3 Days Before The Court Marriage

.

.

IT WAS EIGHT A.M on a Saturday morning when I finally woke up to the Movers waiting at the door of my apartment.

“Good morning, ma'am,” One of them greeted politely. “We are here on Mr. Massimo’s orders to move your things.”

“Oh,” I hold the door wide open even though I was still in my pajamas. “Come on in.”

I watched as they entered into the apartment and within an hour, all of my belongings and personal effects were being packed into large boxes.

My phone rang almost immediately.

“Good morning,” It was Massimo.

“Good morning,” I greeted groggily.

“My driver will be coming over to pick you and Erik this afternoon. Are the Movers packing your stuff yet?”

“Yes, they are,” I headed into the bedroom where Erik was now wide awake and kicking at the air in his little cot.

“Awesome. I'm in the office right now but I'll meet you at home when I return.” He remarks in that deep guttural voice of his.

I'm tempted to swoon over his voice whe

(Pamela)..3 Days Before The Court Marriage ..I LET OUT a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. Erik lets out a small whimper, and it seems like he senses the tension in the room too. I press a kiss to his head and walk us over to the bed where I gently lay him down beside me.“Great,” I whisper. “Day one and the butler is already issuing me a warning.”The silence stretches in thick voids around us. I turn to face him. “Do you think I'm doing the right thing? Would Anna be proud of my choices?”In response, Erik squirms against me until I hand him a rattle from one of the nearby boxes. The moment he grabs it, he breaks into a gummy smile.I can’t help but smile too. “At least you’re happy.”The door to the bedroom suddenly opens and one of the maids pokes her head I'm. She looked around Anna’s age, nineteen, and she was fair and beautiful. I instantly take a liking to her.“Good afternoon, ma'am,” She greeted warmly. “Would you mind if I set up the bath for you?”“Eh … sure!”

  • Be Careful With My Heart    Chapter 44

(Pamela)..THE RIDE BACK HOME IS TENSE.I can feel Massimo sneaking glances at me from time to time but I dare not return the favor. I'm still not over the fact that yesterday I was quite single and today, I'm a legally married woman…all in a span of twenty-four hours. My eyes fall on the stunning silver ring now fitted on my ring ringer. I reach out and begin to trace the band which is decorated with a row of small sparkling diamonds that catches the sunlight at every corner. I don’t need anyone to tell me that this costs a fortune.Seriously, Massimo needs to tone down on purchasing very expensive rings that serve no real purpose. The silence of the car is immediately cut short by the shrieking ringtone of Massimo’s IPhone sitting on the dashboard-mount between us. He reaches out slowly to pick up the phone. “Excuse me,” he says. For the next few minutes, he speaks into the cellphone in that strange language he'd used on the plane, which I'm now beginning to suspect is Greek…or

  • Be Careful With My Heart    Chapter 43

(Pamela)..I AM NOW A MARRIED WOMAN.I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the realisation that not only am I married, I'll have to deal with a whole new life for two solid years. On the bright side, I'll be financially compensated for all the troubles and by the time the two years is up, I'll be set for life. I already got started out with a black card and a monthly allowance. I just need to stick through till the end. When the court wedding ends and I'm done signing the signatures, I look over at Massimo to see his reaction. He looks completely indifferent, almost as if all this hassle is nothing. His publicist, Veronica, bounds over to us, her lips stretching into a wild smile. “Congratulations, you two,” She started out. “That was beautiful to watch.”Beautiful doesn’t even come close to how I'm feeling inside. I feel like a wreck. Like I'm making a terrible mistake and it's too late to right all the wrongs. How is it possible that I feel this way, despite all the benefits at

