Chapter 31. Mr. Goldwin is Very Attentive

Cade heard the door to his room being knocked. He was still going through a few more documents before going to bed. Without lifting his face from the sheets in his hands, he said to the knocker, “Come in!”

It was too late to realize he had made a mistake once he saw who was coming.

Fay appeared to be wearing the oversized T-shirt she had worn two days ago. Three days ago. As far as Cade could remember, the girl had never worn anything else. Did she have a dozen of the same shirt? Or did she just keep wearing them over and over again without washing them? If the latter was true, how disgusting!

And what was in that girl’s hand? A drinking cup? Did Fay make something for her?

“What’s the need?” Cade didn’t want to linger looking at the girl. He looked back down at the document in his hand.

Fay placed her coffee on Cade’s desk.

“From the kids,” she said simply. The idea of taking the kids’ names came to mind. Cade would have a big head if he knew Fay made it.
