“I don’t know; I was busy training, making sure I don’t die, fighting, trying to conquer lands, and maybe fighting my brothers.” I explained, listing them with my fingers, and they all looked at me with squinted eyes.

“What the hell, Maddie? You did nothing but fight,” Emily exclaimed, still unable to fathom how I had lived my years with being boy crazy. “How did you not die of boredom?”

“Anyways, that is not why we are here.” Ariel interrupted before it could get out of hand. “We are down to the important part. Giftttsss.” My ears rang at the screams that followed, and Ariel directed a glare towards me as she didn’t hear my voice.

“Yayy!” I said in the most monotone voice I could muster, making her frown deepen, but I only shrugged. That was the most excited ‘noise’ I could muster.

“You could be at least a bit enthusiastic.” She grumbled, rolling her eyes. “Anyway, we would take turns opening our gifts, and I would be the last to go.”

“Yeah, sure, let’s just get this started.” I took the box Liza was holding out and I opened it, but my breath caught my throat as I saw a locket with a picture of Toby and me on each side, and I took her in my arms, squeezing her to my bosom.

“Thank you.” I whispered in her ears.

Emily was a mug of all seven of us and a leather jacket with Maddie written at the back. Tiana was a book that contained fighting tactics and tricks and a black combat boot.

“My turn.” Ariel cleared her throat, and she pulled out the big box she had brought with her. “Here, you have helped me once when I was in need, and it was only befitting that I did this. Open it.”

Her words only got me eager, and I held one of the ropes and pulled until it came apart, lifting the lid, and the first thing I saw was a black pocket knife.

“You would be doing a lot of fighting when you go back, and this knife is made from one of the sharpest objects; if you look closely, there is a red button you can press, and a drop of wolfbane will come to the tip; in case you are in dire need, it would kill your opponent at once.”

“Ariel.” That was the most thoughtful gift—in fact, all of them were. “Thank you so much.”

“That is not all.” I searched deeper, and I picked up a photo album titled ‘Maddie’s Memories’, and I flipped it open, the first picture taking my breath away.

It was Toby and I kissing under the moonlight, and the one just under it was our wolves lying down and gazing at the moon.

I blinked my eyes, willing the tears back, as I flipped the next page, which was even more pictures of Toby and me, while others were of my friends and just random things she thought I would like.

This time I couldn’t hold back, and I leaned towards her, hugging her tight. “Thank you, Ariel. Thank you so much.” She held me tight, rubbing my back until I was calm, and we released each other.

The last of her gifts had us all bursting into laughter. “What is this?” I asked as I held the silicone-shaped object.

“Well, you will be missing Toby a lot, and I know it can’t compare to the real thing, but it should do the trick.”

"Now, ladies, this is what I call thoughtfulness, and I promise to use it religiously.” I joked, and everyone burst into laughter.

The gift-giving ended, and it was time to party. Tiana cranked the volume to the highest, and we sang, danced, and drank. I was sure at one point I had kissed Liza on the cheeks, professing my love for her, but Kane, ever the party popper, had crashed the party because he believed his mate needed 8 hours of sleep.

It was safe to say that the goodbye party ended well, and I stumbled to Toby’s room, holding the walls for support, but they kept moving and made the journey more stressful than it should be.

I managed to get to the brown door, and I opened it, my eyes zoning on my mate that was lying on the bed.

He was pretending that he was sleeping, but I had heard his footsteps as he hurried back to bed when he noticed I was close, and I smiled.

I went to the bathroom and poured some water on my face, and after two more splashes and a cup of water, the alcohol in my system had cleared thanks to my fast metabolism, but it only managed to leave me horny.

I dragged my legs back to the bedroom, each step becoming harder because all I wanted was to jump him. Instead, I laid down on the bed, making sure there was enough distance between us, and I closed my eyes to sleep.

Ten minutes in and my eyes were still wide open, my nipples overly sensitive that I needed him to touch me before I went crazy. But I held it in and remained on my side of the bed.

“I am Maddie, and I wouldn’t be controlled by my hormones.” I whispered under my breath, but it only got increasingly difficult until I couldn’t take it any longer.

Fuck it.

I couldn’t hold back anymore; I was leaving tomorrow, and I needed the memory of my mate to last me for the journey ahead.

I took a deep breath, asking the goddess to help me, and I crossed the invisible line that had always separated us and hugged him from behind.

