Chapter 6. One Million Dollar Compensation.

There was movement from inside the kitchen. Then Mike and Mika were seen stepping outside slowly.

"Say hello to your daddy," Fay said as she walked into the room. "I'll pack your things."

Mike looked at Fay who had disappeared behind the door. Her expression was complicated.

"Hello, Daddy. You're finally here." Mika greeted first while giving her best smile.

Mike remained silent. The boy seemed to be busy thinking.

Cade felt mesmerized for a moment. He hadn't realized how beautiful and cute this girl was before.

The great man of Axton lowered his body, bowing to Mika who was closer than his reach. His hand moved to touch the dark curls.

This felt magical. Suddenly he was a father of twins. Without a test, he wouldn't argue that the blood flowing through them was his. Instead, he was worried that they were not related at all.

"Hello, dear. How are you? It's good to see you again. This time Daddy promises we won't be separated again." Cade's previously cold demeanor had melted away. He rarely showed warmth to anyone.

"Are you here to pick us up?" Mike suddenly interrupted.

Cade lifted his gaze from Mika. He saw a reflection of his childhood self in Mike.

"Of course. Daddy's going to make up for all the times you guys went without him. From now on whatever you want Daddy will give you."

"Then Mommy should come with us too. We won't leave Mommy here alone." Mike said his wish.

By then Fay had returned from the room. She brought with her a big bag of clothes and some small things that belonged to Audrey.

"I can't come with you guys. You've given me enough headaches. I think your father should see for himself how troublesome it is to take care of two kids who like to throw tantrums." Fay said dispassionately. She ignored Cade's displeased look.

"What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that? Don't you think I want to come with you guys to your house!" Fay glared back at Cade fiercely. She was pouring out all her hatred on a strange man who had only existed in her imagination all this time. That man was now materializing in front of her.

Mike and Mika looked at each other and became agitated. Their mommy had beaten the drums of war. But Mommy had chosen the wrong enemy. After all, that man was their father.

"Miss Willmer, I didn't think I would take you along either. So you don't have to worry. I'll soon take my children away from this disgusting place and you won't see us again forever—“

"If not for this disgusting place, your children would be starving and freezing out there. Maybe someone will sell them and you will never know that your depraved deeds six years ago have caused two more victims." Fay replied quickly.

Yes, if it wasn't for this shitty place. You should be grateful. So, don't be so arrogant in front of me!

Cade felt that someone had slapped him very hard. This girl, why is her mouth so sharp? Is it because she feels that she has been very meritorious in accommodating his children? But what Cade saw was not a desire for reward. This girl's eyes were filled with hatred for him.

"I don't know why Miss Willmer is bringing up matters that have already passed. But I don't mind compensating you if you feel aggrieved. I will pay all the expenses you incurred while taking care of my children." Cade tried to restrain himself from saying anything more cruel. He owed this young woman a favor after all.

"Save your money, Mr. Goldwin. You think you can pay for all the time I spent with them. The money I spent on them was not much. But the fatigue and trouble I put them through will never be repaid by you."

That was an exaggeration. Mike and Mika also knew that they mostly did it themselves if Fay was out. They could tidy the house, put the clothes in the washing machine and sometimes prepare lunch themselves. Mrs. William only visited occasionally.

The two boys just grimaced at Fay's long sentence and wanted to corner their father.

"Why not?" Cade smiled wickedly. "In this world, there's nothing I can't buy."

Fay laughed mockingly. She had expected him to say that. Just like in the movies.

"One million dollars," Cade said coldly.

"Huh?!" Fay's eyes widened. "What--what do you mean?"

"I'll pay you one million dollars in compensation. So stop bringing up everything you did for my kids."

Fay gulped. That was a huge amount.

The two children, Mike and Mika saw how dazed Fay was.

"Deal!" said Fay suddenly startling the two kids.

Mommy sucks! Mike and Mika grumbled to themselves. If Mommy was smarter, Mommy would get all of Daddy's money by becoming Daddy's wife.

There was a mocking smile on Cade's face.  Money was indeed the most powerful way to conquer hard-hearted people. This girl in front of him was no exception.

"I want the check now." Fay tossed a large bag near Cade's feet and held out her empty hand.

"Langdon, make out the check," Cade ordered his assistant.

The man named Langdon took out a checkbook from under his coat and started writing. He tore off a sheet and handed it to Fay.

She took it and tilted her face, looking at the neat writing on the sheet. It was a million dollars!

Suddenly Fay held up the check in front of Cade's face. Smiling sweetly, she tore off the sheet containing the number one million dollars.
