Catalina
I've spent days thinking of an escape plan but so far I've come up with nothing. The house was guarded, wherever I went there was at least one man with a gun. I was only allowed to go out if there was a group of bodyguards with me. It was frustrating but I continued with my activities normally to avoid raising suspicions. I cooked breakfast knowing fully well he wouldn't eat, I danced for him whenever he wanted, I went out with my security without complaining. Trust….I was building trust so that when the time came for me to escape it would be so easy.
My problem was Gabriella. She treated me like an outcast. She only talked to me when it was very necessary or when I asked her a question. I was lonely in that mansion and I thought we could become friends. Friends my foot. Gabriella would be the first to report me to Miguel if she has even the slightest idea of my escape plan.
Miguel. He seemed more occupied these days. Maybe a serious issue in the mafia world. I didn't want to bother myself with those things. The thought of the activities they partake in makes me sick to my bones. Wait…..sick!! I just got a brilliant idea.
The next morning, I didn't make breakfast and I remained in my room the whole day. I didn't make breakfast the next day too and I stayed inside. Later in the day, Gabriella came to my room.
“Miguel sent me to check up on you. He wants to know why you haven't made breakfast.”
“Not like he eats it anyway.” “And if he wants to know he can ask me himself.”
“Don't get cute with me Catalina. Give me an answer.”
“I'm sick.”
For a moment she looked as if she didn't believe me.
“I'll call a doctor.”
“No!” Calling a doctor will ruin my plans. “I need to go to the hospital!”
“Why?”
Think fast Cat, think fast.
“I need an x-ray,” I blurted out.
“Why?”
“I can only tell Miguel the reason.”
“Okay then.” Gabriella looked unbothered. She quietly walked out and shut the door. I'm sure she'd make a phone call to Miguel.
Miguel came straight to my room as soon as he got back. He knocked furiously at my door, I purposely waited for a while before opening it.
“What game are you playing Catalina? What do you mean by an x-ray?!” He raised his voice and looked me dead in the eye. This wasn't the time to be scared, I told myself.
“I'm not playing games, I need one.” I replied calmly.
“For what?”
“When you pushed me against the wall like a mad dog!! Didn't you think it'd hurt?”
“That was like a week ago.”
“It still hurts! And on top of it all I still had to dance for you. The pain has become unbearable. At this rate I might not be able to dance again.” I lied.
The look on his face was mortifying, I guess the thought of me not dancing again really haunted him.
“You're going to the hospital first thing tomorrow morning. Goodnight.”
This is it. Tomorrow, I'll be out of this place and Miguel's life.

I wore light clothes in case I needed to run. I hid extra money in my bra and I made sure I ate enough that morning. As we got ready to leave, I looked around the house for the last time. This place felt like a prison and I was finally going to be free from its shackles.
Miguel instructed five bodyguards to go with me, Gabriella was coming too. We drove quietly to the hospital, it was very big. Two men stayed at the entrance to look out while three followed me in with Gabriella. As we walked, I scanned the area thoroughly, working out my plan.
I thought I'd have to wait for a while to see a doctor but at the mention of Miguel's name I was attended to immediately.
Gabriella followed me to the doctor's office where I explained my fake symptoms and how desperately I needed an x-ray to know if I had a broken bone. The doctor told me I'd be ready to go in for an x-ray in two minutes. I have two minutes to get rid of Gabriella.
“I left my phone in the car, can you help me get it?”
“You'll get your phone once we're done here.”
“I want to call Miguel.”
“Use my phone.”
“I don't think Miguel will be happy if I tell him about this.” I threatened.
“He'll understand.” She stretched out her hand and offered me her phone.
Shit. This is not going as planned.
“I need some privacy.”
“Why?”
“Did Miguel tell you the reason I need an x-ray?”
“No.”
“Then I don't think you need to hear this.”
“I'll be outside.”
Think fast Catalina.
I dialed Miguel's number, then I held my stomach tightly and made a disgruntled moan. I pushed open the door and handed over the phone to Gabriella.
“Talk to Miguel, I need to use the restroom urgently…….ahh….my stomach” I continued holding my stomach and ran quickly towards the direction of the toilet. Gabriella made a move to follow me but I heard Miguel's voice on the phone and she stopped to answer. Good. The bodyguards wouldn't follow me to a female restroom and I had like one minute before Gabriella came to check on me.
I moved fast. My only obstacle was the guys at the entrance but I had an idea as I ran past a doctor's office. Luckily it wasn't locked, so I entered inside and grabbed the coat hanging there and put it on.
