Chapter 8: Pregnant

last update publish date: 2025-11-26 15:28:27

~ One month later ~

“Miss Moore, I suggest you take a break now; it's a few minutes past midnight. You didn't go home yesterday either. At this point I'm worried; you lied to your dad about staying in a hotel when you have been working.” Patrick scolded.

"Okay, fine,” Annastasia said, finally giving up, unable to take more of Patrick's scolding. She thought she had her dad off her back, but Patrick was worse than her dad.

Turning around, Anastasia saw Simona fast asleep on her desk, and she sighed. She has been immersed in completing her draft sample; she ignored her employees' feelings. She walked over to Simona and patted her on the shoulder.

“Madam!” Simona said, standing up abruptly. Anastasia smiled and said, "Pack up; I will drop you off."

“Thank you for your kindness, madam, but I will get a cab.” Simona said, and Anastasia raised an eyebrow at her.

“Okay, I will get my bag.” Anastasia smiled and bent over to get her bag but was hit with a sudden dizziness. She tried to support herself by grabbing her desk but went down.

The only thing she heard was Patrick's panicked voice before she was consumed by darkness.

~ Hospital ~

Anastasia woke up to beeping sounds. She opened her eyes and realized she was in the hospital. She sat up, disconnecting the IV drip attached to her hand. However, just as she was about to stand, the door opened, and Diana walked in holding a paper bag.

“You're awake,” Diana exclaimed happily, setting the paper bag on the stand. She approached her and asked. “Where are you going?”

“I want to use the washroom; what happened to me?” Anastasia asked only to be eye-rolled at. “Oh, you found out I was working and didn't take care of myself,” Anastasia added, and Diana sighed.

“Okay, I hope it won’t be repeated. Before you decide to starve yourself to the extent of fainting again, think of the little one growing inside you.” Diana chastised, and Anastasia nodded and replied,

“Okay, okay, I won’t starve myself again, Mom,” Anastasia said sarcastically as she walked towards the bathroom. Diana, who was looking at Anastasia to see her reaction to the news she just gave her, smiled widely when Anastasia referred to her as Mom.

'Will she accept her as her mom if she finds out her secret?' She thought.

“What did you just say?” Diana snapped out of her thoughts as Anastasia's curious voice sounded.

“I asked you not to starve yourself again; why?” Diana said, looking at Annastasia, who was now searching her face.

“No, not that. Diana, you said I should think of the little one growing inside me; please tell me I heard you right,” Annastasia implored, her eyes gleaming with hope.

“Yes, you did... you didn't hear wrong.” Diana admitted and smiled. “Congratulations, dear; the doctor confirmed you’re five weeks pregnant.” Anastasia stood there frozen.

‘She is pregnant; she's going to become a mom,’ she thought as her hands moved to her stomach and she began caressing it and muttered.

“My baby,"

“Yes, dear,” Diana nodded, smiling heartily.

~

Anastasia had just exited the washroom when the doctor walked in.

“Miss Moore,” he greeted Anastasia, who nodded and responded.

“Dr. Matthew, how have you been?” Dr. Matthew smiled, holding Anastasia's gaze affectionately, and replied.

“I’m doing well; congratulations,” he said, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Thank you,” Anastasia replied awkwardly.

Dr. Matthew was Anastasia's first love, her senior in college, and a family friend. Their parents used to say they were an ideal couple.

However, when Matthew went abroad for his studies after college, Anastasia met Adrian, a transfer student, and fell for him. Three years ago, when Matthew returned, she encountered him again, and after some uncomfortable moments, she confessed to Matthew that she was in love with someone else.

Matthew had told her he would wait for her. But here she was in his hospital, pregnant. She hopes knowing that she is pregnant will help him move on.

“I came to see if you were awake so you could have your first ultrasound, but you coming out of the washroom means I'm late. Take this,” Dr. Matthew said, handing Anastasia a bottle of water he was carrying and adding, “Drink all of it. You can also take a walk; come back when you feel the need to use the washroom."

“Oh, alright, thank you,” Anastasia said, taking the water from Dr. Matthew.

Adams Corp.

Adrian was seated at the head chair in the conference room as the HR explained the necklace design on the screen when Michael approached his side and whispered something into his ear.

He stood up and exited the conference room without sparing anyone a glance.

“Sorry for the inconvenience, but the meeting has been postponed.” At Michael's words, everyone heaved a sigh of relief, getting up and leaving, forgetting about Michael's presence.

Anastasia was standing in front of a huge baby painting outside the antenatal ward, caressing her stomach and saying,

"My baby, Mummy promises to be..." but her words were interrupted by

"What did you just say?" Adrian's baritone voice asked from behind her, and Anastasia stiffened.

