Orion – POV

When I woke up the next morning, the light pouring through the windows felt harsh. My body ached. My thoughts were heavy.

I dressed in silence. My usual outfit: grey suit, silver pin, black gloves. Everything clean and tight. Everything Beta. Everything fake.

Nora knocked twice before entering. "Sir, the board meeting has been moved to eleven. Your uncle will be attending by holo."

I nodded, adjusting my cuffs. "Anything else?"

She hesitated. "He also sent a driver. He wants you at the Silver House for dinner tonight.

I froze.

He hadn't summoned me in months. Not unless something was wrong.

A chill crawled down my spine, slow and deliberate, like icy fingers trailing my skin. My mind went blank for a second, then flooded with one terrifying thought:

He must have found out what happened at the gala.

I knew what kind of eyes followed me — not just strangers or curious nobles. His spies. Always watching. Always reporting. I had felt them on my back even when I was alone. I had learned to smile through the weight of it.

I cleared my throat, and tried to look normal. "Did he… say anything else?" I asked, my voice a little lower than I intended.

"No, sir. Just that you should come. And look... presentable."

Presentable. Right.

Translation: Look like the perfect Beta heir he molded from lies and fear.

---

Cassian – POV

I stood alone in my office, arms folded, eyes closed.

My wolf was restless again.

Ever since I saw Orion’s true self at that gala, something had shifted. I felt drawn to him in a way I couldn’t explain.

But still—no confirmation.

I had waited sixteen years for this.

Since I turned eighteen, I had searched for my mate. Traveled to every region. Met every royal Alpha and dignitary. But the bond never sparked.

And now, at thirty-four, I had a strong suspicion.

But my wolf was confused. Slowed.

Orion's scent was off. Like it had been soaked in chemicals. Not just masked—muted.

I clenched my fists.

If he truly was mine, I needed proof. Not politics. Not guesses.

My wolf had to feel the bond. To recognize it.

But for that to happen, Orion had to stop hiding.

I clenched my fists.

"Come out of the dark, Orion," I whispered. "Show me who you are. So I can stop wondering. So I can know."

He had to stop using those suppressants. Let his wolf rise—even just for a month..

Until then, I was stuck in this silence.

---

Orion – POV

By nightfall, I was sitting in the back of the black car, watching the buildings turn into trees.

The city gave way to winding roads and stone gates. We passed guards. Tall iron fences. More guards. And then finally, the Silver House appeared, lit by gold lamps and moonlight.

It was beautiful. And terrifying.

Nora wasn’t allowed in. The driver disappeared as soon as I stepped out.

Inside, everything was silent. Polished. Cold.

My uncle, Sebastian Drevenhart, waited in the main hall, seated on a long leather couch with a glass of dark wine in his hand.

"Orion," he said without looking up. "You’re late."

"By two minutes."

"Two minutes is enough to lose an empire."

I didn’t answer. I sat across from him, perfectly still.

He studied me.

"You met with the Northern Prince."

I tensed. "Briefly. It was business."

"Everything is business," he said sharply. "And yet, you looked rattled afterward."

"It was a long meeting."

"Don’t insult me, Orion. You think I don’t know what happened?"

My breath caught. Just for a second.

He set the wine down.

"I know everything that happened at the meeting. 50/50 isn't a good deal, Orion." He angrily said, " Send a contract to the North proposing 70/30."

"I'll do just that." I replied.

"And be careful around that Northern Prince. He's very cunning. He shouldn't suspect your identity, or he will go to any length to find out who you are."

"He thinks I’m a Beta. Just like the rest of them."

He leaned forward. His eyes were like ice.

"If he finds out what you are, everything we’ve built will collapse. The board will revolt. The other heirs will circle like vultures. And your life, what little of it I’ve allowed you to keep, will be worth nothing."

"Then why keep me at all?" I asked, tired.

He didn’t blink.

"Because you were useful. Until now."

Something flickered in his expression. A warning. A threat. A promise.

I stood.

"Is that all, Uncle?"

He smiled faintly.

"For now. But know this, Orion: If that Alpha even sniffs the truth, I’ll put you back in the box I found you in. And this time, I won’t leave the lid open."

