Chapter 4

Author: Hunk Alert
This display of a father-daughter bond, delivered as what could've been a final message, struck a chord with everyone watching.

Millions of viewers in the live stream were instantly heartbroken.

"Good grief! This is just tragic. That poor girl is waiting for her dad to save her, and the guy is just chilling in a cell without a care in the world."

"Tristan is a total monster. That's your own flesh and blood, man!"

"I'm actually sick to my stomach. How did a guy like this ever get certified as an elite animal behaviorist? The board needs to yank his license immediately."

"Go save her already! Time is running out!"

The insults and accusations washed over me like a tidal wave.

Sylvia saw her opening and took it.

She dropped to her knees again, but she wasn't looking at me this time. She threw herself right in front of the news cameras that had just swarmed into the station lobby, sobbing directly into the lenses.

"Tristan, please…" she cried. "If you'll just go save Harper, I'll have Randall hand over the entire company to you. We'll walk away with absolutely nothing. Just please save her!"

She actually pulled out a pre-drafted share transfer agreement from her purse.

Randall's signature was already on the bottom line, and all I needed to do was nod in agreement.

It was a brilliant performance. She looked exactly like a desperate, self-sacrificing grandmother willing to give up everything for her granddaughter.

I looked at her through the glass and smiled.

While the whole room watched in stunned silence, I finally spoke.

"Sure."

Sylvia froze. She clearly hadn't expected me to cave so easily.

I curled a finger, beckoning her over. "Bring it here. Let me see."

She hesitated for a second, then slid the paperwork through the gap in the partition. I picked it up, flipped through the pages with mock interest, and nodded.

"Looks genuine enough."

A look of triumph flashed across Sylvia's face, and she pressed, "So… will you head over there now?"

I tossed the papers onto the table and leaned back in my chair.

"I said I'd look at it. I never said when I'd leave."

Sylvia's expression instantly stiffened. "You're toying with me!"

I closed my eyes and tuned her out completely.

Another half hour dragged by. Every passing second was agonizing for Harper, who was trapped in the enclosure, and it was doing a number on Randall, too.

Finally, he played his final card.

He marched up to the interrogation room window, staring at me as he uttered through gritted teeth, "Tristan, if you leave right now and get Harper out of that enclosure, I'll give you a 60% controlling stake in Sheffield Group."

Sheffield Group was a multi-billion-dollar corporate empire my father had built from nothing. 60% meant total, uncontested control of the company.

Soon after, the attorneys rushed into the station, carrying a thick stack of share transfer agreements.

I looked down at the documents, skimming the astronomical figures listed on the pages, and picked up a pen.

But right as the ink was about to hit the paper, a massive wave of cheering erupted from the television.

"She's out! The kid has been rescued!"

"Mr. Reeves did it! He actually did it!"

"The rescue was a success. She's safe now!"

I smiled. The fish had finally taken the bait.

This time, they had jumped headfirst into the trap I had carefully laid out for them.

I presented a third document—a copy of a birth certificate that clearly listed Sylvia as Dalton's biological mother.Randall's legs gave out, and he collapsed into his chair, gasping for air.Sylvia, Dalton, and Madeline crumbled to the floor, their eyes vacant and completely drained of vigor.I slowly approached Randall. As I looked down at the man I had called my father for over 30 years, my eyes held absolutely zero warmth."Did you honestly think your sins stopped at cheating on my mother, raising your mistress' kid, stealing my money, and plotting my murder?"My voice was quiet, but the microphone carried it with crystal clarity through the venue and the livestream."20 years ago, my mother and the founder of Sheffield Group, Christina Brooks, passed away. But did she really die in a car wreck just because she fell asleep at the wheel?"I presented my final piece of evidence. It was my mother's old diary.Along with it was an affidavit from the mechanic who handled her ca