Both men froze, turning to look at the woman they were fighting over like a piece of territory. Anna was gripping the roots of her hair, her eyes wide, her breath coming in shallow, frantic gasps. “I am not going with anyone!” she cried out. “Just go, both of you! Get out of my sight!” She glared at them, tears finally spilling hot and fast down her cheeks. “A man is in there fighting for his life because he was standing next to me, and you two are out here having a pissing contest over who owns me. I am not property. I don't want your protection, Aiden, and I don't want your redemption, Adrian! You both bring me nothing but pain!” The brothers stood completely frozen, stunned into silence by Anna's outburst. For the first time, piercing through the thick haze of their blinding possessiveness and toxic alpha rivalry, a terrifying realization dawned on them both. In their desperate attempts to claim her, to be the ultimate man who protected her, they were entirely suffocating her.

The air smelled of antiseptic as Anna paced the empty corridor, her heels clicking a frantic, erratic rhythm against the polished floor. Her work clothes were ruined, stained with the dark, drying crimson of Patrick’s blood, her hands trembling uncontrollably at her sides.Every time she dared to blink, the horrific scenes played again behind her eyelids: the screech of tires, the black van, the cold barrel, and Patrick collapsing to the concrete, coughing up blood meant for her.The guilt was a heavy, suffocating weight pressing down on her chest, making every breath a battle.Patrick had taken those bullets. He was currently lying on an operating table, his chest probably cut open, fighting for his life. And why? Because of the man sitting rigidly on the uncomfortable plastic chair to her left.Aiden.The man she had almost yielded to the night before. The man who had whispered promises of patience. That same man had armed guards, hidden enemies, and secrets darker than she could ha

Annastasia's stomach grumbled, and she looked up at Simona, who was seated beside her explaining a cosmetic line to attach to their upcoming fashion week, feeling embarrassed. “Let's end today's meeting here," Simona announced, and all eyes around the long table moved to Anna. After all, Anna was their CEO, and they only listened to her words. Not her lousy secretary, who somehow believes she magically becomes the boss since she is the CEO's secretary. A few of the females rolled their eyes discreetly when they fixed on Simona's face briefly. Anna nodded, smiling. Everyone got up and left. After everyone was out, Simona said, “Umm. Let go, madam. I will treat you to lunch.” “No, you don't have to do that. Let go; I will treat you.” Anna rejected Simona's offer politely. “I insist. Please consider it as a thank you for the hefty bonus you gave me a few days ago,” Simona insisted, her lips pulled into a pout. She didn't intend to let off the topic if Anna doesn't accept. “Okay

Patrick smiled, his eyes shining with mockery. “5 billion?” he repeated with disbelief. “Is that what my boss is worth in your eyes? You can do better than that.” “Okay, fine, I will double it, 10 billion. That’s my final offer,” Helena stated. Patrick smirked, reaching for his briefcase. He stood up and said to Helena, “Call me once you’re willing to offer more.” “What?” Helena exclaimed in disbelief, standing up. “Are you telling me 10 billion dollars isn't enough? That's a life-changing offer. Don't be avaricious,” Helena muttered, her voice degrading. Patrick finally took off his mask and laughed at her words. “If someone among us is greedy, then that's you. I thought you were sensible enough to understand why I rejected your offer. I didn't expect you to go ahead and chastise me. I believe you need that more than I do.” Patrick stated politely and turned, walking away, but paused at the door and added in a threatening tone. “I recorded our conversation today. If something

Inside Aiden's dining room, Aiden looked at the face of the woman seated opposite him for the umpteenth time and sighed deeply, putting his spoon down and focusing all his attention on her.Anna, who had her head lowered as she ate, sensing Aiden's intense and piercing gaze on her, quickly reached for the glass of chilled orange juice she had requested from one of the maids to take a sip to calm down her souring nerves when Aiden spoke.“Anna, are you alright?” Startled by Aiden's voice, Anna's grip around the glass loosened, causing the juice to pour on her, and the glass dropped to the floor, breaking.“Anna!” Aiden exclaimed, getting up and rushing to Anna's side. She also abruptly stood up, embarrassed by her clumsiness, and took a step backwards, but she was scratched by a shard of glass and groaned painfully.“Anna, what is wrong with you! Can't you watch where you're going?!” Aiden snapped coldly, lifting her off the ground.Tears flooded Anna's eyes as she muttered dejectedly,

“What, no!” Anna blurted quickly, “Am I that gullible in your eyes?” she asked, disbelief etched on her face.“No. But you love the man, and I witnessed how you two kissed the other day; had I not been there…” Diana explained, trying to redeem herself, but Anna interjected firmly.“Had you not been there, I would have been able to stop it like I did last night, Diana.”“Wow, something almost happened between you two last night?” Diana asked, her curiosity piqued.“Almost did, and I stopped it in time, but I can't take the guilt even now as I speak of it,” Anna confessed with a remorseful expression.“Why allow it to happen in the first place?” Diana questioned.“Because I was horny!” Anna cried, “I was too sensitive after an encounter with Adrian in the washroom earlier. I wasn't thinking straight. I bet Aiden now sees me as some loose woman,” Anna said, her voice trembling as hot tears began to stream down her cheeks.“Anna, dear, are you crying?” Diana asked gently, concern etched a
