Chapter 5

作者: Lil' Falafel
Maddie’s expression changed, and she spoke with impatience.

“I did all this for you. If it weren’t for me, how would you have gotten first place?”

“But did I ask you to sleep with him?!” Blaine roared, his eyes red.

Maddie fell silent. Then she sighed softly.

“Stop making a scene, okay? There’s only one week left. This farce will be over soon.”

I didn’t feel any heartbreak. After all, Maddie and I were just using each other.

Pretending to be a bad student in exchange for one hundred days of intimacy with the school beauty was honestly a great deal.

The mock exams arrived as scheduled.

On both the first and second practice tests, I performed “steadily”, scoring somewhere in the 800-900 range.

Forget Harvard or Yale; even getting into a decent college would be impossible with those scores.

On the day of the SATs, the three of us were assigned to different exam rooms.

Before entering, Maddie comforted me. “It’s okay. Even if you don’t do well, you still have me.”

I smiled and nodded, then turned and walked into the exam room that would change my fate…

When the exam was over, I understood something clearly.

At last, I could rely on myself to leave that storage room behind. I would no longer have to endure my parents’ punches and kicks.

Finally, I could live my own life.

While waiting for the SAT results, I sold all the gifts the Zimmermans had given me on second-hand platforms.

After everything was sold, the balance in my account was enough to cover four years of college tuition.

On the day the results were released, the Zimmermans held a grand party, inviting our entire class to their villa to check the scores together.

It was all Blaine’s idea.

He wanted to defeat me, the rival who had always ranked above him, in front of everyone. Then he’d watch as I, the failure, was thrown out of this place and scorned by everyone.

Our homeroom teacher, the principal, and several media outlets all arrived on time.

After all, our class was the best in the entire city and the most likely to produce the top scorer.

Every media outlet wanted the first report on the top student.

One by one, students checked their scores. Most of the results were better than expected.

Then Blaine confidently stepped in front of the cameras and entered his exam number.

After the page refreshed, his final score appeared.

He shouted excitedly, “1500! I got 1500! With this score, I have a chance at Harvard and Yale!”

Blaine excitedly showed the result to the cameras, while Mr. Zimmerman waved his arms with joy.

[That’s right, this is the male lead! Just barely making the cutoff for Harvard and Yale and then starting a dramatic love triangle on campus.]

[I can’t wait to see what happens next!]

While everyone around him praised him one after another, Blaine suddenly turned his gaze toward me.

“Levi, why haven’t you checked your score yet? You were always the top student in the grade, weren’t you?”

The comments exploded again.

[The love-struck top student? Getting 900 points would be dangerous!]

[Hurry up! Let him check his score! Watching him get slapped in the face will be the most satisfying moment. Who told this supporting character to keep competing with our male lead for the girl!]

Seeing that I still hadn’t checked my score, Maddie walked over and took my hand to comfort me.

“Don’t be afraid. You still have me.”

I smiled, gently pulled my hand away, and entered my exam number.

The moment the page refreshed, the smug smile on Blaine’s face froze.

He stared at the screen in disbelief and suddenly screamed.

“Impossible! This is absolutely impossible!”

“And it wasn’t me who called the cops either. You’ll have to thank everyone in the livestream.”The pin on my chest was actually a hidden camera. I had turned on the livestream from the moment I decided to meet Maddie in the school field.Blaine’s eyes went wide in disbelief.…The police rushed over, arresting everyone present. I was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital.Lying on the white hospital bed, Maddie stood by my side, her voice weak as she apologized.“I’m sorry… you’ve been through so much, and I never knew.”I nodded.“It doesn’t matter.”A flicker of hope appeared in her eyes. “Does that mean you forgive me? Do we still have a chance?”“You’re disgusting.” I gave her no chance for hope, my face full of contempt as I said it.“You and Blaine are the same, sharing the same values. Right now, you’re interested in me, so you humble yourself and apologize, but when you were helping him, you never felt any guilt.“And Blaine is right. To me, you’re jus

I spoke coldly, “Blaine, did you hear that? This is the woman you called loyal to you.”Maddie froze in place, completely stunned. She didn’t understand why I suddenly mentioned Blaine. Then a guy suddenly went berserk, charging out from behind a tree and slapping Maddie across the face.“Maddie! You actually fell for this jerk?“Let me tell you now that he knew all along. He knew you were approaching him with a purpose. Him being nice to you, sleeping with you, getting close to you—it was all just to spite me!“You’re just a wh*re to him, playing when he’s happy. Now that he doesn’t want you, you still try to betray our family? The Zimmermans and the Zieglers have worked together for years. You really think doing this benefits your family?”Blaine turned toward me, every word dripping with hatred.“Levi, you’re nothing but a sewer rat, a lowlife. Even if you became the state’s top scorer and got into Harvard, so what? My family has money. I have plenty of ways to ruin you!”He

Everyone began sympathizing with my past and cheered for me, a flower that had bloomed in adversity.…As for Maddie, she had been desperately trying to contact me these past few days.Unfortunately, I had no time to deal with her.Because I became the state’s top scorer, I had been busy attending various media interviews. I had also taken on quite a few tutoring jobs.A publishing house even approached me, hoping I could organize my previous study materials and methods into a set of “top scorer notes” for publication and sale.I needed to seize these opportunities while I still could. After all, there would be many places in the future where I would need money. In the end, my study notes sold extremely well, both online and offline.Countless parents bought them and voluntarily posted reviews online, saying their children’s academic performance had improved significantly after studying my materials. They said their children had discovered weaknesses in their previous study

Blaine completely lost control and started a livestream.During the stream, he displayed my exam results from the past hundred days. He especially showed my two mock exams, where I hadn’t even reached 1000 points and ranked near the bottom of the grade.Holding up his ID card, Blaine reported me with righteous indignation.“Levi cheated! With mock exam scores like that, how could he suddenly become the state’s top scorer so easily?”The online discussion grew louder and louder.Netizens started tagging me, demanding that I prove myself.I simply chuckled and opened my private TikTok account. The account displayed ninety-nine private study vlogs I had posted.Every time, I studied until the early hours of the morning.Page after page of dense notes. I even memorized vocabulary while showering or using the bathroom…Smiling, I responded to Blaine.“I should thank you for that. You let me play the heir for a hundred days, and I was able to enjoy such a great study environment.

  • Beating the System   Chapter 6

Blaine kept refreshing my results page, muttering to himself, “Impossible. This has to be a system bug!”The principal and several reporters standing nearby stepped forward and clearly saw my SAT results page. The score field was blank.Below it, a line of black text appeared clearly on the screen.[Total Score: Your ranking has entered the top 50 in the state. Detailed results will be available on the 27th.]Not only were the people present stunned, but even the comments floating in front of me froze for several seconds before suddenly exploding.[What the hell? This is ridiculous! Am I seeing this right? The cannon-fodder supporting character’s score got blocked? Top 50 in the entire state? Didn’t the novel say he only scored in the 800s and couldn’t even get into a junior college? Author, what are you doing?!][No way the supporting character fully awakened and became the SAT state’s top scorer, right?][You’re overthinking it. At most, he’s just top 50. State’s top scorer?