Toby stiffened from my touch and slowly turned to look at me, and I could still make out his lips from the darkness. “Maddie, what are you doing?”

“I just want to hold you.”

  • Becoming the Female Alpha   Chapter 8

I woke up with a start, my unfocused eyes hovering about the ceiling as I stared at the intricate lines of the board above. The warmth beside me was comforting, his presence a reassuring sight for me, and I pulled closer into the warmth, content in staying here forever. But the sharp alarm disrupted whatever peace I was having. Toby shifted on the bed to turn it off, and I lazily allowed my eyes to move to the wall.“What?!” I jumped out of bed as I saw the time. How was I still in bed by this time?“What is wrong?” Toby asked, and if I wasn’t so annoyed, I would have appreciated the bed voice and bed hair and bed... everything because he looked too good.Dare I say he was glowing.“The time, I am late.” The suspicious amount of air I was feeling on my body was enough to know that I was still naked, and with the way his eyes were devouring me, I grabbed the sheet and wrapped them around my body.Only I dug a bigger hole for myself, because he was as naked as the day he was born, and h

His words descended down like cold water, enough to dampen whatever mood we were in, and I released a long sigh. The moment we had shared was shattered, and he had managed to ruin the beautiful time that we had.“You can’t do that.” My whispers were the only thing that could be heard in the room. Everything was still; even the noise of the air conditioner was now a dull hum, as if they could all sense how serious the situation was.“Maddie.” Toby tried pulling me towards him, but I shrugged his hands off, refusing to be lured.“You can’t do that, Toby; you can’t. This was the only request I told you not to ask me, yet you did it.” I tightened my fingers in the fist—tight enough that my knuckles were getting white—it was the only thing that was keeping me sane.“I know; I thought I could do it, Maddie. I thought I could watch you go and continue living my life, but after today I know it is impossible.”“Toby!” I cried out, turning my back to him as a lone tear fell down my eyes. I have

Toby cuddled me in his arms, holding me tight, and I sighed in bliss as I was completely blanketed by his body. I closed my eyes, ignoring how my body was tingling as I felt him against him.I wanted to jump him or melt into him, but it was taking all of my strength not to do that. His touch distracted my wary thoughts as he stroked my hair gently, his chest vibrating as he hummed the tone of a song I had no idea of, and I settled on his chest, the soft thud of his heartbeat luring me to sleep.“Are you still going tomorrow?” His voice pierced through the still air, and I opened my eyes, but my face was pretty much buried in his chest, so my sigh was muffled.“Yes.” I whispered in a soft voice, afraid to disrupt the peaceful ambience. He made a low noise at the back of his throat, and we descended into darkness, each of us in their thought.“Do you have to go?” Toby asked, and I released a small breath, tired of answering this question. My mind was already made up, and I was not going

I have been avoiding Toby after our last encounter, because somehow it had gotten to my head that he would sense what I had done. And there was no way I could meet his eyes when I have been using his name and image for naughty things. Instead, I had busied myself with making plans for my departure.I had reached out to my parents and my siblings to inform them of my coming, but I never told them the real reason for my arrival. It was better to keep them in suspense, and maybe it may give me the upper hand.It wasn’t as if they were excited about my arrival either.Whenever I wasn’t brushing up my travel plans, I was in the training room, sparring with anyone that cares to fight. It was no rumor that I fought dirty. I don’t know why we are always advised to fight within the rules. We are werewolves; our existence is already proof that rules don’t matter.I had to develop my own motto: fight until your opponent is dead or about to die and until you have no more strength. I throw my logi

  • Becoming the Female Alpha   Chapter 3

I pushed the door to his office open and slammed it hard, my eyes fixed on him as I waited for a reaction, but the bastard was too calm and way collected to react.Kane’s gaze lazily left the piles of books that were sitting on his desk, and he glared at me. “There is no need to put a door when you blatantly refuse to use it.”He was referring to my habit of just entering inside without waiting for his response. We have been over this; a lot of words have been exchanged, maybe fist too, but I was not about to change. In my defense, a knock was more than enough to alert him of my presence. And if he was the ‘great’ alpha he claims to be, he should have already perceived my scent a long time ago.The fucker keeps forgetting we are equals.Anyway, I came for something important, and that was the only reason I let his comment slide.“I am leaving the pack.”“About time, you have overstayed your visit.” I could swear I heard him say it under his breath, but his facial muscles barely moved.
