Luna

Dr. Martin found Sandra laying on the ground, he picked her up and took her to the ward. He checked on her and found that nothing major was wrong with her. That she only fainted, that brought relief to the doctor and thought her sugar levels have caused it.

He left her sleeping and went to do his rounds. He asked Susie to monitor her. Hours later Sandra woke, she realized she was at the clinic. Doctor Martin came in moments later and found her awake. He told her nothing was wrong with her and was not sure why she fainted.

Sandra made an excuse telling him it might be because she did not eat breakfast that morning. The doctor warned her not to do that again before telling her she can rest in her dorm. She left and was accompanied by Susie as the clinic was already closing.

Sandra sat on the bed thinking about what the whole incident was about, but she could not figure it out. A lot of what happened made little sense to her but the emptiness inside her since it happened was still there and very much painful. That alone was a mystery to her, she wondered why she was unlucky in the love department to have men she doesn’t even know rejecting her like that.

The following morning Sandra was back at the clinic working, the nurse was only coming back the following week then she can go to the lab to work on her research projects.

She pretended to be well in front of her colleagues. But deep down she wasn’t, she felt like something was missing since the incident the previous day. She even thought the man used some voodoo to make her feel that way, but she could not understand why. She also has no one to talk to since Melanie has disappeared as she said she would from time to time.

Sandra was just going through the emotions and kept reminding herself that she did not come here for men but to finish her degree. Men have done nothing but hurt her, first her boyfriend and now a stranger. That one will always remain a mystery to her, she has a lot of unanswered questions about the incident.

Like what did he mean when he said he will not have a human for a mate? If not human then what was he, what is this Luna he was talking about? And what is a mate? She was going crazy just thinking about the incident, nothing about it made sense, at least not to her.

Numb is what she became because you can’t break a heart that is already broken. That was what Sandra thought after what happened with Chris but the devil from the previous day showed her that the pain, she felt with Chris was nothing compared to what he will make her feel just by rejecting her for no reason.

Oh, how she hated him for making her feel such pain. Sandra was running out of supplies, so she went looking for Julia to ask for more, she oversaw the distribution of the supplies. When she appeared at reception looking for her, Jake was there but with his back on her, he smelled her scent and spun around. When he saw her, time stopped, and his wolf Raider was jumping around in his head excited. “Mate, mate, mate!” Jake smiled.

When Sandra saw him smiling like that, she thought the devil was a liar, not this time, the devil would not tempt her with another good-looking man that was going to end up breaking her heart again. She refused to fall for it; she turned around trying to avoid the man. She stopped in her tracks when he spoke, cursing in her mind for being so unlucky at everything.

“My name is Jake, and you are?” Sandra turned and saw the silly smile on his face, he noticed she was human when he couldn’t smell her wolf scent, but he did not care. Annoyed but trying hard not to show it she answered “Sandra Williams”

Sandra, what a beautiful name and it sounded better when he said it. He thought “I can tell you are new here; can I take you out for coffee and maybe show you around?” he crossed his fingers hoping she says yes. Sandra felt irritated by him, she had no time for coffee or to be entertaining men, to her they were all the same and she wanted nothing to do with them.

“Am sorry but I will have to decline” She turned to leave but once again he spoke, making Sandra wonder where the hell Julia was. “Please, it’s just coffee, not a date, I will just show you around and you can leave whenever you want to.” Before she could answer Julia appeared holding a box and Sandra felt relieved.

“Hey Sandra, alpha Jake, your parcel.” Jake got nervous when Julia called him alpha, he did not know how much Sandra knew of their kind if she knew about them at all. ‘We have a human present, be mindful of what you say.’ Jake mind linked Julia, Sandra only saw her expression change looking scared, and wondered what is going on.

She wanted to leave but she couldn’t when she saw Julia like that. “Everything alright Julia?” Jake smiled at her, his expression softening as he addressed her. “She is alright, so, what do you say about that coffee?” he annoyed Sandra, why would he answer for Julie, she could clearly see that she was not alright, she seemed to be afraid of this man.

