Freddy's Pov

I leaned back into the chair, eyes focused on the man sitting across from me in a too-tight suit and a beard that needed some shaping.

The man, King Grayson, gestured animatedly as he discussed market trends and projected returns, while I nodded, looking attentive, but my mind was elsewhere.

On thoughts of Lilyanna.

I pictured the last time we had been together. How her body felt against mine.

“Mr. Montgomery, are you with me?” King's voice cut through my thoughts.

I blinked, refocusing, then sat up, “Yes. You were talking about diversification.”

Satisfied, King launched back into his speech while I returned to my reverie.

I missed her intensely. Spending a night knowing she was nowhere close to me was not a nice feeling.

She had promised to return soon.

But soon felt like an eternity.

I needed to see her and hold her today.

Right now.

I wondered what she was doing right now.

Cooking? Sitting in her mom's apartment, drinking coffee?

Was she safe?

Demi's POV Days later, Freddy's words still rang in my ears.“I was never happy with you. You were just a sick manipulator.”I could almost see his cold face, unmoved by my tears. Dusting my cheeks, I applied mascara with trembling hands. Then I moved back slightly, admiring my reflection in the mirror. “Perfect,” Zara said from where she sat. I said nothing, only continued with my makeup. The door opened, and my mom stepped in. Her eyes scanned my room as if searching for something. They settled on Zara, who took that as her cue to give us some privacy. When she closed the door behind her, Mom turned to me, “How are you feeling, my dear?” Ever since my breakdown days ago, Mom had not been able to accept that I was truly okay.I noticed the way her eyes, filled with worry, lingered on me when I was within her line of sight.I rolled my eyes and went back to brushing my lashes up with the mascara brush.“For the thousandth time, Mom, I'm okay.”She sat on my bed, watching me. “I w

Kaelia's POV I awoke to the same heaviness that had been in my chest all week. Sleep was supposed to settle me, wasn't it? But all I got was restless turning and tossing. My mind constantly replayed fragments of Freddy's voice, the look on his face when he left the apartment that day. It had been a week and five days since then, and I'd heard not a word from him. It seemed like months, maybe even years.I told myself I did not care. It did nig matter. I told myself he hated me anyway. But deep down, the truth gnawed at me like a parasite feeding on my soul. The truth was I cared. I cared too much, even. With a heavy sigh, I rolled out of bed and pulled the curtains open, the morning lights spilling into my room. I knew it was only a while before mom came knocking on my door if I was not out yet. I looked out of the window, and my eyes landed on a car parked across the street. It was not unusual. All the time, people park outside the building. But there was something about this on

William's POV My shoes clicked against the tiled floor as the men pushed me forward. Outwardly, I was calm, my expression unreadable. But inside, my mind burned with quiet fury. The room was a large hall. There were overhead bulbs that buzzed and flickered. At the centre of the hall, there was a long table weighed down with platters of food: roasted chicken, bowls of olives, slabs of bread, and red wine in crystal glass At the head of the table sat a man who looked every bit of an ex-convict.Diego Santos. He tore into a lamb leg like he had no other care in the world. The oil greased his lips and chin, but his eyes remained sharp, watchful as they locked on mine.“Ah,” Diego said as he lifted a wine glass in a toast, “The prodigal brother returns,”I did nothing. Said nothing. I did not bow or smile. I kept my shoulders square and voice flat as I spoke, “Diego,”He said, “Come. Sit. Eat.” He said, gesturing broadly as if he was welcoming an honoured guest to a family feast. “Th

William's POV As the car rolled out of Jessica's neighbourhood, I kept one hand pressed against the leather armrest, and the other was a fist against my knee. My thoughts spiralled. Kaelia Bennett.George's daughter. My niece. These words would not stop echoing in my head. For a long time, I had thought that every part of George was erased. But somehow, Jessica had managed to keep a piece of him alive. She had carried it, nurtured it, and raised it into the girl whom my son was now in love with. And Kaelia…I rubbed my thumb and index finger down the bridge of my nose, dragging in a sharp breath. She didn't look anything like him.She rather looked like a carbon copy of her mother. But there were pieces – tiny fragments – of George in her eyes. How had I not noticed until a few days ago?Her existence threatened everything I’d built.Another Montgomery heir. I leaned back into the seat and let out a low, humourless laugh, “George, you bastard. Even in death, you haunt me.”Th

Kaelia's POV Standing behind the door, my heart pounding in my chest, I listened to their conversation. They were not loud enough for me to hear everything that was being said. So I held on to the phrases I could catch. “…didn’t know you had a daughter,” I heard William say. His voice carried a mocking note. It was the kind of thing people use when they already know the answer.Mom's reply came, sharp and defensive, “Why would you know? So you could –” The rest of her words were swallowed by air, and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't hear it. I shifted closer, and the door creaked as it moved forward a bit. I pressed myself against the wall, a pickle racing down my arms. I didn't know Mom knew William. I didn't even know she had any connection with the Montgomerys. She'd never mentioned it to me. What had brought him to our apartment? What were they talking about? Was it about Freddy? Was it about me? I thought about leaning forward to look at them again, but decid

William’s POV It had been years – no, decades, since I last saw Jessica. Yet as I stood in front of the faded door of her apartment, memories rushed back like welcome ghosts.I wondered what she looked like now. Then, she had long blonde hair that everyone admired, full lips, and a figure that was a showstopper. In fact, it was not hard to see the reason why George loved her so much. She was not the nicest girl out there. I guess her rudeness came with her being the prettiest. I lifted my hand and knocked, then realised that I could have just used the doorbell. For a moment, there was only silence. And just as I was about to turn away, I heard the sound of footsteps. Next was the sound of doors unlocking, and then the door swung open just enough to reveal her face. Time has obviously not been unkind to her. She looked just as beautiful as before. She was older now, though, with hair streaked with grey. But her eyes still carried that familiar defiance I remembered too well.Whe
