Rejection

I can’t wait for tomorrow to start at the clinic, the past two days have been fine getting to know the town and the people. Well, to be fair, I only got to know my roommate, Melanie, and by town. I mean going around our dorm area and back. Melanie promised to take me around town one of these days but said we will do that when she is free.

She told me she spends a lot of time away from campus but will find time in her busy schedule to show me around. I like Melanie mostly because she distracted me from thinking about Chris and the breakup. Being with her is refreshing, she talks too much and doesn’t mind when I say nothing, as long as I am listening, she is good.

She also admitted that she enjoys going out and drinking. She will do that alone though because I don’t want any distractions, I have a goal and that is to focus on my studies. Going out and partying is the last thing on my mind, the sooner I get my degree the better for me.

I don’t know when Melanie went to bed, but I slept very early after preparing my clothes for the next day. My alarm ringing woke me up, I switched it off then got out of bed and stretched my limbs. I opened the window and smiled. Today seems like it’s going to be a good day.

After preparing I walked to the clinic with a little bounce on my step, the sun was coming out from behind the mountain, and I stopped to watch as it rises. The golden rays of the sun peeking from behind the mountain giving a bright color to the clouds. Beautiful! I smiled then started walking again; the clinic opens at six in the morning, but I start at seven. If I was used to the place already, I would have been there by now but I don’t want to be that person on my first day.

Getting to the clinic, I see it’s already open; I take a deep breath and plastered a smile on my face before walking in. There is a lady at reception, she looks to be in her early thirties and has a friendly face. Good! I think I am going to like her. She smiles when she sees me.

“You must be Miss Williams, the transfer student.” I smile and nod. “That’s me, nice to meet you, please call me Sandra.” She smiles back offering me her hand for a handshake. “Julia, nice to meet you too. I have your schedule right here which will be a little different from the one you received. You see one of our nurses called in sick and we would like you to assist with her duties. Am sorry to do this to you on your first day but we are a small clinic with just a few staff members and when one is absent, we struggle.”

Julia said looking at me apologetically, I wave it off and smile. “Not a problem, I am happy to assist, what do I have to do?” I ask and her smile widens. “I like you already, nothing much just general nurse duties, the doctor will see the patients and you will do the other duties. You know what nurses do, right?” I know what nurses do, I am a medical student and I used to help anywhere I am needed in the hospital besides being in the lab.

“Of course,” she squeals like a pig, and I can’t help but chuckle. This is going to be a wonderful change for me. “Good! Am glad I don’t have to train you, now go straight down this corridor and the door to the left is the nurse’s station, you will meet Susie there and she will tell you what you need to do.” I nod then take my new schedule for the week and head to the nurse’s station.

Susie is nice and is about twenty-eight or so. She shows me around and when the time comes; we get to work. They shared the patients between us, and we do the general stuff after the doctor sees the patients. The day goes by quickly and before I know it, it’s lunch.

Susie takes her lunch first while I continue working, it’s just the two of us so, one must work while the other is on lunch. My patient before lunch is a boy about seven years of age, he has a broken arm and seems to be in a lot of pain but trying to be brave. The doctor sees him then prescribes medication and tells me what I need to do before he leaves.

I was busy putting a sling on the boy’s arm when someone budges in throwing the door rudely open, making it bounce on the wall by the force that was used to open it. I turn around ready to give whoever did that a piece of my mind but when our eyes locked, words got stuck in my throat.

What a handsome devil he is, tall, that I must tilt my head to the side to be able to look at him in the eye. Sharp jaw and he looks like he works out a lot because I can see his muscles popping behind the shirt he has on as if they were going to rip it open, dirty blond hair that looks like he has been running his hand through it many times. Chris has nothing on this guy, I used to think he was the most good-looking guy I have ever laid eyes on, but I was wrong. This is the most good-looking guy I have ever met.

I look at his eyes and they are nice sea blue color that draws me in like the waves in the ocean. There is excitement in his eyes, and I can’t help the small smile that plays on my lips when I notice that. He is excited to see me.

I don’t know what happened, but he suddenly sniffs the air then frowns ruining his facial features then gives me a look like…like he hated me. “Fix him!” he tells me rudely, looking at me with such disdain in his beautiful eyes. Hurt is what I felt when he gave me that look.

I shouldn’t care, I don’t know him, how he looks at me should not matter. But it did for some odd reason. “Sir, I am still busy with a patient, please wait outside and I will attend to you shortly.” Am glad I sounded like I am not affected by him or his looks. He glances at one more time before going out, he doesn’t close the door. How rude!

I continue tending to the boy, but that handsome devil ruined my mood. “Don’t take this off for about a week, so that it heals properly, okay?” I tell the boy and he nods. “Give this note to your mom, she will get your medication on the other side, am sure she knows where.” The boy nods again standing up.

“You are a nice lady, thank you.” He tells me and I smile at him. Before I can even catch my breath, the devil comes in and closes the door behind him. Oh, he has some manners, I see. But he still doesn’t look happy. “What is your full name?” what is it with this guy?

I don’t look at him but focus on the boy he brought in, what is it with these boys and broken limbs? The first one had a broken arm and now this one has a broken leg. “Sandra Williams,” I tell him still not looking at him. Part of me wants to but I will not give in, he is rude.

Dr. Martin comes in, “Good afternoon, hey little man.” He says to the boy and checks on him. The devil doesn’t even acknowledge Doctor Martin. Who does this guy think he is? When the doctor is done with his part, he signs the prescription for the boy’s medication then leaves me to do my part.

When I finish tending to the boy, Mr. Devil takes him and goes out. I sigh in relief when he leaves but luck is not on my side because he comes right back. I am annoyed but I don’t show it. “Anything I can help you with?” he seems to be irritated that I even asked, this is ruining my first day and I don’t like it.

“You are my mate, but I can’t have a human mate, my Luna cannot be a weak and helpless human. I, alpha London Black reject you, Sandra Williams as my mate and Luna.” I looked at him confused about what was happening, I have a lot of questions but the pain in my chest was making it difficult for me to think about something else.

“You have to say your full name then say you accept my rejection.” I looked at him not knowing what to say. What is happening here and why am I feeling so much pain? When I did not say anything, the devil became more irritated. “Say it!” I jumped hearing the harshness of his voice and when I looked at him. He looked scary, I swallowed trying to wet my now dry mouth before saying what he wanted me to say. “I Sandra Williams accept your rejection.” He did not say anything after that, he turned and left the way he came.

I sank on the floor clutching on my chest, I felt like I couldn’t breathe the pain in my chest was too much for me to handle, I can feel myself drifting off and the darkness starting to consume me. Feeling like if I let it take me, then the pain will go away and so, I gave in to the darkness feeling lighter as I do so.
