Chapter 17: Grant pov

I watch as she removes her makeup and I wonder why this is important. I am distracted by her motions as she gradually reveals her natural beauty, and I am enraptured by her. Then she turns around and tucks her fringe to the side revealing her entire face to me. She is absolutely beautiful, her pale skin is blemish free, despite her heavy use of foundation, and she has signs of sleep deprivation around her eyes.

At first that is all I can see which is concerning to me, but then the light catches something and I realise the truth.

I am shocked by what I see, she has multiple small nicks in her skin, that start with a small crescent below her eye and continue down the side of her face. But then I see the large one that extends down her throat, and I feel angry when I think about how this could have happened.

“Terry did it.”

Those words trigger and intense rage to build within me, directed at the man who had the audacity, to claim her as his daughter. I barely notice when she takes my
