ARYM ZCHRYNNE “MaiMai” –
I filed for leave today so I could prepare early for the surprise dinner I planned for Jasper. Today is our first wedding anniversary. I’m excited to finally tell him about the arrival of our little angel. I’m sure he’ll be happy—he loves children.
I asked the house staff to help with the cooking. But since this day is so special to me, I wanted to be the one to cook for my husband.
While waiting for Jasper to arrive, I took a shower, dressed in something sexy, and rested for a bit. I didn’t realize I had fallen asleep. I panicked when I woke up—it was already past nine.
Jasper still wasn’t home. He hadn’t sent a single message. I tried calling him three times, but each time he declined my call. I stopped trying—maybe he was really busy. I decided to just wait.
“I hope he comes home early today… it’s our anniversary,” I whispered sadly to myself. I was starting to feel hungry.
Thinking of the baby in my belly, I ate a little of the dessert I had made.
I waited a few more hours, and since I’m pregnant, I got sleepy again quickly. I tried to stay awake.
“Ma’am MaiMai, please rest in your room. I’ll wait for sir,” said Manang Lila, concerned.
“I’m okay, Manang. You go ahead and rest. I’ll take care of things here.”
“Are you sure, ma’am? Just call us if you need anything.” I smiled and nodded at her.
“It’s already midnight,” I muttered, shoulders slumped as I walked to the kitchen. I forced myself to eat a little of the food I had prepared—for the sake of my child. I didn’t bother the staff to clean up. I did it myself.
After tidying up, I went upstairs to change into my sleepwear. I looked at myself in the mirror, feeling sad.
“You’ve really let yourself go. Maybe that’s why he can’t love you—because of how you look. When was the last time you fixed yourself up?” I laughed at myself. I just realized that ever since Jasper and I got married, I hadn’t taken care of anyone but him.
I stared at my reflection for a long time—messy hair, dark circles under my eyes, pale skin, and a slightly bloated body. In other words, I looked worn out. The beautiful figure I once had, often flaunted, was now hidden under oversized clothes. My skin was still fair and smooth, my hair long and straight—but I hadn’t even brushed it all day.
Unlike my husband, who still looked so handsome. Tall, fair-skinned, a sharp nose, seductive lips, gray eyes, and always smelling good. His father is American, after all. I hope our baby inherits his looks—especially those eyes.
I was already lying in bed when Jasper arrived. I picked up a book to distract myself. I felt sad, but I didn’t want to dwell on it—it wouldn’t be good for the baby.
“You’re still awake. Good, I have something to tell you.”
He spoke as if today wasn’t special at all.
“I also have something to tell you… but you go first,” I said seriously. I still planned to tell him about our child.
“Let me change first.” Jasper spent a few minutes in the bathroom. While he was inside, his phone kept ringing. I peeked at the caller—something I wish I hadn’t done.
“Babe Yas,” I read softly from the screen. I froze. My mind raced with awful thoughts.
The bathroom door opened just as the call ended. Clearly, he had taken a shower.
He grabbed a bottle of alcohol and went out to the terrace, which was just beside our bed. I watched his broad back, wondering if he had truly forgotten our anniversary. Did it mean nothing to him? And who was that caller—“Babe Yas”? Could it be his ex-girlfriend? Her name was Yasmine, so it was likely her. My heart ached again.
Jasper walked over and handed me a folder from the table. His gaze was cold.
I took it from him, feeling a strange sense of dread.
“Annulment papers?” I asked, looking into his eyes. I held back my tears. Was this because of the woman he loved?
“Yes. I already signed it. Yours is the only signature missing—but it can wait until tomorrow,” he said casually. Meanwhile, I was shattered.
“After you sign it, I want us to—”
“I understand. I’ll sign it tomorrow. I just want to sleep now, if that’s okay? It’s already 2 a.m.”
He wanted to say more, but I didn’t let him finish. I didn’t want to hear anything else. Even though I was deeply hurt, I didn’t show any sadness or tears in front of him. At least in that moment, I could save a little dignity. I didn’t want to look pitiful.
“Alright. Let’s sleep then,” he said calmly.
I felt Jasper wrap his arms around me from behind and kiss the top of my head. I faced away from him—I didn’t want him to see me cry.
I waited until he was fast asleep. I wouldn’t wait for morning—I would leave on my own. I still had some pride left.
My tears fell onto the annulment papers as I signed them. I covered my mouth tightly to keep from making a sound.
I had already packed a few things. I didn’t bring much when I came here anyway. With a heavy heart, I removed our wedding ring and placed it on top of the annulment papers.
I stared at Jasper one last time and kissed him on the lips. I had no plans of ever showing myself to him again. And if fate ever brought us together again, I was determined not to let him know about our child. I would keep that secret for the rest of my life.
“If the day ever comes when we meet again by chance, I hope the pain in my heart is gone—and that we’re both happy with our lives. Thank you for the beautiful gift you left me. I will care for and love our child for as long as I live.”