Cassian’s POV The room was quiet, but my head wasn’t. I had a file in my hands — something about land policies and zoning — but I’d been reading the same sentence for the past ten minutes without processing a single word. My eyes moved over the lines, but my mind was far away, trapped in that damn ballroom again, in that moment when Orion’s scent had wrapped around me like a vice I didn’t ask for. I exhaled sharply and dropped the file on the table. This was getting ridiculous. A knock came. I didn’t look up. “Come in.” Kai stepped in, tablet in hand, his usual calm expression in place, though I could tell something about him looked... entertained. “There’s someone from the South here to see you,” he said. My eyes snapped to him. “Orion?” Kai smirked. “No. Not the Prince himself. His secretary. Also his maid. Also his friend. Apparently.” I arched an eyebrow. “He really multitasks his staff, doesn’t he?” Kai’s lips twitched. “She said her name is Nora. She ca

Orion pov I didn’t remember walking back into the ballroom. I barely remembered slipping past Nora’s watchful eyes through the noise and luxury until I reached the quiet sanctuary of the private elevator. The moment the doors closed behind me, I crumpled. My back slid against the cold mirrored wall, and I sank to the floor, pressing my palms to my eyes like I could block out the scent I still felt on my skin. Cassian’s voice echoed inside me—not loud, but deep, like thunder right before the storm breaks. “You can bury your wolf in drugs and chemicals. But your wolf will soon become weak of hiding, and it will come out of its hiding place.” My chest ached. Not from fear this time. From pressure. I knew he was right. My body knew. My wolf knew, even if he was too weak to rise. I’d never allowed him space. Never allowed myself to feel anything real. And now it was like something inside me had finally heard the sound of its own heartbeat. I hated it. Because I couldn’t

  • Behind the Beta's Mask: The Hidden Omega   chapter 9: I want to know the truth

Cassian pov I’ve never been one for crowded halls or loud, polished events. I grew up with banquets, ceremonies, and the constant weight of being watched. So I knew how to blend in. I knew how to make my presence felt without demanding it. But tonight, the moment I stepped into the Orion Foundation gala, all I cared about was finding one face. Orion. I didn’t know what I expected. Maybe that he’d ignore me. Maybe that he’d avoid me completely. But I didn’t expect him to walk like he was balancing on a blade—like every breath was measured, like he was forcing himself to stay upright. It made something in me stir. My wolf didn’t howl or roar. It... leaned forward. Like it was trying to hear something. Like a scent it almost remembered but couldn’t quite place. A thread of something familiar. I kept my distance for a while. Watched him navigate the room like a seasoned diplomat. He smiled at all the right people. Said all the right things. But his eyes never lit up. Not o

I sat at my desk the next morning, staring at a blank screen. The numbers and reports I was supposed to be reviewing meant nothing. My mind wouldn’t stop repeating those words. That warning. A knock at the door. Nora stepped in with her usual grace, holding a cup of tea and a small folder. “Your schedule, sir,” she said softly. I nodded, taking the tea. I didn’t look at the folder. Nora hesitated. “Your scent blocker formula is running low. I placed an order for more.” My jaw tightened. “Double the order. And increase the dosage of the injectables. I don’t want any mistakes.” Her lips parted slightly, but sh

  • Behind the Beta's Mask: The Hidden Omega   chapter 6: Just a confirmation

Cassian Vale – POV I hated not knowing. In my world, you either sensed your path or you carved it yourself. But this—this thing between Orion and me? It felt like walking in the dark, knowing something was ahead but unable to reach it. I kept playing our last conversation over in my mind. His voice when he said he didn’t know if he could let me in. The way his eyes dropped when I told him I came for him. Every part of him screamed don’t trust. Every part of me wanted to earn it anyway. My wolf wouldn’t shut up about it either. It circled inside my chest like a storm without lightning. There was a pull—deep, sharp, constant—but no confirmation. No snap. No bond. Just confusion. And that was what worried me most. --- Kai, my Beta and second-in-command, sat beside me as we watched the security footage of Orion’s press event from earlier that morning. "Still playing the perfect heir," Kai said, crossing his arms. "If you didn’t know better, you’d think he was a Beta.