Sorry to whoever owned this.
If I keep my head down and quickly walk past them, they wouldn't notice me. Gabriella should be looking for me by now, but I'd be long gone before she dreams of catching me.
I walked as quickly as I could, running would attract attention to me and I didn't want attention. The guards placed at the entrance weren't there anymore. Why did they leave their position? I wondered. Better for me anyway. I was out of the hospital now, I only needed to get a cab and I'll finally be free. I waved down a taxi and got in.
“Where to ma'am?”
“Train station please.”
I buried my head in my laps and sobbed quietly. This was it. My freedom. I didn't need to be a slave to such a dangerous man or be a part of his dark underworld. I would go to a nice little village and start my life again.
Suddenly, the car stopped.
Were we already at the station?
I raised my head and almost fainted in shock.
I was in front of Miguel's huge gate and there he was…. standing in front of my car with a gun in his hand.
CATALINAGabriella stopped me as I tried to open the door.“You can't just barge in!”“Of course I can, that's exactly why we planned this operation. He may not be with Pablo now but I'll learn something if I go in there.”“It's dangerous.”“It will be dangerous for them, not me. They killed my husband, they should be scared…of me.”I grabbed a gun. “Are you coming?”“Yes.”I went in with Gabriella and three men while the rest surrounded the house. One of the men broke the door and we rushed in and my eyes saw what I never imagined it would see.Andrés and Olivia, kissing. They got startled when they saw us and immediately disentangled from each other.Andrés laughed. “I should have known it was too good to be true when you left me with a knife and the door open.”“You should have known, I thought you were smart.”I weighed Olivia from head to toe. If I was being honest with myself, she was beautiful and pretty hot. “We finally meet, Olivia.”She held her stance with confidence. “I c
CATALINAThe air in the basement was cold and damp, heavy with the scent of sweat, iron, and fear. A rusted table stood in the center of the room, littered with tools like pliers, knives, and other cruel instruments arranged carefully. A lot had happened in the space of a few hours.Andrés sat sprawled to the ground, tied up and bleeding. He hadn't even been there for a full 24 hours but I made sure he got tortured to the bones, and even then, he refused to say a word…not a single word. His eyes, filled with hate, stared at me as I walked in. He didn't regard me, I could tell. And I knew he wouldn't tell me a thing, but still…“Hello Andrés,” I greeted, squatting down to meet his eyes.Silence hung in the air.“It's already noon,” I said quietly. “Right now, I should be off somewhere, enjoying my honeymoon with Miguel. He never told me the destination, he said it was a surprise. But I know Miguel would have taken me somewhere nice, somewhere I'd like. It's impossible now, isn't it? B
CATALINAI froze in fear as Andrés approached me, a dark and menacing glint in his eyes. A look that meant he was ready to kill, to end me right there and then. I glanced around me hoping to find something, anything to defend myself with.…but there was nothing.I swallowed hard. Would I join Miguel wherever he was now? But I had life growing in me, I didn't want to die.“Stop Andrés!” My eyes darted towards the door. I breathed in relief as I saw Gabriella standing there with a gun in her hand.“Gabriella,” Andrés smirked. “Are you seriously going to save this woman? She never trusted you. We can end her, we can run this place together, you can be of so much help to me.”“You killed my brother!” Gabriella shook.“Your brother never cared about you! He only used you as an errand girl and when a slight misunderstanding happened, what did he do? He casted you away, for this woman,” Andrés pointed accusing fingers at me.I swallowed hard. “Don't listen to him, Gabriella.”“Shut up, Catal
CATALINANo!Miguel cannot be dead. What nonsense was Andrés spewing?Must be a joke. A prank! I breathed deeply and let out a bitter laugh.“Is this a joke?”But Andrés didn't look like he was joking, he held me tightly, patting my back as a way of comfort.“Stop it,” I ordered. “Stop treating me like a woman in mourning, Miguel is not dead.”He let me go slowly. “I hope so too. I deeply wish it isn't true and I don't have to be the one sharing such bad news.” “But I don't want to believe what you are saying, because it's not true!” I glanced at Gabriella, she stood there like a statue, she was probably in shock too.“You don't believe him right? You don't believe that your brother is dead, do you?”“Explain it to us, Andrés,” Gabriella murmured.“There was an explosion at the front. I saw him go down, Catalina. We couldn’t get to him in time, the fire spread too quickly. There was nothing left, except…”“Except what?”He brought out a burnt ring…Miguel's ring, the ring we just ex
