“She can't be here.” I looked outside again and yes, the person who was grinning tightly as she cracked her head on the door was her, how dare she step into this place?

I knew it wasn't my place to let her stand outside, especially when she was with Thompson, so I unlocked the door, and she let him in first.

He hugged me tightly before running off to find his siblings.

The door was still half open when she stepped inside.

“Look who we have here, the new mother.” Her eyes twinkled from what she had just said as she stepped inside and looked around first, “Seems the father isn't here yet.” Thinking it was some funny joke that had just been told, she laughed.

My face is still tightened, and my lips are pressed into thin lines as I refuse even the slightest expression to drop from my face.

“What do you want?” I asked her to step more into the house, and she closed the door and followed me.

I sat down on the couch, and she didn't, obviously preferring to stand.