I'm not talkative when I'm drunk; as my ex-husband used to say, I'm only loud in bed.Wait. Why do I always mention him? I just rolled my eyes in my mind. I messaged Sven and my child again. Zanyca must be asleep by now because her last message said she was going to sleep. Sven had been waiting for my reply for a while, so I messaged him that I was going to sleep too. Some people were still drinking when Jane and I left. The couple escorted me to my room. It was at the far end. I was dizzy, but I still needed to wash up before sleeping. I wanted to swim in the sea, but I was afraid something might happen to me, and I'd be mistaken for a mermaid. I'll just swim in the sea near our house instead. After showering, I immediately lay down because my body was really tired and sleepy. I wasn't full

I didn’t want him to—my friends would definitely see him, and I didn’t want any drama. But he’s so good at guilt-tripping me.Just because I saw my ex-husband again, he said I was already pushing him aside. He started saying all sorts of things, so I just agreed to avoid the drama.I don’t actually have work tomorrow since it’s Friday. That’s why Sven was so persistent—he said the trip would be long and we’d head straight to my parents’ place afterward.I was sweating from the nerves earlier, so I took off my blazer. My beige mini dress was backless, exposing my back.“You and Papa Sven took forever!” Virgilio teased.I didn’t respond—just smiled at him. But in my head, I’d already slapped him a dozen times.“Hey, bestie, who was that? You haven’t told me anything.” Jane asked as I sat down.“Nothing to tell. He’s just the godfather of—” I s

I wasn’t sure if there were truly no other seats available, or if he deliberately placed my ex-husband right in front of me.I felt someone sit down across from me. Not to assume, but it felt like he was staring at me. I was slightly hunched over, fiddling with my phone.I smiled when I read Zanyca’s message:“Mommy, grandfather taught me how to catch a fish. I’m so happy ‘cause I caught a big one—they called it tilapia! And grandfather caught some crabs too. It’s so scary, my gosh!”I could already imagine her face while telling the story.Suddenly, the room went quiet. I felt like everyone was looking in my direction. I frowned and looked up at Virgilio, raising an eyebrow. He was grinning from ear to ear. The couple looked like they were about to faint from excitement, and I had no

It was as if someone had been watching my every move from somewhere nearby.I tried to ignore the creeping anxiety. It would be embarrassing to suddenly leave in the middle of the wedding.Jane was overjoyed when I told her I’d attend her wedding. I even promised to stay overnight at the resort where the ceremony and reception were being held. I agreed, on the condition that I’d leave early the next morning because of work. My friends accepted that excuse—though it was just that, an excuse.“My expired bestie!!! I missed you so much. You look stunning! You’ve gotten even prettier and sexier. That short hair suits you perfectly.”Jane rushed toward me, excited. We hugged tightly. I hugged her groom too. I never thought these two friends of mine would actually end up together. Imagine—both of them have feminin

He was handsome too, just as tall as Sven and still quite young. Maybe just a few years older than me, but I didn’t like the way he looked at me.“Thanks, but no, Architect. I don’t drink alcohol,” I declined respectfully.“Oh, I see. I’m sorry about that,” he replied with a smile. He didn’t seem offended by my refusal.Sven had gone to the restroom for a moment, so I was alone at our table.“Do you need anything, Architect Lopez?” came Sven’s baritone voice. His brows were furrowed, clearly displeased.“Nothing, Mr. Tan. I just offered Ms. MaiMai a drink.”“Thanks for the offer, but she doesn’t drink alcohol.”“Yeah, she already told me. Sorry again.”They exchanged a tense look, but Architect Lopez was the first to break eye contact. He excused himself, leaving just me and Sven. We didn’t join our c

We had an office there for transactions. As usual, Sven want
