Chapter 4. Fay's Imagination

"Cade, I—“Pricilla wanted to buy some time.

It had been a week since they had seen each other. Cade never even called her. Was he getting tired of her? They had only been in a relationship for a month. Pricilla felt anxious. She wasn't willing to break up so quickly. Her dream was the dream of all Axton girls, to become Mrs. Goldwin.

Cade ignored the girl. He continued his work that had been delayed. Until later, because of his neglect, Pricilla helplessly left his office. Only then did Cade throw the sheet of documents in his hand onto the table.

To him, Pricilla was just a tool. He used her as his lover to upset the Goldwin mistress. Pricilla was not the type of daughter-in-law his mother wanted, Cade knew.

But Cade had a sudden headache when his mother urged him to marry Pricilla.

'Pricilla or any other girl. I don't care.' That was the ultimatum from the stubborn woman who had given birth to Cade.

"Don't talk nonsense!" said Fay after she stopped coughing. Her face was red. Red from coughing. Red from the twins' ridiculous idea to set her up with Cade Goldwin.

Cade was the sky. Fay was the earth. On which side could they meet? But that's not the problem. Fay hates any man who has made Audrey suffer. Even if it's a Goldwin.

In front of him, Mike and Mika were shrinking their faces with the ends of their left and right sleeves alternately. Their faces were wet from being splashed with water. Both of them curled their lips.

“Our mommy said you could replace her. So we thought only you could be our mom.” Mike insisted on his idea after wiping his face.

“And your daddy will go berserk if he hears about it. I hope he doesn’t think that I’ve used you guys to become Mrs. Goldwin.” A bad feeling briefly entered Fay’s mind.

What if these two stubborn kids were desperate to set her up? Cade Goldwin would have a bad opinion of her. But what did Fay care about that bastard’s views? She promised to get as far away from the two kids as possible if their father decided to come and get them.

“We’ll convince daddy that mommy is the best.”

Mika’s words instantly made Fay want to vomit. This child was praising her? Even though all this time it was clear that Fay did not hide her feelings of dislike.

Fay wanted to say something like, there are many other girls who deserve to be their mommy someday. But then she felt it was useless to argue with them. There would be no end to it.

"Okay. The talk about daddy is over. I hope what you said is true. So I can go to college and work in peace without having to think that two kids are waiting for me to feed them at home." Fay said as she silently watched the two children's expressions and was surprised to find them smiling annoyingly.

Why couldn't her words offend these two children? Were their hearts made of stone?

"Mommy, if daddy picks us up, you have to stay with us too. We won't let you be alone here. We know how lonely it feels to be left behind." Mika walked over to Fay and climbed onto the sofa and hugged her.

Fay felt like crying. She didn't know whether to be moved or angry by this beautiful girl's words.

Fay had always lived alone. Since her father, mother and sister had an accident five years ago. Then none of the relatives wanted to extend their hands to provide shelter. It was Audrey, someone Fay didn't know, who offered the warmth of a sister. Then when Fay was strong enough to stand on her own, she went to Axton to work and continue her education.

"I want to take a shower. It's so hot." Fay reasoned to avoid Mika's embrace any longer. She got up from her seat and walked towards the door.

Today was Mike and Mika's first day living with Fay. Having just arrived in Axton the two of them were already urgently going to the mall.

So that's why they wanted to go so badly, to meet their father, Fay thought still a little incredulous. How could a kid that age be so good at keeping secrets and surfing the internet to investigate a Cade Goldwin?

Actually, Fay wasn't too surprised. Although not yet in school, both of them were already good at reading. Their comprehension was also very good, exceeding that of other children their age. Sometimes their behavior could be very mysterious. And their above-average intelligence made Fay's imagination go everywhere.

She just felt that these two children were extraordinary. Although there was no evidence in that direction, their movements over the past two days looked suspicious. Where was the mischief she had seen when their mother was around?

Then a silly idea flashed through the girl's head. She reached the door of the room, but then turned to face the two.

"Are you guys some kind of secret agents?"

The twins paused and looked at each other, then giggled together.

"No?" Fay was disappointed. Wouldn't it be amazing if it were true?

"Or the genius CEO behind a computer company?" Fay had read in a novel about a boy who was actually very rich because of his genius. Wasn't their father Cade Goldwin? That would sound plausible.

This time Mike and Mika burst out laughing while holding their stomachs. Fay who saw it made a frown.
