Chapter 5. Guests in the Morning

"Mommy, you read too many novels." Mike finally spoke when his laughter had subsided. The corners of his eyes were watering. "We're not that good."

Well, not that great by any stretch of the imagination, but you're still amazing kids.

Fay just muttered it to herself. They would get a big head if they heard her.

The girl then resumed her intention to take a bath. At that moment, she suddenly felt uncomfortable. So, were the two kids going to leave soon? Why was she feeling sad? Shouldn't she be happy that she didn't have to support the children any longer?

The morning before breakfast, two days later, Fay was mostly silent. She didn't react to any of Mike and Mika's ramblings that tried to pick a fight with her.

"Stop talking nonsense!" Fay put down two plates of cereal for the twins' breakfast that morning rudely. She herself only had a glass of milk. Their money was running low. She had to save it for at least these two days.

"Mommy's not eating?" Mike observed the way Fay greedily finished the glass of milk. He was holding his own glass of milk.

"I'm on a diet." Fay lied. To be honest, there was only enough cereal left for the two children.

"Mommy is already very thin. What diet?" Mika interjected cleverly. She pushed her glass of milk over. "Mommy seems to really like her milk. Just drink mine. Lately I don't like the brand of milk Mommy buys."

Fay glared in annoyance. Didn't like the milk she bought, huh? If she hadn't remembered that both of them needed adequate nutrition, she wouldn't have bought milk. She bought the cheap one. It didn't taste much different. But Mika complained that she didn't like it.

"Don't complain. Just drink it. If you don't drink milk, how can you grow fast? I can't wait to see you gone from my life."

"Mommy actually loves us, our Mommy always said so before. Mommy just doesn't want to admit it." Mika put on her sweetest face. Her dark curls fell smoothly around her adorable face.

"Don't be so confident. Your mommy just wants to cheer you up." Fay got up from the chair and placed the glass in the sink. She ignored the urge to pinch both of Mika's cheeks

"I don't think so. Our mommy is always right. Just like about daddy. Our mommy said we would meet him. We finally met him." Mika spoke between mouthfuls.

Daddy again. Daddy again. How proud they are! Fay felt annoyed at this.

"I hope when your daddy comes, I'm not at home. Just call me to let me know so I don't think you've been kidnapped."

"Mommy doesn't want to meet daddy?" Mika's eyes rounded. She couldn't believe Fay refused to meet their wonderful father. She was over the fact that Fay hated her father.

"No."

"Why? Daddy is very handsome. He's also very rich." Mika was still curious.

"Just don't want to!" Fay said curtly. Like she didn't know why she didn't like their father.

"Does Mommy have a boyfriend?" Mike, who had been listening, spoke up.

Eh? How could this kid ask him that?

"Still a kid. No need to meddle in adult matters." Fay didn't say that she had never been in a relationship. She had been too busy with herself.

"I wouldn't agree if daddy married someone else." Mika said suddenly. "I will only allow him to marry Mommy."

"I wouldn't agree either." Mike said. He always seemed to have more restraint than his sister.

Fay felt dizzy listening to him. At this rate, she wanted to get rid of them and never see them again. Cade Goldwin would definitely think the worst of her.

That's when there was a knock on the front door.

Everyone looked at each other. They rarely received guests. Mrs. William, who always looked after the twins when Fay was away at college and work, would call out when she knocked.

Fay got up from her seat and walked to the door. The two little heads behind her peeked through the kitchen door curiously.

Another knock.

Grumbling, Fay turned the door handle and pulled it open.

Two men in expensive suits stood in front of her. The taller and more handsome one stood slightly behind. He wasn't looking at Fay but at his surroundings.

"Miss Willmer?" The one in front spoke. He, Langdon, Cade Goldwin's assistant spoke.

"Right. What's the occasion?" Fay knitted her brows. She didn't recognize either of them. But she had a hunch that they had something to do with Audrey's children.

"This is Mr. Goldwin." Langdon told her the identity of the man who now stepped inside first.

Fay glanced unhappily at the man who had barged in unbidden.

Cade Goldwin, huh? Fay did not hide her annoyance. Her face took on a sour look.

"I am Langdon, Mr. Goldwin's assistant. You must already know our purpose for coming here." Langdon spoke very politely. He was a little surprised by this girl's reaction which clearly showed her dislike for her master. All this time, the girls of Axton city had adored Mr. Goldwin.

"So you came here to pick up the children. That's good. I thought you would be here sooner." Fay went inside without asking Langdon to come along.

But he followed her inside as well.

Cade Goldwin glanced around the small room. He had no intention of sitting on the sofa. Fay who saw Cade's cold and dismissive attitude sneered behind him as he passed by.

"Mike. Mika. Look who's here!" Fay called out towards the kitchen. She knew the boys had seen their father coming.

Pretending not to know, huh? You're so happy!

Fay suppressed the feeling of sadness that suddenly crept into her heart.
