare you show your face in front of me?"My retort was as powerful as an atomic bomb. She carefully tried to reach out and touch my face, but I stepped backward, and she could only lower her hand in heartbreak. "Spencer, I'm

"It's my fault for failing to protect you. I did you wrong!"She wanted to take me abroad to find the best doctor to treat my leg. By the time she arranged everything, I was still a little dazed. Was all this really real? Someone who used to barely have enough food to eat had a rich aunt. Returning to the house where I used to live with Cecelia, I felt nothing. Were it not for the photos of my mother that remained here, I would never have returned. My mother left behind a few keepsakes. I myself counted as one keepsake, and our photo album counted as another. While the moving company employees were tidying up the room quietly, Cecelia got the news from somewhere and rushed back from a wine party, tightly hugging me. "Spencer! What are you doing? We were just arguing. You can't move out!"I put my hands in my pockets and took a step backward. "We've broken up. Don't you get it?"Seeing my determined expression, her eyes filled with tears as she choked up and asked, "Have you thought it through? Are you really going to break up with me?"I nodded. "I think what I said is clear."Cecelia's lips curled up as she suddenly took a deep breath and looked at me."Spencer, do you think I can't see past your little tricks? "Yes, she had done even more outrageous things bef

Cecelia's smile froze instantly. She rushed up frantically and grabbed my hand. "Spencer, I've warned you not to cross the line before. Have I been too lenient with you lately?" I refused to look at her face and closed my eyes. "I'm not throwing a fit. You’ve disappointed me. We'll be strangers from now on."Meanwhile, Simon hurried over and pretended to comfort me. "Spencer, don't be like that. Cecelia was worried about your health and rushed here without resting. What more do you want?"This was even more ridiculous.I shot him an icy glance and caught the smugness in his eyes. Clearly, he was happy about our breakup.I smiled slightly. "Isn't this exactly what you wanted? Why pretend?"He froze for a moment, but Cecelia could not hold back any longer. "Don't be ungrateful! Simon is such a kind person, yet you keep slandering him again and again. Have you no conscience?" 'Conscience?' I wondered as I laughed even more exaggeratedly, even ending up crying.'Why didn't she th

Before the last glimmer of light vanished from my sight, I stumbled toward the door and pleaded, even disregarding my manly pride and kneeling. "Cecelia! Cecelia, you can't treat me like this!