CATALINAI had a nightmare.I jolted up, drenched in sweat and panting like a chased deer. Miguel left me, and I kept looking for him, running around. Then I fell and screamed out his name, but he didn't answer, and he didn't come to save me either.“Are you okay?” He woke up too and gave me a calming hug.I held him tight, scared to let go. “Promise me you'll never leave,” I said between pants. “Don't ever leave me..”Miguel chuckled lightly. “Are you having doubts on our wedding day?”Oh yes. I remembered. Today is supposed to be my wedding day. Could be why I had such a scary nightmare.“I just had a bad dream, that's all.” I assured him.He gave me a comforting kiss. “You're nervous, I understand. But I'm still going to say this… I, Miguel Alejandro, will never leave you Catalina.”I tried to ease the weight pressing on my chest with a teasing smile. “Save the vows for later.”“I can say my vows to you everyday if it'll assure you of my undying love.”I believed him. Miguel woul
MIGUELWas it the upcoming wedding or Pablo that made me so uneasy?I was ready, ready to fight, to spill blood if it was for Catalina's sake. But she told me to hold off, and there was no way I could refuse her request when she looked at me with those eyes. She enchanted me. Like a stubborn witch. And if my witch wanted me all to herself, who was I to say no?Her wish was my command.I took Andrés with me to get a new suit. It was funny though…when I married Olivia I wasn't bothered about looking good. But with Catalina, I went to a spa and now I was at a clothing store, buying the most expensive wedding suit they had in stock.“What do you think about this one?” I asked Andrés.He studied it for a while before nodding. “It looks so good, boss.”“I'm sorry for calling you out,” I apologized, feeling guilty. “You even took a few days off to get better and the day you resume work is the day I'm dragging you around the city to pick an outfit.”Andrés merely shrugged. “I don't mind boss.
CATALINA I was the one getting married, but I wasn't allowed to participate in anything. Gabriella kept overworking herself. Everytime I volunteered to help, she asked me to stay out of it, or to go get my beauty sleep. I slept until I dreaded sleep, and when I complained to Miguel, he would only tell me to listen to Gabriella. The only thing I was allowed to participate in was the dress fitting…. obviously because I was the bride. Gabriella already picked out the dress, I only needed to be present for the sizing. I wanted to lash at her for picking out my dress for me but when I saw what she picked out, I held myself back. The dress was so beautiful, it hung like a masterpiece. It was crafted from ivory silk and laced with gold embroidery. Hand beaded crystals shimmered along the hem like scattered diamonds. Come to think of it, Gabriella always picked out my dresses per Miguel's instructions and she never disappointed. She seemed to always know what would suit me perfectly fo
CATALINA I studied her closely, she didn't look like a traitor. But traitors usually don't look like one, right? She didn't seem fazed by anything, as usual.I noticed she had the calm and composed manner she always maintained.“You keep staring at me,” Gabriella said, her eyes meeting mine.“Do you have a problem with that?” I asked, trying to unnerve her.“I don't think there's anyone who'll be comfortable with being stared at,” her daring eyes were fixed on mine.“Did you plot with Olivia to have me kidnapped?” I blurted out the question, no need beating around the bush.“You still think I did it? Wasn't it Pablo who kidnapped you?”“Well my theory is that this was all orchestrated from the start. I was on my way to meet Olivia when I got kidnapped.”She rolled her eyes, as if what I said made no sense. “I didn't plot with Olivia to do anything.”I didn't believe her. There was no proof to back her claims of innocence.“I want to talk to Olivia. Set a meeting between us.”Gabrie
MIGUELI've never been jealous of a little child before in my life. The kid Catalina brought home was a menace. He didn't stay for a full 24 hrs but he made sure I felt his presence in my house.First, he never left Catalina's side, he followed her around like a lost puppy. When it was time to sleep, he insisted on sleeping between us. I couldn't touch my woman because of a little boy, and when I complained, he only laughed at me and Catalina laughed along with him. Then the next morning, Catalina made me babysit him while she prepared for work. I stared down at the little boy, wondering what to do with him. And the boy laughed at my expression. The child was laughing. At me.He had no fear. He tugged at my hair, slapped my cheek, and then sneezed on me. All in under five minutes, and still… I didn’t put him down.“Kid,” I muttered. “You better not poop on me.”Axel giggled again.“I am a very dangerous man,” I tried to scare the kid. “I kill people for a living,” I told him serio