All of a sudden, Madeline flew off the handle and shrieked at me, "Tristan, how dare you forge a fake video to smear Dalton? He's the man who saved our family! How could you do this to him?"She turned on the waterworks, her eyes filled with the agony of being betrayed by a loved one. It was a desperate, final stand. As I watched her pathetic act, I didn't even bother wasting my breath on a rebuttal.I pulled a flash drive from my pocket and tossed it onto the stage."Smear him?" I repeated. "That flash drive contains the result of a year-long investigation by a private investigator I hired."Dalton, Madeline, for the past five years, you two have been running a shell company registered offshore. You've been siphoning every single dime of my animal behavior patents and research grants into it."You had this entire thing all planned out. If I had died in that freak accident the other day, you would've rightfully inherited all my intellectual property. You would've turned my life's

The color drained from Dalton's face. His lips twitched, and a dry, raspy wheeze caught in his throat. Still, he couldn't utter a word.My second question was much like a scalpel, slicing right through his elaborate cover story to expose the ugly truth underneath. At this, Randall's face darkened. He knew that if I kept talking, this entire farce would blow up in their faces. And so he turned to the venue's security and barked, "What are you waiting for? Get him out of here, now!"Several burly security guards immediately closed in on me, their expressions hostile.I didn't resist, nor did I flinch.I just stood there, calmly looking at Randall, the man who had once seemed larger than life to me."Dad, you're in a real hurry to kick me out. Got something to hide?"My voice was soft, but it struck a nerve with him.Just as a guard reached out to grab my arm, I raised my phone and hit play.Using the wireless casting feature, I sent a video directly to every screen in the conve

Every camera whipped around like a shark catching the scent of blood, locking onto Dalton, whose face dropped instantly.Beside him, Madeline and Randall froze, and the smug arrogance melted right off their faces. They clearly hadn't expected me to pick a fight in public, let alone during their biggest moment of triumph. After a brief moment of panic, Dalton proved exactly why he was such a good actor. He smoothed out his expression, offering a calm, steady smile to the cameras. He adopted his most charismatic, heroic tone as he explained, "Tristan, I know you're bitter about what happened, but you shouldn't let your resentment blind you to the power of human courage and spirit. Indeed, Orion is incredibly dangerous.""However…" he pivoted, his eyes gleaming with confidence. "During my time in Special Forces, I learned specialized tracking techniques and scent-mimicry methods. "I mimicked the low-frequency chuffing sound a tigress makes to soothe her cubs, while simultaneously

Three days later, the city and the zoo hosted a massive press conference and award ceremony at the largest convention center downtown to celebrate the successful rescue operation.Dalton, Madeline, Randall, and Sylvia sat front and center on the main stage, basking in a sea of applause and congratulations. When I walked through the entrance wearing a faded, washed-out jacket, the entire room fell dead silent.Every eye in the place locked onto me, sharp as daggers. Disgust, resentment, contempt, and smug satisfaction rippled through the crowd.Ignoring them, I walked straight down the center aisle toward the stage."How does he still have the nerve to show up?""Seriously. A piece of trash like him should've been canceled and run out of town years ago.""Look at him, dressed like a total bum. He got exactly what he deserved."The unabashed whispers drifted straight to my ears.Madeline spotted me from the stage. She was wearing a tailored white gown that made her look the pict

Everyone in the station froze.Sylvia was the first to snap out of it. She lunged forward like a maniac, snatched the agreement right out of my hands, and tore it to shreds."In your dreams, Tristan! Harper is safe now, so you won't get a single dime. You're going to rot in a cell for the rest of your life, you bastard!"I watched the shreds of paper rain down around me, my smile widening.None of them knew that I had been reborn. In my previous life, I had run into that enclosure like a madman to save Harper. However, Dalton shot me in the back with a tranquilizer dart, pushing me directly into the path of an agitated tiger. After I died, they pinned the tragedy on me. They claimed that I was a clout-chaser who had riled up the tiger to sabotage Dalton, the courageous hero, and that I had simply gotten what I deserved.Madeline sobbed for the cameras, concocting stories about my domestic abuse and paranoia, while my own father disowned me.I went from being a world-renowned el