  • Be Careful With My Heart    Chapter 42

(Massimo)..I WAIT PATIENTLY by the car, for Pamela to come outside.By this time, my phone is already blowing up with messages and calls. I guess it's not every day a mam of my caliber decides to get married again. In my family, it's a tradition to only marry once. The only exception, of course, is if you lose your spouse through death. That's one of the reasons my mother didn't take it too kindly with Pamela when she first met her. Not that it's her fault or anyone else's for that matter.“Massimo,” Kal's voice reaches me next after the last phone call from a business associate. “I wish you all the best today, brother. Happy married life.”“Save it,” I respond a bit harshly. Need I remind him whose fault this is in the first place? “How's everything going over there?”“We're still on the lookout for Marco,” he answers solemnly.“So … nothing?”“As of now, yes,” he says. “But I promise that before the month ends, we'll come up with something.”“Okay —” Before I can complete my sen

  • Be Careful With My Heart    Chapter 41

(Massimo)..THE DAY I NEVER THOUGHT WOULD COME is finally here.If someone had told me a few months ago that I would be remarrying and not just to anyone but the same woman who made my life a living hell at some point, I would have found it hard to believe. In two hours, we'll be headed to the court house where a brief ceremony will take place. There's an ache in the pit of my stomach that I can't even describe, but one thing is certain: my life wouldn't be the same anymore. Not after this marriage. I stare at my reflection in the mirror and the memories keep flooding back, almost as if it had happened yesterday rather than five years prior. One is of me adjusting the cufflinks of my suit and Elsa frowning behind me and complaining about my tie not being straight. “It looks completely lopsided,” she pouted, her arms crossed like a strict mother hen. “You should look perfect while meeting with your international clients, honey.”“Darling, it's okay,” I chuckled as I adjusted said

(Pamela)..One Week Later…..“THE DAY I'VE BEEN DREADING is finally here. No, it isn't moving into Massimo’s luxurious estate shortly after coming back home from Italy.Nor is it sitting with the host of a famous reality show and having an interview about our relationship in front of numerous cameras. No, it's that day I finally and willingly sign my name on the marriage certificates with Massimo by my side doing the exact same thing.Because in less than two hours, I'll be at the courthouse getting married to a man that I never ever thought was possible.A man who walked into my life out of the blues, ruined everything I thought I knew about peace, and now I’m going to legally call him my husband. The irony of it all isn’t lost on me.My reflection in the mirror looks nothing like the woman I was just months ago. It's like it's a whole different person staring back at me.In a different timeline, I would have been putting on a long, wedding dress, preparing myself to walk down

  • Be Careful With My Heart    Chapter 39

(Massimo)..THE LINE RINGS three times before the man on the other end picks it up."Yes?" His voice is a bit cautious. In this line of business, you need to be careful who you speak with or you'll risk getting into a whole lot of trouble."It's me, Massimo," I say, pressing my hand to my forehead as I feel the migraine slowly creeping in. "We need to talk."Giuseppe's breath hitches. I haven't spoken to him since that night in Milan two years ago when everything went to hell. But he still has the connections I need right now so he has no choice but to put our differences aside and cooperate."This isn't a good time, Massimo.""Marco's betrayed us." I don't waste time with pleasantries. "I need to know who he's working for immediately."The silence on the other end stretches long enough that I wonder if he's hung up. Then, his raspy voice I've learned to tolerate fills my ears. "Shit. Are you sure?""Am I sure?” My bile in my voice is enough to send him spiralling. “I've got the m

(Massimo)..“I APOLOGISE FOR my mother's behaviour,” I say to Pamela shortly after dinner. “She's a bit insensitive when it comes to these things.”We are on the way up to the guest room where she'll be spending the rest of the night, and so far, I can tell that she isn't too happy with the way the whole dinner affair turned out.Part of it is my fault. I should have warned her that my mother is a very difficult woman who is hard to please. Even her own children have to wear a tough skin around her. She exhales a deep breath as we trudge up the stairs. “I wouldn't blame her. I too would be sceptical of whoever wants to marry my wealthy son.”“She's always been that way so don't take it as a personal attack.”“Trust me, I don’t, “ she yawns. “Now, I will just like to go to sleep.”“Yes, yes,” I say as I lead the way to the bedroom. “I won't keep you waiting. You deserve your beauty sleep.”As she walks inside her room drowsy and tired, I feel this strange urge to protect her. Espec