Sandra ignored Jake and looked at Julia waiting for her to answer. Julia cleared her throat before plastering a smile on her face. “Yes, I am fine, what did you need?” Sandra was not convinced, but she decided not to press, at least not in front of the stranger. “I need supplies, I am running out.” She told her but kept on glancing at the stranger who refused to leave.

“I will bring them shortly.” Sandra nodded and glanced at Jake before leaving the reception area. With an apologetic look, Julia looked at her alpha. “Alpha, I am sorry, I forgot Sandra is human and new in town.” Jake did not care about her apology; all he could think about was how to get his mate to agree to spend time with him.

“She is your Luna, treat her well.” It shocked Julie to hear that. “I will take care of her alpha.” She blurted. “She is human, and I don’t know what to do to get her to spend time with me. She can’t feel the mate bond the way we do and it will take time for her to feel it. What do I do?” Julie was lost for words.

She was also a werewolf and does not know how humans do it. But she figured that every woman needs attention. “Bring her flowers next time you come, am sorry alpha but I am not sure how this works with humans but don’t give up on her.” Jake shook his head. “I will never give up on her, she is mine.” It was the first time he felt light and happy since his father died.

The alpha of the Crescent Moon pack was killed in a rogue attack about a month ago, Jake hasn’t been himself since the incident, even now he only came to town to get parts for his father’s old car they were fixing together before he was killed. The pack doctor was the one who called and asked him to bring the medical supplies that were delivered to the clinic.

If it wasn’t for her, he wouldn’t have come and wouldn’t have met his mate. “I will be back tomorrow, please Julia, keep an eye on her,” he begged looking in the direction Sandra disappeared to. Raider his wolf whimpered in his head wanting them to go to their mate. ‘Don’t worry, she is ours and soon she will not want to be away from us.’ Jake tried to comfort his wolf.

He stood at the reception area contemplating whether to leave or wait a little longer to see if he can’t catch a glimpse of his mate one more time before he leaves. Julia was standing awkwardly behind the desk not knowing what to say to her alpha. But she could not wait to go back to the pack and tell everyone about their Luna, she liked Sandra; she was nice.

And she was happy that Melanie will stop boasting about being the next Luna because she was sleeping with their alpha. Jake is twenty-two and has not found his mate. He tried to look for her since he turned eighteen but with no luck, as time went by, he started seeing Melanie.

It was like the girl got what she always wanted; she met her mate and rejected him because he was a warrior and told him she was going to be a Luna. Since then, she has been acting like the future Luna of the pack, treating others like they were beneath her and they never said anything since she was dating the alpha.

They were afraid of offending the future Luna but now; they don’t have to be afraid anymore, their alpha has found his mate. Julia was so happy she wanted to scream, sing, and dance with joy. But she couldn’t, Jake was still standing there looking like a lost puppy. “I will see you back at the packhouse.” Julia nodded but Jake took his time leaving.

When Julia heard his truck leave, she could not hold it anymore, she started screaming then singing and dancing around. Sandra was the first to appear to investigate, she stopped in her tracks when she saw Julia dancing. “Julia, what’s wrong?” asked Doctor Martin as soon as he appeared behind Sandra followed by Susie.

Julia stopped dancing and looked at them with a smile. “Am sorry doctor, I just got good news and I couldn’t contain my excitement.” Doctor Martin shook his head then turned and left. Sandra chuckled shaking her head. “Oh, Julie, you are going to give us a heart attack one of these days.” Julia smiled widely liking the pet name her Luna just gave her.

“I wouldn’t dare Luna, I mean Sandra.” Sandra frowned, there is that name again, Luna. Does Julie know what or who this Luna is? Sandra wondered. When Julia saw her like that, she kept herself busy with files, Sandra opened her mouth to ask but Julia beat her to it. “Supplies! Yes, you wanted supplies, let me go get them.”

She hurried and left Sandra standing there. Sandra looked at her back as she walked away. Weird, she thought but stood at reception waiting for her supplies. That Luna person of thing got her rejected by a stranger and she wanted to know who or what it was. She promised herself that she will find time to ask Julie about it.
